I am back in the saddle today. Now I have a BUNCH to catch up on.

Jules, that Granola sounds GREAT. I may have to make a batch this weekend.

Ann, How is the boy liking Football today? Good job on getting the kayak you need. I am glad the shop is working with you. But then, with a customer like you, I would get you what you want, too!

Dee, a neighbor in Florida (when I was a kid) was a really neat old man. He built all sorts of things. He had a tree house that he built as his hang out place, with windows and electricity and everything. He built one of those boats with a clear plastic bottom. He taught me to sail in it but I spent most of my time looking at all the neat creatures in the water!. You all build them and we can race each other in the lake here.

Kendra. How is your son? I HATE it that your back and hip are still hurting. Hopefully the MRI will show something fixable. My hubbie is going through the same thing with his foot. Constant pain and no running. He is really bummed. He is going to have to defer from the MCM and he HATES giving up. He, too has an MRI scheduled. We need everyone fixed up and pain free!

Good morning Robin!

Believe me, when I walk into a store and drop a grand for the second time in just over a month, you better make me happy.

I was worried about the boy yesterday. Keri and I were sitting up on a hill above the practice field, their water is up there, it's shady. They had been doing conditioning for an hour. He came up for a water break and told me he couldn't do it anymore. He didn't want to quit, but he just couldn't do it. I told him to hang in there, the worst for the day was over and they were going to work on positions and plays now. I called his dad, and he went and picked him up after practice, and they had a talk. When they got home he told me he would stick with it.

I am a little bit worried about him because he isn't eating. After practice last night he had some water, but that was it. He ate nothing last night. He can't keep that up.

High powered (high protein and carb) snacks during the day may be able to help getting the nutrition in. Get some Heed or other long workout recovery and put it in the Gatorade or what ever they are using to hydrate. That will help get the protein back in after a long work out like that. His body hasn't had any long term training and BAM there he is doing long, intense, hot workouts.

After practice he only wants water. He had Gatorade on Monday, and Powerade yesterday, and both times he got sick in the stomach. I think it's because he gulped it down immediately instead of ingesting it slowly. I did tell him this morning that I wanted him eating a banana or 2 today, and he could drink the GA or PA during the day if he didn't want to drink it after practice. He isn't supposed to eat PB because of his braces, but I'm throwing that out the window. He likes PB and molassas, I think I'm going to make him a sandwich before he goes to practice. If he eats it early, and they're watching game films before they start practice, he should be good. If he doesn't want that I'm going to give him some sports beans, or Gu chomps.

that is not right, Anne. I dont want to add any red flags but he should be ravished and wanting to eat everything in sight!?! heat and long workouts will play tricks with your head ~ does he generally have a good appetitie? was going to tell you to feed him before practice ~ but not if he is doing sprints ~ we all know where that food will end up ~ wonder if it is just nerves!?! that is the only thing that seems to keep me from eating

He's a 12 year old boy, generally he eats like a horse. He did drink a big bottle of Gatorade this morning, ate 2 bananas today, and had some apples w/peanut butter at lunch. We are going to dinner tonight, and while it's OUR wedding anniversary I asked him where he would like to go. He said he could eat at TGIFriday's so I think that's where we'll go. Location doesn't matter to me as long as he eats.

oh how I wish I lived closer to you so we could surprise you...and what a nice mom to let them choose but its also no fun to take them to a place they have no interest in going or eating at...you one smart mama ~ HAPPY ANNIVERSARY ANNE ~ have fun tonight!

I wish you lived closer, too. I need someone to hang out with.

me too! haha so where is half way between us?

Forget about half way in between, let's go somewhere tropical.

tropical is good!!! my friend has a holiday house in Venice, Italy ~ she is there now...should we go join her????

Good morning Ghoulies!

I think I did well last night. We went to TGIFriday's. I did have a bacon cheese burger, but I only ate a few fries, less than 1/3 of what was on my plate. They usually have some sort of seasoning on, they did not, so I could pass them up. The boy ate a bacon cheeseburger, too, made me feel better since he was eating. He actually came home from practice last night in a good mood. They didn't do as much conditioning. They started working on different plays and what positions the kids are going to play. Can't say guys, there are 2 girls on the team. Looks like Caleb is going to be a Guard, and a Defensive End. He's cool with that.

The boy leaves today to go on a big fishing trip. I'm a little anxious about it. This is his first big trip without a parent. He's going with my dad, and my brother will be there, but neither of them are known for being overly responsible. I think he'll be fine though. Right?

good job on the dinner Anne....
glad the boy is eating and nice that he was in a good mood...sure it doesnt have to do with one of those gals being on the team??? haha
your son will be fine...even though I know neither of the chaperones! just trust what you have poured into him and give him a short but sweet pep talk about water and fire safety ~ and enjoy your one on one time with your daughter! sure she is looking forward to it!

I'll be back in a bit. The boy and I are going to go do some football conditioning. After that I'm taking the kids into the college and we will have about an hour to swim, then I need to drop him off at my dads. I think the girl and I are going to take the pups to the lake today and let them play in the water. Wynn will love it, Milo not as much, but he'll be fine.

I'll be back this afternoon. Have a slam dunk day Ghoulies!

wow ~ you are one busy gal, Anne! have fun with your dogs/daughter! if need a water dog ~ you can take my Boston Terrier Kahuna with you ~ you can not get him out of the water! where as the dog you would think would be the swimmer Cali who is a lab ~ ~will only swim if I swim

Well hello there.

It's been a fun, but tiring day. The boy and I WORKED for about 40 minutes this morning. We ran a lap around the football field to warm up. After that it was short sprints, a drill where we had cones set up in a 10yrd square, we sprinted up, shuffled sideways, ran backwards, then shuffled the other side, then started all over again. Did that 10 times, then we changed the first move to a bear crawl, and we did that way 5 times. Next we did some drills up a hill that is about this steel / and 12-15 feet high depending on where you were lined up on it. We did several sprints up it, then bear crawls, then ran up backwards, then sideways. After that was a few 100 yard sprints. I hurt in places I didn't even know I had. I worked as hard as I could, and I pushed him, there was no lolly-gagging.

After that we came home and picked up Keri and the pups, he said he wanted to go to the lake with us. We took them up and Wynn, my golden lab, jumped right in, Milo, my Great Dane, just ran around. He looked like he wanted to get in. When Caleb took the kayak out he was standing on the edge whining and looking like he wanted to jump into the kayak.

At one point Wynn ran down from us a few yards and jumped in. I could tell the way she want under when she jumped that it was deep. It wasn't deep right in front of us. Milo jumped in after her. She swam away, he doesn't swim. He was able to grab the edge, but he couldn't get out. We tried to lure him down to where it was shallower but he wouldn't move. Fortunately I still had workout clothes on, and they were wicking fabric. I waded in, and was almost chest deep, to help him get out. It was all mud underneath. Caleb stayed by me with the kayak and I held on to a handle with one hand, and pushed on Milo's butt while he crawled out with the other. Good times.

Keri and I are home now, need to mow soon, the boy is heading north. I hope they catch a lot of salmon on their trip. The leader of the trip called up to the boat captain a few days ago and he said the salmon are running and they're catching a lot. I hope our guys catch some.

Hi strangers!

Sounds like everyone is doing well--Ann, I know that your boy will be fine. You have been raising him right, and he is a good kid. Kendra--hooray for internet connections! Dee--hi! Jules--hi! Robin--hi!

LOL. Guess I'm not really very talkative lately. I did run once this week, though. And did a bunch of yardwork tonight. Our valley is super smokey. Do you guys remember the picture I posted a year or so ago of the view of the mountains on my run? Well, you can't even see across the valley now. The sun has been red every morning when it rises. It's the strangest feeling. And I don't really like to go out and run in it, either. Hopefully the winds will shift or the fires across the northwest US will be out soon.

Amy, I hope that things get better out there. Smoke is not fun any time, even without running. I don't know if it's just a sign of getting older, but the weather and nature seems robe getting crazier each year.
