I am glad I am not crazy about the coconut water and that there is someone else out there who likes coconut and does not like the water.

Another one here- they had coconut water as one of the post-race at the NYC olympic last year, and even with it being 90+ degrees out I couldn't drink it.  Just not a fan either.

I also am not a fan of the coconut water. I've tried it several times but just can't seem to get a taste for it.

I was hoping to run 6 miles today but I made it 4 miles before I bonked. I literally ended up sitting on a bench with my head in my hands, chest and ribs heaving.

After review I only have myself to blame. I've let my diet slip by not eating a lot. My calorie intake was less than 2000 per day while continuing to work full time, keep a full training schedule, and getting little sleep. It just caught up with me today and I could not continue.

After a solid healthy meal I feel better and am looking forward to a strong swim tomorrow.

Good night, time to enjoy a night off and spend it with my boy.

I am a total light weight when it comes to trying new things like coconut water.  And after reading everyone's comments I am glad that I haven't tried it.

Beth, I have been there (bonking due to nutrition).  It is a valuable lesson.  I still struggle big time with it.

Hi everyone! So my Monday pool workout was definitely interesting to say the least. I'd planned to do 1600 yards total, but after 1250, the entire room went black and they started yelling at us to get out of the pool. Turns out, there was a huge transformer fire in a section of Boston that lead to blackouts around the city, including the neighborhood that my gym is in. Other than that, just a fairly unremarkable run this morning to cap off the midweek.

In other news, I'm officially starting with my tri coach next week. I'm curious where he's going to have me start. I'll be sure to update next week!

Sebastian - I know it's all relative, but I find it hard to believe you'd ever qualify for turtle status in the pool!

Beth - Sorry to hear you bonked on your run. At least you seem to have pinpointed the likely culprit, and it's easily remedied. I wish my problem was not enough calories, but seriously, take care of yourself!

Happy Friday everyone!

Beth- that has happened to me a few times on my runs too.  I don't always get a ton of calories in my daily diet either and the calories I get are not always the best.  One of the things I try to do is have a snack pre-excerciese or mid run fuel-up to help keep me going on longer efforts, but sometimes it just doesn't work.  I like to hope that I get a little better at it each time.

This light workout week has been great.  I've gotten in a short run and a short ride, with another short run scheduled for tomorrow.  With all of this extra time, I might actually get to the bike shop later today to get some new tubes/tires for the season.

I'm happy to anounce that since I've actually been keeping tack of my food intake I've lost 17 pounds!!!!!! The only problem with this is that if I loose 15 more pounds I loose my Fat Girl status. I can end in a respectable place racing with the Fat Girls, but I don't stand a change in my age group.

Two days ago I decided that since I've gotten my eating back on track that I'd try a mini reverse triathlon for training. I pulled a 2 mile run in 18 minutes, 15 mile bike over moderate to steep rolling hills with a steady headwind for the last five miles in 45 minutes, and a 3/4 mile swim that turned into my sorry attempt at an International Medley with several interuptions in about 45 minutes.

Overall I feel great. It was great to do the three sports but have a different line up. I'm looking forward to when I do it for real.

Beth

Today was my first marathon.  It was quite an experience.  I totally get the wall at mile 20 now.  I had serious dead legs and I limped to the finish.

It was a good race even with that.  It was a PR (being my first) and I qualified for Boston to boot. I have posted my race report.

I'll write more tomorrow when I have access to an actual computer and not just my phone, but I just wanted to say congratulations Ken! I was thinking about you doing the race this morning and hoping it went well, and it sounds like that was the case!

Hi everyone! I had a fairly productive weekend in the workout department. Got in a decent swim on Friday, although now that I'm using my 910xt, I've discovered that my average pace is probably only around a 2:16, not the 2:05 I thought it was. Still faster than last year! Saturday I went on a ride outside. Not quite the beautiful weather the weatherman had promised, but still nice to get out on the road again. Finally, yesterday I ran a 7M loop near my mom's place in VT. It is so hilly out there, and I'm definitely not in peak shape, so it was a killer, but I got through it. Tonight it's off to the pool again.

Will - I saw you broke two hours in your half on Sunday, congratulations!

Beth - Congratulations on your weight loss! As for potentially dropping out of the Athena category, you may end up doing better than you think. Dropping weight does definitely lead to a faster pace for running and on the bike, and it's still very early in the season, so I'm sure you're going to see a lot of gains over the coming months.

Ken - Congratulations again on the marathon! It definitely takes practice to find what pace works best, since, as I'm sure you experienced, you can feel great around the half, only to crash by the 18-20M mark. Way to push through the pain though!

Beth, it would be for next year's race.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes.  I really appreciate it.

Hi everyone- great weekend here for me.  I had a good run in my 1/2- finished well below my goal of 2 hours. Looks like all of that running is starting to pay off.

With the half marathon over and my first tri not until June, I have a few weeks of unstructured training ahead.  I am hoping for a swim tomorrow, and I am not too sure from there...

Next week is a vacation week in Charlotte NC- while my wife is there for a conference, Eliza and I are going to bounce between visiting friends in Charlotte and friends/family in SC.  Not overly restful, or productive from a training standpoint, but since we only get to see my family once or twice a year it will be worthwhile.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Will

Hi everyone! It's been a pretty productive training week so far for me. First, I just started with my coach yesterday. Nothing too intense setup for this week, since I have my race in FL coming up this weekend, but it's probably good to have an introductory week to start to adjust to the regimentation of the schedule. No more aimless rides, runs and swims for me!

Aside from that, I also took advantage of the gorgeous weather we've been having and bike commuted in and back yesterday, and in again this morning. Have to lock my bike up at work tonight since I have a swim workout then dinner plans, but it was a great way to start the day.

Hope everyone's week has been off to a great start!

Good morning everyone! For the past few months I've been using a training plan from Active.com but I've felt like I really wasn't getting a good training session. So I went back to the BT free plans for the HIM.

OMG I can barley move my arms this morning and I have a long drill session in the pool in a few hours. It's nice to feel my body working again! Now I need to get back in the habit of using my training logs.

Hope everyone will have a good day.

Hi everyone! Well, I'd hoped to get in a swim and short run today, but between wrapping things up here at work before I take off for a few days and catching my flight later this afternoon, I'm just not going to have enough time. Meanwhile, I have my tri bag packed and ready to go for my race on Sunday down in sunny FL. I'm admittedly a bit nervous about the swim since I haven't been in open water in five months, but the rest should be fine, albeit a bit slower than I'd like since I'm not currently in peak shape...

Tyler - Nice to hear from you! Looks like you're back to getting in some pretty consistent workouts. Keep up the good work!

Beth - Glad you've found a new plan that challenges you. You've definitely been dedicated about putting in the time, so you may as well push yourself to see what you're capable of. It will definitely pay off down the road!

Ken - The 24-48 hour window after the marathon was always the worst for me. I can't believe you went swimming the next two days! I'm sure you're feeling a lot better now.

Thanks for the good luck wishes, Will. Hope you're enjoying your vacation!

I'm now down in FL. Went for a short, but sweltering run this morning. I don't know how all of you in the south train, I'm a heat wuss! Picked up the rental bike with a set of 808 tubular firecrests. Just took it out on a spin, and it's a bit tricky in the wind, but can really fly when that's not in the equation, so I'm happy. We'll see how it handles tomorrow...

Hope everyone's having a great weekend!

Welcome to FL! I tried to avoid the heat as much as possible when training, today I woke up at 6:15 so I could do my long run before it got too bad. Looks like tomorrow we may get some rain, hope it doesn't affect your race too much. I am planning to go riding at 8 am, but if it's raining I may cancel.

All the best in the race!

Thanks, Sebastian! I'll be out there rain or shine. Actually, rain I can handle, I just hope there's no lightening and the wind isn't too bad. Either way, we'll all be dealing with the same challenges, so I'll work with what I'm given!

Good luck in your race!!!! Be sure to let us know how you like the rental bike in relation to your bike back home.

I for one have taken the today and tomorrow off. My son had a soccer game this morning which ended in a tie 3-3. My dear son did manage to score the first goal though.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Race is done, and report has been posted, so feel free to check it out if you're interested. Definitely starting to wind down at this point. Lucky for me, I don't have any plans aside from lounging around all afternoon!

Beth, the rental wasn't as good as having my own bike, but it wasn't too bad. They'll put on your own pedals, so no issues there. My reach felt like it was a bit long, but I really only noticed when I had to shift. Even with the race wheels, it was less expensive than if I'd flown my own down, so that was a plus as well. That's great you got to see your son score a goal, that has to be fun for both of you!
