I just got back from my swim...I had picked a workout from the book last night but managed to leav the book on my kitchen table today so I made up my own workout and did a lot of drills to get back to basics correcting "issues".  I wanted the main set to be 20x100 alternating easy/hard but knew once I got into it that just wasn't going to happen today so I settled for a set of 10 x100.  I think the focus we've been working on has  changed my stroke enough that I REALLY feel it in the shoulders differently (front part more than the back)  Figured I'd better go short to avoid injury

Sweet Andrew!!!

Don't you love going fast??

I can't get enough of it.

So that I can go fast in February, I was in the weight room today, and swam for an hour!
We're going to be fast people next season!!!

Oh yeah, I love going fast! It's a fantastic feeling.

Sounds like you have the swim down pretty good! I still have a little over a month before my pool opens up again so I can start learning how to swim. It is a huge weakness for me right now, but I will be able to get almost 4 months of work in before my race so I think I will be ok. I am really excited about being a fast person next year!!!

WTG Andrew!! Congats on the PR. That's awesome!

I'm not sure if I'll get a chance to check in again before I leave on the cruise tomorrow. I have a ton of packing to finish up today plus I want to hit the gym.

If I don't get a chance to check in, I just wanted to remind everyone to update the team spreadsheet in Google Docs by tomorrow night. Dee will pull the data on Monday. All information for this week will need to be entered in the Week 3 column.

I hope you all have a great week next week! My cruising buddy and I have already made a pact to get up every morning and run the deck on the ship, so I'll definitely still be getting in my workouts while I'm gone. See you all when I get back.

Go Corps!!!

Thanks, Judi! This is my first cruise, but I'm sure we'll have a great time.

I went out this morning and got in a 1.9 mile walk. That's what I needed to complete the run/walk portion of my goal for the challenge. I'll get in my final swim and strength training sessions on the cruise.

I only say that because I remember signing up two years ago and went about 115km. Since exams are this month, I might either do super well or not well at all.

Hi everyone. I've been taking some much needed time away....from everything. I've been spending quality time with DH and staying off my foot as much as possible. I've haven't been completely sedentary though. I've been cleaning my much neglected abode and yesterday went out and bought 1/3 of our Christmas. We bought a brand new adult dining room suite. Not one that's kid friendly, etc. Next on our list is a bedroom suite and flatscreen TV. It's fun being an adult only household! LOL

Melissa probably doesn't know this, but official times were finally all sorted and posted for our race, and I've got a huge adjustment to make. I had myself down as finishing at 55:20 when the official time is 46:36. Estatic happydancing followed up by "wow, that'll be hard to beat!"

Thank you to all of your for your support and comments and inspires whie I prepared myself (to cross to the dark side, as Yanti said). I won't way it was all fun and games, but you have no idea what an accomplishment this was for me. Somewhere along the line I lost part of myself and ran into someone I want to be. Hugs and happy holidays to you all.

Next week, in an effort to stay off my foot some more, DH and I are planning on swimming every evening after work and I'll hit the elliptical beforehand which waiting on him to show up (I get off work earlier than he does). I hope the elliptical will count toward my running goals...I'm counting it as such, anyway.

Morning all. Hope you had a happy thanksgiving weekend and didn't overdose on turkey. Sounds like most of you have been out running and swimming and generally being superstars!

I've been crazy busy at work and had a bit of a motivation dip after a week of illness, but if I run every day this week I will make my training goal for the challenge. I'm not going to manage to get out on the bike twice though - but I've got back in the pool instead, so I figure that counts as a moral victory for me, even if not for the challenge.

You guys, as always, are a huge inspiration and great "company" on my morning runs.

It's really wonderful to hear the good news from everyone. Greg, congrats on your pool PR (and a great meet)! Judi, thanks for posting your progress, as always. Terri--what an incredible first-race time! WOW! Gill--way to bounce back after being ill, with a small baby to take care of at the same time.  Dee, glad you checked in. Nice to "see" you again. Andrew--congrats on reaching your run goal--you're a speed demon!

EVERYONE--remember to log in to the Google spreadsheet (instructions were sent to your BT inbox, ask again if you need them) to update your challenge results for the week. This week ending the challenge will be a short week.

Most of all, everyone, good work on being a part of the challenge and putting hard work in, no matter how it turned out. You guys are great!!!

Thanks Yanti

I just updated my portion of the spreadsheet. while I am lacking in several areas, I did increase the # of swims. That'll happen again this week.

Today's plan is elliptical and swim after work.

Have a great day all.

Hi everyone! Hope all of you here in the US had a nice Thanksgiving.

Sorry I've been MIA - last week was crazy with travel for work and then the holiday. I finally updated the spreadsheet - I'm well over 100% for my swim goal already - yay! And while I didn't fully "banish ITBS" this month, I DID schedule the surgery that WILL do that, so I consider that goal to be completed as well, since I did all I could do to get rid of it before going the surgery route.

Keep up the great work, everyone! 4 days left - can you believe November's almost over already???

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.  I am so sorry I haven't been checking in (or logging on to the spread sheet).  This is just a nutty time of year.  I have done well with my racquetball goal, but am majorly lacking in the rest.  I'll be able to get in a little more time in the gym and (hopefully) the pool, and who knows, maybe even a run.

Unfortunately I don't see thing easing up in December.  I've got to figure out a way to get in a few more workout!!!!

November Challenge - Week 3 Results

We're into the FINAL WEEK of the challenge now! November is now 83.3% completed. Are you meeting your goals?

Even though we're organized into teams, your goals for the November Challenge are really INDIVIDUAL ones. Therefore, I'm listing the results by INDIVIDUALS this week. That way, everyone will know exactly where they stand.

There's a good chance that I missed someone, so if you're supposed to be on a list but aren't -- well, it wasn't intentional. (My eyes started to cross after awhile.) If your name is missing, please DO brag about your progress with your teammates, so you can get the congratulations that you deserve.

Also, December is SWIM CHALLENGE month! Go here to read about it:

Happy, um, Monday? Just four more days until the weekend! (Why are you throwing things at me?)

Been wondering what all the teams have been discussing? Here's an update!

Moscateers:
Saling4 has been drawing up plans to build a pool for Dee, and a swim-up-bar for Kristen. Thanks Saling - you're the greatest! Kristen's dryer has been doubling as a UFO. (Or perhaps a UFO has been doubling as her dryer?) Comet_The_Dog has a feeling that his wife wouldn't appreciate a new dryer for Christmas.

Vigilantes:
Rmaldon240 stayed home to watch the Thanksgiving Day parade on TV while eating pie, ice cream and cookies. Irongirl39 walked enough to burn off some broccoli calories. Fielding is in Malibu interviewing people affected by the fires. ScotinSeattle won't reveal the contents of a package sent to her, but we know it contained lots of chocolate! (Good thing is wasn't hot outside.)

Turkey Terrors:
TriChica is looking for advice on fixing an unhappy rotator cuff. Gygyhawk went to the beach, while Artemis stayed home to cook and watch TV. Nhmorgan met all his November goals, and decided this merited some Thanksgiving gluttony.

5forFighting:
Rzzqb8 tried to run, but discovered she'd brought two right-footed shoes! (Maybe she should have read the Turkey Terrors recent thread about barefoot running!) In an ironic twist, Rzzqb8 announced last week that the only way she could meet her weightloss goal was to come down with a stomach virus. Take a guess what happened to her this week. Rkreuser had an unfortunate run-in with some gym equipment.

Twisnibbins:
During the last 26 days, this team (and its visitors) have written more than 8263 posts. Yes, you read that correctly. The only way to keep up with this team is to read a separate thread, "The Chronicles of Twisnibbins, aka Nibbins Notes" in which Team Captain Beth writes thread summaries. Hector did his first Tri, and was rewarded with pics. Kendra has learned how to make her phone vibrate. And Max showed off his nail polish collection.

Wild Hippos:
Cat went to the dentist, and wasn't happy about it. To make it worse, she had to cancel her physio and massage appointments, so she didn't get to see many hot guys. However, Reno8 offered to send her a picture for her new photo frame. Baowolf went to see Beowulf, and wasn't impressed. Owl_Girl will be getting married in January, but still plans on participating in the December Swim Challenge. AmbulanceDriver had a vacation in North Carolina, and just signed up for her first Tri.

Hard Core Tri Corps:
Team Captain BunnyB is taking a cruise vacation! SoFreshSoClean swam over 5500km in one day. He now needs to decide if he wants to do well in the December Swim Challenge or on his exams. MrsUSMC has purchased a few adult-only items. (No, not what you think. Or if it is, she didn't tell us!) Zipp1 commented on the team's post count for the day, and wondered if Turkey-coma had ended.

Dealing with an injury or illness?

Several people have requested dropping out of the Challenge due to unexpected circumstances, such as injuries or illness.

Here is an alternative for you to consider:

1) Take the number of days that you DID participate. Divide that number by 30. (There are 30 days in November.)
2) Revise your goal to that percentage.

For example:
"Jane" originally set a goal of 100 miles of biking. She was injured after 20 days, and had to stop biking.

1) (20 days) divided by 30 = 0.67
2) (100 min) times 0.67 = 67 minutes

Jane revises her goal to 67 min. Her progress for the month will be compared to this revised number.

If you need to revise your goals due to illness or injury, you may do this. If you want help calculating/revising your numbers, you can PM me or your Team Captain.

Awesome job!!!! That is a huge difference!

Greg, your swims blow my mind. I can't even compehend how you are able to swim, that fast and far!!!

On an unrelated note, I have a question. while i was home for thanksgiving i was able to steal my parents bike trainer. woo-hoo! i am actually pn it right now, which makes typing very slow and difficult!!! My question is, howq do I count this towards my challenge seeing as I'm not actually getting any miles?

take your speed for an hour's bike on the road at moderate pace (for me, I'd be about 26km), and add or subtract depending on how much harder you worked.

There are ways to get a mileage reading on your trainer. If you can do this, I suggest you write it down in your daily log, take the piece of paper and use it to line the bottom of your birdcage - it's utterly useless.

And those swims happen after 2 months of hard training recently, and 12 years of even harder training in my youth (I still can't believe I used to go 16 hours a week).
