It's funny to hear you talking about the cold weather. We are only a couple of days off summer here.  I remember writing about how I was freezing my butt off while you were all busking in the sunshine

Oh, OK.  I misread the challenge.  So just 30 minutes minimum for 31 days?  Well, that's not hard.  (You know you're a triathlete when 30 minutes of exercise is just getting started!)

I think we've got a nice team together, so we're officially closing the group now.

Thanks! I quit July 28th, so almost a full 4 months now! As to what is a Husker? it is an annoying little creature that pops its head out around August in hopes of a return to its former greatness and a national championship (J/k chili! Please don't hate me!). Husker is short for Cornhusker, which is the mascot for the University of Nebraska.

Dont believe Scott, Michelle. Us Huskers are EXTREMLY annoying ! We do love our college sports team though.

 GO BIG RED !

I hope everyone who did a turkey trot today had a good run.  (Mine seemed to be 4mi of hills, but that just means more pie for me!)

Hope everyone had a great thanksgiving. Well tommorrow back to the training, I'm starting off with a 5k race and afterwards going to work and when i take my lunch break i'll be working out on strength training. I work at a gym so it's quite easy for me to get my workouts in without any excuses. Also starting monday they are starting a Crossfit Program so i'll be looking into that, i've heard about the program but i'm not really familiar with it but i'm sure it's going to be interesting and it can only help. I'll keep this group informed of my results of the race.

Good luck with your 5k Joseph.  I read up about crossfit a while back - looks very interesting. They have a whole website about it - that and crossfit endurance - maybe check it out if you haven't already.  You are certainly in the right place to get your workouts done!!

ok... I'm full of crap.

I don't know why, but I signed up for a half marathon. I did it because everyone else was. Now I have to race some of my bosses at work and can't let them beat me. Looks like I'll be getting back into training. Man, I hate getting into shape!

Happy thanksgiving for those who celebrate.

Yeah, Crossfit is pretty awesome from what I hear.  They have a couple threads on it under the Strength Training forum here.  One is for the Workout of the Day (WOD) and the other is a general one.

Now that I'm joining the Y Monday, I'm going to do Crossfit as my strength training.  You really have to read a lot on their website to get it, I think.  What was very helpful to me was reading their FAQs page  http://www.crossfit.com/cf-info/faq.html and watching their Crossfit Exercises http://www.crossfit.com/cf-info/excercise.html.

Greg, welcome back, buddy!  Stupid half-marathons!    When is the race?

Way to go, Greg. Someday i would like to do a half ironman. That is awesome. For right now I am just shooting for a sprint tri next year, after that who knows.

So far so good and this group is a tremendous help, especially with "operation peach month" coming next week. I made it through the holiday without any major problems, and my son and I are going to the gym today to hopefully shed some of that turkey.  I am shooting for getting under 200 by new years end, that would be 13 lbs off.  That would put me in good position for next year.

Hey Mark, I am not trying to be the bearer of bad news...and I think it is great you have a weight loss goal you are trying to reach.  However, 13lbs in one month is really a lot and is not very healthy overall for your body.  A safe weight loss is 1-2lbs per week.  It takes a deficit of 3500 calories to lose ONE pound.  So trying to lose 13lbs in a month is equal to a deficit of 45,500 calories (or approx 1500 cal every day!).

If you are working out that much, and not eating as much, you will lose the weight....but you end up weaking your body in the process b/c it is not getting proper nutrition.  Just something to think about, b/c I would hate to see you get sick or hurt trying to reach the goal.  Slow and steady is best and it will come off!

Oh, and I've been totally lazy the past few days and have been eating all the holiday food!  Good luck to everyone during the Plentiful Peach Participation Period!

Well group i ran another 5k race today, course was basically flat with 2 inclines which were not major inclines at all. Today i celebrated my birthday with a 2nd place finish for my age group, ran my 5k in 28:00 flat. Not bad considering that i knocked off 30 sec from my last 5k that i ran last weekend i figured as i run these races i'll be getting even better, at the same time i'll be looking into adding a 10k to work in my endurance so in reality these races are being used as a part of my training for my half marathon run early next year. To be honest i was not even going to run because of a slight stomach ache all morning but when i arrived and i put my race number on and started warming up the little discomfort i was feeling went a away. Overall it was a good day.

I will be satisfied with 1-2 lbs per week of weight loss for next month which would put me within a 4-8 lbs of my year end goal.  I totally agree Tim that proper nutrition is important, and I should have mentioned that during this past year of weight loss I have been seeing a nutritionist and having regular checkups by my doctor, which has helped keep things in balance.  ( 38 lbs so far ! Wahoo! ) Realistically, I should be able to get close but not there by end of year. By setting a date it just gives me a bit more motivation.

Hi Greg!

I noticed that there will be more mentor groups starting in December - should I wait for those or can I join this group now? I just signed up for my first tri today and I'm so excited!!

Also, I never really got the hang of threads and forums, so hopefully I'm relpying in the correct place.

Hi Brodie (or is it Corinna?)

I think we have room for one more. Congratulations on taking the plunge and signing up for your first tri. I am sure you will find plenty of inspiration here and we will do our best to answer any questions you have. I suggest you read through the previous pages to get to know who else is within the group.  We are about to undertake a month of peaches (see previous pages for info) so you signed up at a good time if you want to work hard over the next month.
