Just wanted to tell everyone that I am leaving the group.  Want to join a group that members actual write race reports!

Oh, Billy. Stop your poutin'. I bet they are just sleeping it off
You'd never leave us, you'd miss us too much. What other group would give you a plausible cause for posting pics of yourself on your motorcylce with GUNS? ....AND threatening to come take care of some nasty neighbors (who is back mooching off of mom and dad, so your services *may* be needed afterall)???? You'd miss us all too much, so don't even bluff!

Hey Billy - see ya!! Enjoy the sister-dating, roadkill-eating, NASCAR-fanatic group that might have you. Seriously, we are the best it's gonna get so buck up, rub dirt in it, and be patient. Smile.

Hey Team LRR!

Ran my second to last triathlon for this season today. Race report is here:

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=267905

Finished 3/17 in my AG and 20/219 OA.  I was able to retake the season points lead and with 1 race left need to secure a 3rd place or better to ensure the win.

Gotta get in the pool everyday this week and pray I find some balance

Anyways take care and have fun!

Glenn

wow awesome Glen!

My very first tri ever is 5 days away and I"m worried about the swim. Its only 700 yards but for me thats long. I'll be in the pool swimming 1000 yards tonight and one more time before sunday....hoping not to drown

nerves are kicking in with each second passing..

on a side note I tried to purchase a certain BOOK on my kindle but it said it wasnt available until the 15th :/

You will denervify (how do you like that word?) once the swim starts.  You will probably be faster than you ever have for that distance as well.  Do well!  I will think about you in my HIM in Branson if you think about me.

Good luck!

Amy, can't remember how to post the picture.

Pace, the most difficult portion of the swim for me is the mental aspect.  No matter how much I train the OWS is more of a mental rather than physical test.  Not sure if Billy noticed but I was pretty freaked out at the B2B IM swim.  I was so close to handing my chip to the other team swimmer and say "meet you at the bike".  Instead I chose to face my fear, that's what you are doing.  Passing this test is probably more important than any other aspects of your first Tri.  We know you can do it, make us proud.

ok so last night I put myself to the test on the swim as best I could. Go all my gear on, swim cap, goggles, etc. Jumped in. Gave myself 30 seconds to get past the cold water shock and started swimming.

my goggles leaked for the first 200 yards or so (I purposely stopped in the middle of the pool to tread water while adjusting) by 250 yards in, the goggles are solid and i'm cruising. My goal is to NOT STOP AND REST....and if I must i stop in the middle of the pool and tread water/float/whatever.

long story not so long, I made it 700 yards in 18 minutes (previously took me 27 minutes with a lot of stopping). Felt surprisingly good and after a brief moment of rejoicing I continued to swim 300 more yards.

I want to do this one more time before sunday but feelin good about it now!

on a side note, when i was done my eye sockets felt like I had been punched in both eyes....guess I had the goggles too tight :/

PS - Good Luck in Branson Billy....of course I'll be thinking of you

During my first open water oly, I remember floating at the deep water start, thinking I'm really doing this, I can't believe I'm doing this but I really am.  When the horn sounded, I started away with the pack,  getting smacked a few times but nothing at all like I had imagined it would be like.  After making the turn at the third buoy I had a mini celebration , yeah I am going to finish, and then the womans wave started to pass me.  It was an inspirational moment mixed with a bit of humor.  I remember those feelings every time I get in the water at the start line.  I can do this.  It's not as hard as my mind makes it.  I would do nothing to diminsh the anticipation.  The excitement at the start makes all those workouts worth it.

Good luck Pace.

Jeff, you are so ready!! You'll do great!! One thing to add to all the words of wisdom.. Once the race actually starts, you'll want to go fast and may find yourself out of breath/air very quickly. IF that happens, just slow down , breathe, let people pass you (you'll pass them later!), take your time, find your rhythm and keep going. If you need to stop, stop and tread, your goal is to finish AND enjoy the Tri

Have tons of fun out there!!!!!

  • .....and Kindle rocks!!!

My news of the week... I broke my toe. Oops...

Tuesday afternoon, I was sitting on the couch, got up to answer the door when someone knocked and stubbed my toe pretty bad on the couch on the way to the door. Bad enough that I thought of passing out. Mind you, this was the beginning of a 60 mile week that was going to end with a marathon... and then Chicago marathon in 3 weeks. Well, not anymore.. After thoughts of passing out went away, tried walking and couldn't. all this time, I'm still holding on to hope for at least Chicago..
Went to Immediate Care, dr looked at it and said, "Yep, looks pretty broken, but let's get an X-ray." Yep. Broken.

Ok. I have NEVER.EVER,EVER broken or sprained anything. Until what? 2 months ago? I roll my ankle .. gardening? who does that? and now, days before a marathon, I break my toe on the couch? who does THAT???

I'm obviously bummed, but decided there will be plenty more races and currently looking for the freaking silver lining.

I think in about a week, i'll be able to do ARX and swim. Running is definitely on a distant horizon, but i hope i can start round 2 of P90X in maybe 2-3 weeks?

For anyone about to embark on the journey of doing an irondistance race I think it is a must read!!!! Mark...for those planning on doing IMAZ...ITS A MUST READ!!!!! It really touches on the challenges that everyday people face in training and racing. Very exciting!!!! Congrats Bryan. It was fun to read many parts of this book that are about Bryan as I can remember him "talking" on BT about his races and his struggles. Really fun!!!!!

    Hey Team!

First of all, CONGRATS! to pace on your first Tri.  That feeling of 'Wow, I did it!' lasted a long time for me, I hope it does for you.  Look forward to reading your report.

As for me I did my last race of the season yesterday and finished 3rd in my AG again but had and overall 12th place. Definitely my best placing of the season. And this was despite the fact I made some huge mistakes. I'll just say I'm glad they count times from 3 disciplines and not just 1..haha.

    Race Report:http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=268980

My decision to race my final races in the same distance category, instead of moving up, paid off.  Going into this race the top 4 athletes in my AG were separated by only 30pts with the top three within 10pts of each other. With my 3rd place finish I secured the top spot and became eligible for some nice prizes like a Computrainer or Felt TT bikes.

As for my 1st season of Triathlon racing I will say this:  I LOVE THIS SPORT!  There are so many aspects that I can comment on for why I do. The training never gets boring, my need for more information never gets sated, the people involved in the sport are fantastic and so much more.  I've been very fortunate to connect with so many wonderful people who have helped me. I am very grateful.

Although I am done racing Tri's this season I still have a 1/2 marathon to train for. No rest for the wicked they say...  My coach, Claudia Johnston, thinks I should be able to race Olympic's next season so that is the goal.  Not quite IM level yet but I'll get there .. .

Anyways sorry for the long wind here.  Take care all and most of all Have Fun!

    Glenn

PS.  I forgot to mention how bad I feel for you Lena, breaking your toe so close to a big race. That really sucks but from what I sense from LRR forum is it'll probably make you stronger, faster and hungrier for the next one. Take care.
