Really good race for me.  Run got a little sketchy, I had a nasty side stitch for several miles and bad hot spots on both feet.  Really just sucked it up and ran.  I think the flat course is actually tougher than a course some elevation change because it pounds the same muscles over and over and over again.  My quads were absolutely killing me at the finish (and are still wicked sore this morning).

Post race I walked home with my mom, showered and are and then went back to the finish to cheer and wait wait for Shaun.  Shaun came in about 15:23 and was fairly miserable.  I think he's done with long course for now and I'm psyched for Texas.

Kelly, amazing race for you.  You continue to be so committed, and inspirational.  Great work. It's def cool to be able to track friends in these events.

Shaun, 15 hours, or 11 hours, finishing an ironman is impressive enought to me.  Nice work.

Karen, great run.  I bet the 4 beers were just as exciting though.  Nice job.

Off to  hit the trails for 15 miles with the mountain bike, rough terrain, and plenty of climbing.  It's coming down the other side of the hill that makes the climbs worth it.  I realized I forgot to change the clocks, so I got up an hour before I was supposed to, and now had to wait for my friends to get here. Enjoy your sunday. I get to sheath and shingle my newly built shed (in the process of building on weekends anyway) after my ride.

I'm back!  Internet is finally fixed, we are out of the dark.  Of corse, I've had a cold all week and its has been a nutty week.

COngrats to all the racers.  Great work, Carrie, Karen, Shaun and Kelly.

I had a really lousy week of training between the the power issue and cold.  I did get in a 1:15 run today, which hurt like hell as I could not get a full breath.  Afterward, watched the NY Marathon.  The womens race was unreal.  NY is a mary I have no interest in doing as an AGer, but what an amazing race for the pros.

Carrie - haven't you run like 6 marathons in the last 2 months or something crazy like that?

Seriously, Carrie says she is taking days off, but then she posts she's run a marathon, another marathon, 15 miles...  Maybe her time off is in hours, not days.

I was going to start that BarryP running plan, did anyone see that post?  So I had on my calendar to run 3 today, 6 tomorrow, 3 Wednesday, 6 Thursday, 3 Friday, and 9 Saturday.

I don't think I can run 3 today.  Does walking slowly count?  My quads feel better today, but they still feel like I've beaten them with a baseball bat.

How can I be more sore after a marathon than after an entire IM?  Because it was a flat course?  But Louisville & Wisconsin were both flat.  I walked more at the IM, and did push through the intense quad muscle pain in Savannah, but seriously???  I can barely walk.

I think the Barry P running plan is a good one, but take some time to recover (ummmm you just ran a marathon).  I would take a week super easy with no plan and then start Barry P next week.

I'm taking two full weeks off now.

With regard to muscle soreness, my quads are more sore now than they were after IMLP and I think its because the IMFL run course was flat.  With flat the same muscles get pounded repeatedly, whereas with hills you use different muscles.

Looking forward to two unstructured weeks.  Should be interesting.

I'm doing barryp plan right now.  Well, building it up to that.....4-8-4-8-4-12.  Want to stay around 40 mpw for the winter months.  I'm not really doing any speedwork right now either - just hill repeats, steady state, and easy (I am establishing heartrate zones tomorrow though, so that ought to be fun ).

I would give yourself a week to recover and start building again.

Back on my bike this morning for the first time in almost 2 months.  It felt great!!!!  I'm ready to start logging some time on it.  It's going to be a loooong winter

Really going to modify diet this week.  I have been out of control and it's reflected in the number I'm seeing on the scale.  Goodbye for now, carbs!  Boo.

Me without structure is like a ship lost at sea.  Good luck with that.

Thinking about running the Galveston Mardi Gras Marathon on 2/5.  Anyone think I'll have trouble getting ready?  It's about 10ish miles more than I've ever run at one time.

Here's the update from our last day in Florida:

Blog updated (11/04/2011): Panama City Beach Wrap Up

Scott -- I think you'll be fine to run a marathon in early February.  It looks like this winter is going to have some serious run focus going on here.

I honestly don't give a s#$t about time on the mary.  I just want to see if I can do it.  My real focus is 4/1 in Galveston.  I also have 2 buddies I need to get ready to sit on my wheel for 180ish miles over 2 days in Mid April.

Is Galveston a WTC half?

I think you'll be fine with a Feb. mary.

Yeah it's a WTC half.  Flat as a board but windy.  The bike is exposed to the Gulf for probably 90% of the mileage.

BTW had a friend finish NYC in 4:20 something with a stop in the med tent at mile 20 because her knee gave out on her.  WTC should take notes from them on the tracking system.

One of my neighbors (who is an Ironman) did the Atlanta full a week ago.  It was super hilly.  He finished in 3:16 - that's just crazy!

Another one of my neighbors just did a 100 mile trail race this past weekend, and finished in 22 hours.  I don't think my feet would hold up, it would be blister city!

I really need to get my a$$ in gear and figure what my plan is going to be. I've been slightly lazy in comparison to what I was doing.  the 3 week break of limited volume was actually nice, but I now have to get back into building up that base.

Hmmmm, what to do.

I have a friend that did the Marine Corps Marathon in about the same time.  It was 3:14:xx I think.  He says he starts at an 8 minute mile pace and starts cranking it down from there.  I was like "Holy XXXX!!"

Whew! Went to my first one on one training session at that boot camp gym I signed up for.

Did 4 exercises in a circuit, 2 times around. Then finished off pushing the weight sled back and forth for 10 reps.

I've realized I haven't done push ups in forever...that sucked. Laughing

So I caved and signed up for IMFL in 2012.  It'll be Texas in May and Florida in November.
