Extreme Veteran 1329 Wausau WI | Subject: RE: 30 runs in 30 days - who's with us? navbtcret - 2012-10-20 12:04 PM Ran a marathon this morning, not sure how many days in row I am but somewhere around 332 or so. I finished in 3:35 and some change good enough for 32nd overall finisher but only good enough for 7th in my age group of 50-59 year old men. I thought turning 50 this year I might have a chance on placing in a race, I guess not, those 50 plus year old are as fast as the 40-49 year olds. Still ahpping with the results though. I know there were 196 singed up for the full, it was the Monster Mash marathon in Dover, Delaware and the first mile was around the NASCAR track which was really cool.
Oh yeah the distance today was 26.28 miles I ran good tangents which is easy to do in a small race like this. Great job!

Darkness is coming quicker now which stinks but running the trails with the nocturnal animals getting out of bed was fun. I've got a trail nearby in the river bottom that rings around a cut corn field......this time of year there are sometimes so many deer running across the trail into the corn, from the woods, it's crazy. I've watched literally hundreds of deer on each run, as the evenings get shorter, running around that cornfield. |

Nice Job on the half.

Pro 4824 Houston | Subject: RE: 30 runs in 30 days - who's with us? I didn't start until October 1 but decided to make this month Runtober and it is going great! Not running lots of distance but running every day and just noticed last night I have more mileage than my husband training for IMFL! Not too much biking and zero swimming but that is OK by me. I have a 10K Saturday and am hoping for a PR. |

39 runs in 38 days but the streak ends tonight I'm just exhausted and run down (ha, run down) and my body says rest. |

Pro 15655 | Subject: RE: 30 runs in 30 days - who's with us? Nice job Trishie! #44 for me today....finally got the pacing right on a "long run" and did 5 miles at 9:54 pace...I know I had it right because I wanted to just keep running. Best run of my streak. The other thing that happened this evening, after 44 runs, is that I learned something about my running and engaging my core. My achilles tendon from my PF problem foot started to ache a bit right at mile 4. I noticed that my stride had become really relaxed....almost "slouchy". What I did can best be described as the same thing you do when you adjust and "sit up straight" in your chair. I'm sure what really happened is that I got my core back engaged in my run.....it hadn't really become disengaged on purpose....it just happened. I think after running for 44 straight days it was easier for me to recognize. I "sat up" and engaged my core....it felt like I was running "taller" and within 1/4 the pain was gone and I was running better than I had the entire run. Taking no break from running is helping me be a better runner....no doubt in my mind. Edited by Left Brain 2012-10-23 10:54 PM |

Regular 123 Toronto, ON | Subject: RE: 30 runs in 30 days - who's with us? Left Brain, your comments about "engaging your core" are enlightening. I have had similar moments concerning my posture. Tonight, 7/7, I decided (foolishly, I know, but it's been bugging me) to do a 5K time trial. For the past five months I'd been (foolishly, again) training for Toronto's waterfront marathon on a fairly low-mileage plan (low mileage because I'm a new runner). My training paces were based off a 27-minute 5K race in early May. Did the marathon training, such as it was, lead to 5k improvement? So after a bit of warm-up I ran my not hilly, not quite flat standard 5k around my neighbourhood, thinking I could pull off a 25 minute loop. At the end of the run, Garmin said to me: 24:30. I was really happy about that for a few minutes, until I went to McMillan's calculator to find out my new paces. "Easy" running has sped up by almost 1 minute/mile, from [9:53 to 10:47] down to [9:01 to 10:00]. There's almost no overlap between my old "easy" and my new "easy"! The new training paces are a bit intimidating and I'm thinking I'll need to ease into them, starting from the slow end. Edited by fishwallop 2012-10-23 11:11 PM |

I'm no running expert.....just trying to learn as I go. I was very fast for a mile as a kid (a long time ago)....but learning to really be a decent distance runner has always been a challenge for a guy with a miler's heart and mind. (always keep trying to run faster!!!) Like I said, running every day seems to teach me things I didn't get from running and resting. I listen to, and feel, my body much more than when it was just about "oh, time for rest". So far the experience has been very positive. I may just go until it ends.....whenever that is. Elite 4435 | Subject: RE: 30 runs in 30 days - who's with us? Left Brain - 2012-10-24 1:37 PM - same when I get the calf pain - which I always do I notice I'm kind of slapping my feet, not intentionally, just lazy. so I concentrate on picking my feet up - trying to make less noise when I run! It helps and it does seem to happen for me around 3km.
