Master 1567 Kauai, Hawaii | Subject: RE: US West Team - May "President's Cup" challenge Shoeless - 2008-05-21 8:29 AM Aaack, they cancelled the swim portion of my race for this weekend! Now it is a duathlon. I felt I at least had a bit of an edge in the swim, but I am completely disadvantaged at running. Instead of taking it easy tomorrow, I have to go out and give my hardest-ever two miles, and make it a brick with the bike, just to see if I can do it. DD and I have been planning this race as a team for two months. She will do the final running leg. I know I can accomplish this, I just want to be as fast as I can for DDs sake. Phooey, I hate it when other people change my mind. This happened to me once! Why did they cancel the swim? Ours was because of box jellyfish. |

I am dying today, but that's back where I was before I got all out of shape. If I can keep that pace up on Monday, I will be a very very happy girl....but, seeing as this is my very first race, I will be happy to make 10 minute miles!!! |

We warmed up considerably this week and the local TV networks AND radios can't say enough about the excessive melt that's rampaging the rivers.... Maybe I should take up river kayaking???? Sad though, b/c fast melt doesn't help the drought. |

Master 1281 Long Beach, CA | Subject: RE: US West Team - May "President's Cup" challenge Hi everyone! Is 110% the cap for the challenge? If so, I've met it for cycling...but no where near on the others! Guess what I'll be focusing on! Also, does walking count toward running as it did last month? Also, do you get a 5% increase for every brick/race in a given week, or just once in a week? I may need to throw some bricks in this weekend. OK...one more also...are bricks just considered bike/run, or does swim/bike count? What about swim/run or run/swim? Probably not... |

Geez -- I hope any kind of brick counts -- also, can you accumulate 2 bricks in a workout? (If you do all three sports or sandwich one sport between two times of another, eg: bike/run/bike). I had hoped to do a bike/run tonight, but I'm home alone with the girls, so no go on the run. However, I've pulled myself up to a slightly less disrespectable 35% overall for the month. Some bricks would definitely help. |

Thank goodness I didn't go on distance because I have no idea how far I swam. It was my 1st coaching session since the EARLY 90's!!! Went well, got some great tips and met someone that swam 3.2 miles in just over an hour! In a lake. Without a wetsuit! Wow. I was in awe. |

I did slap a few with my hands, too! YIKES! but I do think it gave me purpose to get out of the water a lot faster then if there were none there! |

Champion 7546 Santa Cruz, California | Subject: RE: US West Team - May "President's Cup" challenge Hi all...I was just updating the spreadsheet...and still see LOTS of REALLY low numbers! mine included! come on you guys and gals! you will feel so much better after you get out and run, swim or bike...and some of us still have not even gotten to 50%.... Jim...do you have time to do another chart!? if you are struggling to get your percentages up and you have a certain thing that motivates you...let us know....ie...inspires....inspires with pictures of hottie swimmers, bikers or runners, a firm nudge or a kick in the pool (like I always need), a jolt of coffee...or maybe you have lost your mojo and need us to help you find it!?!! Hope that we can get those numbers WAYYYYYYYY up...we are WAAAAAAY behind the other team - - so, I am begging EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU - - get out there and get busy - SWIM BIKE AND RUN! or do all three! make sure if you race or do a brick to add that to the chart for that week. I am going to do all in my power to get the meters remaining for my swims....and will be running with my dd this weekend...so, I should be reaching my goals...and I could have very easily have dropped out of this challenge after my bike wreck. I still have a HUGE bruise that wraps around my leg and it is not PURDY! and it hurts like CARP...mainly when I touch it!!? so, beleive you me....I am not touching it!!!! I get some really weird looks at the pool...my dh said he really can not believe that I did not break my leg!?!! I by no means are looking for sympathy...but hoping to fire some of you up! LETS GO TEAM!!!! We have some moving to do if we want to be the BEST coast team! so goooo gooooo gooooooooooooooooooo! |
