Member 60 Stamping Ground, KY | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Mentor Group - CLOSED AlanaF - 2010-01-27 10:49 AM Ok - this sounds like whining but, if anyone has any ideas.... I've finally come to grips with the fact that in order to train the way I want to I have to do more than one discipline per day. The thing I hate about doing a workout in the AM and the PM isn't really the workouts, its all the before and after. I feel like all I do all day long is change clothes, shower, and get ready. Half the time I just put my hair in a ponytail because why bother fixing it for a few hours?? Same thing with make up. Why bother? The only solutions I can think of is: 1 - harden up. Who cares if half my life is changing clothes? 2 - Do bricks instead. 3 - Stay sweaty and stinky all day and enjoy having some time to myself Any suggestions? (guys have these kinds of things too easy) I agree with you. Easiest for me is to try and do it early. I have made adjustments as I have gotten older, i.e. growing hair out for less fixing, decreased makeup (my husband would like if I didn't wear it at all) but you are right exercising is like going to work have to look at it like that. O.K. the men in the group can just sit this one out and not comment. I am sure you all have lots to add, LOL |

Meant to build mental toughness as much as physical fitness. http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/88584/defau... Enjoy! Nice, thanks for thinking of me! |

Veteran 280 Glens Falls | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Mentor Group - CLOSED Had a new experince today-guess word has gotten around the Hopital that I am training and getting into Triathlons. Was approached by a couple of the local bike riders to join their group. Along with donating some of my time for a worthy cause-Diabetes. Thought it might be a good idea and also help with some of my training too. My rides are short in comparision to theirs so only signed up for the 50 miles instead of 100 miles. (can always change it as my rides progress during the season) The ride is 6/6/2010 and falls right into place for my Sprint later that month. So if any of you have diabetes or a family member who does you can log onto my newly found site and make a donation. Working in health care I see a lot of different types of illness and when ever I can I try to give back--that is one of the reason that I travel to Guatemala yearly to set up a clinic for those who are less fortunate. And also voluteer at a camp during the summer for kids who have lost someone to cancer. Now finding this group I thought it would be a good change--getting in my work-outs for racing and voluteering time/raising money for diabetes. Sorry don't mean to give speeches here or get up on my soap box to address the crowds-but I truely believe in those who are in good health should take a look around sometimes and lend a helping hand to those who are in need. So if anyone is interested- www.tour.diabetes.org go to donations-select rider-James McCarty--thanks for listening! |

Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Mentor Group - CLOSED i think the brinks are good on days you have time otherwise, i think pony tail and stinky will beat flabby and out of shape on most days. when there is a special event if you have been training you will look so much better in that little black dress unless your work absolutely forbids no makeup, pony tail and a little dishelvelled, i would do a quick sponge off rinse and keep on training ...if you are motivated to do 2 work outs a day i would not let other things come in way as we say in the south (i am a transplanted Canadian so it took me awhile to understand this saying and not get my feminist radar up) you go girl ... |

Let's just say, i have thought about this, but when i read Alana's post i began to realize i don't really have anything to complain about. I usually just like to bookend my workouts if i do 2 a day. Morning workout, shower, get ready, evening workout, shower, get ready...for bed. Or, i do weights and either a spin class or run all at once at the gym. On the other hand, with all the working out, nobody's going to be looking at your face |

It's funny, the reaction you usually get when people find out about your new hobby is either very supportive, or very not supportive. Most of the people I told just said I was doing another impulsive thing and I was crazy. Even my wife was a bit unsupportive at first, but she is very supportive now and even suggested I do IMAZ this year. As far as the 50 or 100 miles goes, see where you are a couple of weeks out. You still have 5 months, plenty of time to decide. |

Frugal Gear Geek 2199 having fun with the kids | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Mentor Group - CLOSED Ok, chiming in on the double workouts. First of all, if your biggest issue is about how much laundry you are doing due to workouts...OUTSTANDING!!! Someone clued me in on following plans, and fitting in workouts. Most plans are designed to get you ready to do well, not just finish a race. They tend to be padded with about 20% more workouts than you realy need to have a decent race. The idea of this is everyone misses workouts. Thus, if you schedual 120%, and miss 20% of your workouts, you are still ready to rock and roll. Please do not read me wrong. If you can get all the workouts into your schedual great!! I just know from talking to a few Pros over the years that planning a workout program, and following it are two different issues. It has taken me a long time to realize that I train to live, not live to train. My first few seasons were all about not missing workouts. I was in fantastic shape and had a blast. My wife on the other hand felt like a widow. For about the last 2 years, I have been working on getting my family life more stabilized (wife works nights, kind of like being a single parent most of the time). As long as we are having fun with our new addictions, all is good. I love being addicted to tri. It is one of the few things that do not realy hurt to be addicted to . |

I have an hour & a half to kill tonite while my son is at class in New Haven so i'll be online at the coffee shop reading through the trainging logs and inspiring. So get out there and do some workouts (and log them) so i'll have something to read later Have a good day all !! Never got back to the interesting spin class. Well, i got an email saying i was put into the class from the waiting list (moved up 12 spots in a few hours). Cooked dinner, fed the child (18 yrs old, it's ridiculous i know, but at least he's eating healthy). ran out to the gym got to the class with about 30 seconds to spare. Door shuts, lights go off and i hear the instructor say "hooooow's everybody dooooooinnnnnn" are your "ready toooo goooooooo" i feel like i'm watching some disney teen movie. Is this the High School Musical spin class? Did i miss that in the description? She kind of sang when she was telling us to speed up like she was Mylie Cyrus or something talking to the crowd between a songs or something. It wasn't actually a bad spin class, even the music was okay, but it was funny how it was like she was on stage and we were her audience. She actually said something like "how are you Team Shelton" (luckily, we were in Shelton and not some other town) I felt more like I was at one of my daughter's cheer competitions, Just way over the top for a spin class. At times I felt like I was in a group of 4 year olds and she was a mom hosting a birthday party. |

My most interesting workout this week was one where a seriously (like in his 70s-80s) old dude asked me on a date. I was trying not to laugh because it surprised me so much. I just pointed at my husband and said, "I don't know, why don't you ask him if it's OK?" I swear half the gym stopped what they were doing to watch. They ended up chatting for awhile about fishing and guns and I wandered off. He's a nice enough old dude, and he didn't know I'm married, but come on? He probably has grandkids older than me. That kinda creeped me out. |

(guys have these kinds of things too easy) I enjoy the brick workouts for the two adays. First because I work till midnight and I don't like working out after work and second I don't like getting up in the morning to work out. It also helps my better half with less laundry to clean. The second is were I need to "Harden Up" because as it turns out most Tri's start at 7 am. Hair? My Marine Corps regulation high and tight has never been a problem, sorry ladies. |

Veteran 280 Glens Falls | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Mentor Group - CLOSED It seems like everyone is taking the weekend off?? Or maybe I am the only "Nut" that is up at 5am doing a quick work out before heading off to work! Am not trying to come off as Crazed but am finding a nice routine that works very well for myself. Am finding out that the more I work out and see results the more you are willing to continue the early mornings. The season is getting here very quickly and being prepared is what is going to make a difference in your performance. Plus I really like showing up my boys--gives them some extra drive to get out there and do their very best!! I my have some aches and pains in the morning and perhaps walk with a some sore calfs--but would never let them see it--after all, I am DAD!!! and that is one of the most important titles you"ll ever have--besides MOM (of course) |
