Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Decided to wear my HR monitor for this morning's run just to see where I'm at for an easy pace. I use paces from Mcmillan (will modify when I actually do the threshold test and will run based on HR). My average HR was 129 for the run. Isn't that low? Does that mean I can run my easy runs a little bit faster? I don't want speed right now...just lots and lots of easy base mileage. What do you think? May do some power yoga this afternoon, and then I'm heading to the pool for a short swim tonight. |

Because your HR is "low" compared to someone else's HR does not mean you should run faster. I have an aerobic HR zone of 137-149 whereas a friend of mine who is the same age is between 155-170. Until you do a HR test, I would stick with the McMillan paces, which are a pretty good proxy. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Kelly, Very cool. Planned to run on treadmill this morning but when I woke up it was 40 degrees and light enough to run outside by 6 am. Only had time fOr just under 6 miles but felt great to run outdoors on a beautiful morning. |

Sounds like a great plan! Did FL really sell out in 16 minutes? How is that possible? Did you register in person? |

Sounds like a great plan! Did FL really sell out in 16 minutes? How is that possible? Did you register in person? I actually bought a community foundation slot because it sold out so quickly. I could have registered on-site (I actually waited in line with a friend of mine who was registering) but I needed to make sure the date worked and get shaun on board, which took a little extra time. |

By that, she means dangling bait in front of me, waiting for me to bite on it and then wrestling me on deck with the help of her friends and a giant net.
I have DOS in my legs. (delayed onset soreness) |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So with about a mile left in this morning's run, that same pain I experienced during the HM came back. Outside of left knee, and a little behind it in that muscle. I've only ran 2-3 time in the last three weeks, trying to give it as much rest as possible. I've also had 2 massages in the last 10 days, specifically working on that area and the IT band as that was a little irritated as well. I'm about to start picking up the volume again, and was hoping this would be gone. Is this IT Band related, another issue maybe? Any thoughts? |

Would you say that it is in roughly the same place as this bruise?
If so, you have ITBS. I had that issue after MCM and it was simply the IT band being inflamed at the point of attachment. Rest and ice are about the only thing that will help it. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() That pic looks very similar to mine about ten months ago. Rest and ice, then added flexibility and addressing the issue that inflamed it which 90 percent of the time is a muscle imbalance. |

Yes, it felt like I could talk to someone while doing it. That's how an easy run is supposed to feel; right? I'll have to do the LT test. I keep putting it off. LOL |

LOL Easy run is easier than just being able to talk. Being able to talk comfortably is an aerobic run. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Went to the boot camp group session this evening...holy crap. 8 workouts tonight, 3 times through...1 min per workout, about 10 seconds in between, then a 2 minute rest after the 8 are done before starting back up. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sounds like a tough workout Steve. I took my Ridgeback running this morning. She did so good. And my other running partner, who has been more interested in sleeping in these days, was very jealous. Dogs are funny. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Kelly - you must be very exicted about those videos! OK, I decided to give coconut water another go. I bought a different brand, Zico, and it was actually quite tolerable. If it was chocolate flavored I'd want one every day. The other two kinds I tried were so thick with pulp or whatever, it made me ill. This was not bad. Bryan may be onto something. |

If so, you have ITBS. I had that issue after MCM and it was simply the IT band being inflamed at the point of attachment. Rest and ice are about the only thing that will help it. That is EXACTLY the spot. At least it is nothing major. I thought 3 weeks of limited volume was enough rest. Damn it. I will continue to ice. Scott, do you mean one leg muscle is more developed than the other side, meaning right vs left. Kind of funny you say that because i do see a slight difference in size in my left quad (bigger) than my right quad. And last time I was at the shop adjusting my setup, he mentioned I really need to work on form because I have what he called "wind swept knees" or something like that. Meaning my left leg was not as close to the top tune as my right. he said, you'll start to have IT band issues if you don't correct that. Well, what do you know. That was in July/August, and here we are with this continuous problem. So no running at all, and just ice?? Can I still bike? I don't have any pain on the bike. |
