Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Make sure you get a good bike fit after you get the aerobars. It will make all the difference in the world. BTW..I LOVE my Podium Quest Hydration Aero Bottle. It has two compartments that allow me to have my energy drink and water all up front. I don't even carry a bottle below anymore. This if VERY helpful when your uncoordinated like me. Had the worst swim of my life today at the lake in probably the worst conditions that I have ever been stupid enough to get out in. I definitely won't be skimping on anymore strength training sessions and I'm going to start doing my rubber band exercises for my arms. I did a mile and feel like a did three...6 hours later. I'm glad I did it and know I need to work on relaxing in rough water. With today's time I would barely make the cutoff on the IM. Looks like I have work to do. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sorry for my absence, it was nutty last week, but I managed to get all the workouts in. And gain wt over the weekend, again. This time it was a prolonged encounter with a jar of extra crunchy peanutbutter. Man, it was good... |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() "My" pool is closed til fall, they had some major plumbing problems. My other options are not as economical or convenient. Looking forward to summer and the beaches and my complex pool opening. Good luck as your first tri approaches. and everyone else who has one soon. I think the first possible Tri is the middle of May. July and August have a fair number of events.
This year is interesting, I have focusing on building a base for so long, picking up the intensity is a "new" concept for me. That is work, and leaves a different type of fatigue. I want to get faster and believe I can take another 15-20 minutes off HIM time in the next couple of years. I was reviewing bike effort pacing in Going Long, I think somewhere I forgot to pick up the effort over the last half and kept my HR in upper zone 1. OOPS |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Here I am again- stuck in March- it is such a bad month to live in the Adirondack Mountains=- and the only reason I think it's worse than April is I usually escape for half of April!!!! It was 39 and raining when I woke up and went to gym, 33 and snowing on the way home from gym and now it is dark and gloomy with a winter storm warning for tonight into tomorrow- the kind they like to call "mixed bag"-- snow, sleet and freezing rain....YUCK. |

The big D was 40 and pouring rain yesterday and now ice/sleet nonsense. Damp cold is the worst! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() k_hase - 2008-03-04 6:21 AM Damp cold is the worst! That is for sure. Our air is so dry that it's pretty much impossible for it to rain from Nov-Mar. Even in the summer it can be 70 degrees and a rain shower falling into dry air will evaporate cooling the air low enough for the rain to turn to snow/graupel. When it's done the sun will warm the temps back to 70 almost instantly. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() never mind, after researching, I'm quite sure I've been "graupeled" on. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Busy week- and the eating has not been stellar. Also have not been on the ab and pushup regemin like I should be. It's a rest week for me- my first since starting the 20 week program- I KNOW I need it, but I'm not loving it. Bet that will change as my training goes on...... I cannot WAIT to run outside. Do you suppose it will ever be spring again here? Edited by aquinn 2008-03-04 8:42 PM |

I know last year, it got to the point where I was looking forward to recovery weeks 3 or 4 days ahead of time. BTW, I bet it will be spring there March 21st |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm trying out the Rich Edit features. Okay, so that's how it works....... I was able to talk the school into replacing all of the ceiling tiles in my building. They are all bowed and musty and moldy looking. Come on, people, just because we're working overseas doesn't mean we don't want to work under American standards, for crying out loud. I just feel that the space above the tiles and below the roof has got to be a haven for all sorts of gross stuff; molds, mildews, bacterias, and who knows what. I've never been sick, so many times, until I moved into this armpit of a building two years ago............. I seem to have gotten over this last 'thing' pretty quickly, and am ready to rev it up.....yet again......I can now only swim and bike due to my ongoing foot problem, but that's okay because those are the areas I really need to work hard on for now anyway. I also need to focus on losing more weight so that when I start up running again, my feet aren't being abused by forty pounds more than they were designed for. Sounds like evryone else is hanging tough and knocking out those workouts. Good job, MimiRs. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Decent swim (for me) this morning. Finally strung together 1600 so I know I won't die in a couple weeks for my Oly. Trying to figure out how to juggle the rest of the week and rearrange things to match with life. Well I better get to work. Hope everyone has a good one. K |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Spring was here on monday, now we have 9 inches of snow. I'm ready, really ready. Bob-do you have science teachers (chemistry specifically) in your building? They might have mold kits or something you can attempt to grow mold on. We had students do this as a science experiement in one of my buildings, they do something to a petri dish and then stuck the dish in the suspect locations to see what would grow. It would prove your point and totally be cross curricular!! (I'm a huge dork) |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Just wanted to mention that I have noticed how everyone has picked up the training (even poor Bob who is struggling with sickness As the months go on, remember, we are adults who have lives. Triathlon is a lifestyle, but maybe not our families' lifestyle. It should ENHANCE your life, not detract from it....be consistent, but keep the joy in it...celebrate every workout either as a victory or learning opportunity! GO TEAM |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Kim, that is a totally hot, CSI-cool-nerdy Sara type of thing, and I imagine we'd get some serious stuff growing within minutes!! I was actually just Googling "mold allergy symptoms" and I have them all -- it's just so gross to me. I think I need to do a couple daily Lysol sprays around the room.........hope that'll help!! My mom (B'ham Hills area) complains about how miserable she is every winter ... and yet she continues to live there. She's got a brother in Lansing and a sister in Ohio...otherwise I think she'd bolt for the desert southwest in a heartbeat!! |

Mimi, I'm game. I really need to sit down this weekend and re-evaluate what I can do since I need to avoid running for awhile...........I need to modify my HIM plan so that it only incorporates swimming and cycling........and then things like the elliptical, rower, etc...........but once I figure out what to do with myself, I'd love the challenge, and to hell with my sick- self!! |
