Extreme Veteran 1338 | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! Once again I have a weekend of anxiety waiting for race reports...I swear it is much easy to race than wait for you all and watch you win.... Flipper - I am back in town and you are officially banned from negative thoughts. No more. None. You are ready...you have done the work. It is VERY normal to have those thoughts. I am beginning my taper this next week for my oly in 2 weeks and I have some concerns as well, but the fortunate thing is having done some races I KNOW I will be OK. That said I also KNOW you will be OK. Walk the bike up the hill if necessary and if anyone even looks at you funny, flip them off....tell them I told you to... -- really just shift to the easy gears - the easiest if necessary and spin right up that sucker...if you can't get all the way, shut her down and walk her up. Also, if there are hills on the run try running the flats and the downhills and walk the uphills. I walk in EVERY race I do. I would laugh if anyone on the sidelines said anything or looked at me as those poor slobs probably couldn't run 100 yards much less meters...so you go girl!!! You have a lot of sTRIvers pulling you toward the finish line. Flipper - this was posted before your 5k Flipper, Then you posted this....remember? OMG, how do I describe the feeling?!! We had a PERFECT - you're hearing me, right? - a PERFECT day for this race! The sky was so blue it was... well, I can't even describe it, lol. And the water... you have to see the bay and the gulf on a morning like this morning to believe it. I've run faster on the treadmill, but I intentionally paced myself, and am thrilled with the finish time for my first race. I kept thinking about Bryan's advice, and I wanted to take in EVERY second, even the times I couldn't breath. When we got water cups at the water stations, I pictured races that I've seen clips of on TV, and I almost shouted: "Hey, it's ME getting water in a race!" I smiled and talked to everyone and so did my hubby (Bill). Everyone was great. And there were actually folks at the finish line that cheered us when finished? HOW COOL IS THAT?! My official time is 40.11 and I finished 6th in my division. Gee-willikers-wow, what an AWESOME feeling of accomplishment! I want to say more, but I'm honestly still dazed! I can't believe that we did it! Thank you guys, for all for your support! |

Uxbridge | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! Funny story I went to pick up my race packet today and there were three guys in line ahead of me talking about the water temps. I told them that I had just finished the swim course (I practiced) and it wasn't to bad. One guy said to me " do you swim with your face in the water?". I wanted to say Are you KIDDING ME??????? but I refrained. I just answered yes. They proceded to tell me thay swam as "kids" (they were all in there early 30's) and that they weren't worried, they would probably take a few more minutes than everyone else. They had NOT DONE ANY PRACTICE, open water or pool swimming. I suggested they swim on the outside of the pack and take their time. Oh are they in for a RUDE awakening tommorow morning when they hit that water about (58 degrees) and try to swim 800 meters with their heads out of the water. I dont care what type of shape your in, thats just too tough. So for those of you who think you aren't ready to do the swim ,just remember... you have already swam the distance, with good form, and you would definately KICK these guys BUTTS!!! Juanita you would be out of the water before they circled the first bouy. I did swim the course, it definately looks more like 800 than 500. I swam with a guy who had done ironmans and we were done in 9:30. ( that was all I did today) I was psyched! I swam at a relaxed pace and it was fine. I still can breathe as well as I would like but its OK. My problem will be getting out of the sausage casing. I sent my husband out for some PAM for my legs... I can hear you laughing Bryan! Last year I was so nervous when I did a race(running or tri's) and this year its much more excitement. sTRIve on fellow turtles |

Extreme Veteran 553 New Brunswick, Canada | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! Race Report Yours truly and Mrs FBP both had great races !! I finished in 2:10 and Jill was right behind me in 2:20. We had a perfect day weather-wise. Chilly to start but no rain and only a modest wind, into our face on the route out so pushing us on the way back. There were roughly 300 entrants in the Half so it took a while to get into a rhythm but once I did my pace was comfortable and constant. I was aiming to stay under 6:10 per km and managed to do that the whole way. I knew a ton of people taking part and so on the out/back route you got to see everyone at least once. A person near me ramarked that she thought I must know everyone in the race because I was saying hi so often . Saw Jill just after the turnaround point so I knew she wasn't that far behind me. Figured she might have gone out a little too quick but apparently not. Loads of people I know were at the finish line waiting to cheer on those who finished behind them. I love that about races - folks are so supportive. Great eats at the end - subway sandwiches, oranges, bananas, bagels, water, etc. Also free massages - Mrs FBP had one and said they were great. Cool medals too - shaped like a whole round medal that's been broken in Half. I'll post a pic later. Heading out now to a local pub to meet up with some of the folks from my Running Mania on-line group who are in town for race weekend. First time I'll have met any of them in person. Can't wait to read Mav's race report - I actually said a little prayer to wish her luck when I was at the 6 km mark. Flipper - please email me ([email protected]) your mailing address as I have an envelope to send you. Sticka |

Uxbridge | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! Sorry, I am not going to be able to give you pics as it keeps saying the file is too big. I am getting too frustrated...as I am NOT a technical person!!!ANy suggestions??? BUT I PLACED SECOND IN MY AGE GROUP!!!!!! WOOOOHOOOOO. I don't even know where to begin I am so excited. It was very cool this am 45 degrees. We headed to the race site around 7:00 am. I got very nervous on the way there, not really sure why. Set up my transition area(all I did was think of FBP in the hot tub transition/ helped to calm my nerves). Then I needed to use the bathroom after I had already put my wetsuit on...what a pain in the a$$, literally. Went down to the lake and talked to a few people and than headed back to transition for the national anthem. It warmed a bit to about 50. Everyone headed to the water, I stopped and had my son help clean my goggles as they had vaseline on them, he added a little of his spit,to prevent fogging(sorry if thats too gross , but it works). I was in the second wave(all women). It was a wading start as they were afraid to have people dive in as the water was really cold (52-55). I got in the front of the pack as I know that swimming is my strength and I wanted to try and PR. Off we went! Got kicked and elbowed more than ever before, man some women are really competative!!!!.I really think it was about a 650 swim. As we came around the second bouy I was in the front of the pack with only one small group in front of us. I went nuts to break away from the rest of the pack and broke free from the group. My swim was 9:08 A PR for me. Came out of the water and unzipped my wetsuit (only to realize that I hadnt zipped my tri suit all the way up after the bathroom...quickly took care of that!!!LOL) T1 was longer than I liked, I was shivering a bit the PAM worked great, got out of the sausage casing with ease. Couldnt get my bike jacket zipped to easily. Took off on the bike and did well. Hit 37.5 on the down hill (a PR for me). Got off the bike with a fairly quick T 2 and began running. About 11/2 miles in a lady who was 50 passed me and said " don't worry you are in first place I did not finish the swim" I realized that I hadn't seen any 50 year olds on the course and I was winning , can I tell you how excited I was OMG!!! I had a t shirt on that I made that said RUN LIKE A MOTHER. So a lot of folks were laughing and made great comments along the way. It made running so much more tolerable/ thanks for the idea FBP!. Came in through the finish line thinking of all of you. THANK YOU ALL!! When I saw the final race report I realized I came in second, which is fine. The women who was first came out of the water just before me which is why I didn't pass her. I think my final time was 1:26:08. I'll check when the website lists it and I'll give you the splits. But I was almost 10 minutes faster than last year!!!!!! After the race were the awards .I won a great technical shirt, 2 cases of hammer gel, a $25 gift certificate for a massage and some roses. It was unbelieveable! I think your prayers were working FBP! Went to lunch with my family after the race. Went in my t shirt and my body markingsLOL!!!! It was my best Mothers day ever!!!!! CONGRATS ON YOUR RACE STICKA....WAY TO GO MRS STICKA. That is one fast time for a half. |

Extreme Veteran 553 New Brunswick, Canada | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! AWESOME MAV !!!!!!!!! Must have posted my message (about good things coming from mav) just as you posted your report because it ended up on the board out of sequence. Wow - what a great result. I'm so proud of you !!!! Loved that you went out afterwards with your body markings - war paint you might say. Glad that people liked the slogan on your shirt too I made up a sign with those words on it too and posted it on our race course. Can't be sure how many saw it and probably fewer again understood the comment. Jill and I went out afterwards to meet a couple of the folks from my RunningMania.com discussion board. I had nachos and a beer (Guinness) - even though I almost never drink lcohol. I associate Guinness though with racing because my first ever race was the Dublin marathon and there is nothing that tastes better than a Guinness, in Dublin, after a marathon !!! Found out our official times and I snuck in under 2:10 by 3 seconds. Mrs FBP was well under 2:20 so just 9 minutes separated us. Man, I'm going to have to work harder to stay ahead of her !! Mav - you mentioned that you're having tech problems posting - pics or vids? If pics, what site are you using to host your pics - photobucket? If so, I can try to give you instructions because that's what I use. Leston - great work on the bike man. That's my next focus is to get some longer rides and shorter runs. Mav - did you run into (or over) the guys you met at race packet pickup? |

Extreme Veteran 553 New Brunswick, Canada | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! You're welcome! Try this for posting pics: 1. Open two windows, one for this thread and one for photobucket and sign into both. 2. In the photobucket album copy the address for the Direct Link. You can do this by left click (to highlite the link) and then right click and scroll down to copy 3. In the BT thread type your message and then click on the insert photo icon. You will get a dialogue box that asks for a URL location. Left click to get the cursor there then right click and scroll to paste and click. You now should have the image location listed there and tyou then click on Insert. 4. You will now have the image in the BT post but it will likely be very big. To re-size it you need to click the cursor on the picture. You should then see some small white boxes appear on the edge. Go to either the top left corner or the bottom right corner by moving the slider on the side bottom. When you see the small white box, click and hold on it and then move it inwards/upwards to resize the frame. You may have to do this several times to get it small enough. Clear as mud? Sticka |

(and he works for a computer co. LOL). Got the final race results and posted a report on this website. My swim time was not as good as I originally thought 10:14, but I came in 86/250 in the swim and 166/250overall . What really suprised me was I did my 5K in 27:04!!!!!!!!!!! A NEW PR for sure. The course was definately not 5 K . My time last year on the same course was 31:49 so I shaved off 4:45. Have a great Day! |
