Melyyyyyssssaaaa how did your race go?!

It went great!!!  The OWS training definitely paid off as I surprised myself (and my coach, and my friends) as I was earlyish out of the water, had a bit of a drama in first transition trying to get my top on (after all that training, I should've concentrated on learning how to get dressed!)  Bike was average, reflecting that I haven't spent enough time on it, and my back still a bit doubtful, got passed by a few people who were quicker up the hills.  First ten minutes in the run was hard, got a bit of the stitch which i haven't had for months, but I remembered that it gets better, and it did!  I felt slow though, but not much slower than everyone else fortunately.  The average time for the race is usually 1 hour 11, so I was aiming for 1 hour 15.  So I am very happy with just under 65 minutes

The worst part was that it was all over by 9.30am, and I had to come home and spend all day kid wrangling when I'd much rather have put my feet up and had a rest..

Hope everyone  has had a fab weekend.  I'll post pictures when i get them

Melyssa

Congratulations!  Last week your back acts up and you still finish 10 minutes faster than you were shooting for?  You're one tough triathlete!

NICE JOB MElYSSA or should I say Triathlete MELYSSA?  That was your first one?? You did great. And, fwiw, it's really hard to deal with wet bodies and lycra or other synthetic fabrics re: the top.

CONGRATULATIONS!!

Great job Melyssa! It is always fun to beat your own expected time.

Today I rode the stationary bike in the gym, 40 min and 11,7 miles.

Hi everybody!

My wife is coming home from Florida tomorrow so.... I did the dishes, laundry and bought some groceries.  I hope I have it covered.

I got finished with my swim tonight and it turns out I know the couple in the next lane doing water walking.  He looks at me and says "you make that look easy".  Surprised, I say "I wish it felt easy".  She says "Well, you can't have everything".  "Yeah, I guess you're right", I laugh.  If they only knew.....

Have a great day!
Art

A welcome home sign or note on her pillow or on her bathroom mirror is a nice touch -- or flowers or a little miss you card. Of course that only works if it's heartfelt and knowing you a tiny bit, Art, I bet it would be or you wouldn't have done all the other stuff. Happy wife= happy life, right?

Yesterday I did my first session with the 100 push-ups program, 48 push-ups totally over 5 sets.
I was supposed to go to the gym after that and swim and run, but I never got around to it.
So today around lunch time I did it instead. Swam 750 m in 20 min and ran 3.4 km in 25 min. I almost ran the whole time, walked for about 2:30 in the end.

It was a really slow jog, but outside in the fresh air. So nice.
I hope there will be no more snow now, so spring can finally arrive.

Oh, I forgot, me and some friends are planning on running a 5K in March and then another in April, the first is March 20th and the second is April 18th.

Hiya Manatees!

looks like every one is doing well - i'm officially recovered from whatever i had a couple of weeks agao and am back in the game - the whole thing was a good lesson in listening to my body and giving myself permission to rest

Rebecca - i just about pulled a muscle laughing when i read your post   hope the muscles are all feeing better

Mia - awsome job in all three disciplines - with the run, don't worry about the pace, just keep working on your base and endurance, pace will come over time. and w00t w00t!  on your swim - it's always fun to pass people, but again - don't worry too much about the pace, focus on technique and endurance, pace will follow

Art - welcome back!  a career in small engine repair sounds really exciting

Melyssa - CONGRATULATIONS on your tri!  that is super, and you know what?  even if it had been 14th our of 14 - we would have been just as proud of your accomplisment!

Lynn - great advice for Art on the welcome home

Ah Nutella! It was introduced me to the wonderful world of hazelnuts. And, of course, the wonderful world of Nutella itself.

So I've got some good news and bad news, manatees:

Good news: My swimsuit doesn't quite fit anymore.

Bad news: Neither do any of my shoes! I have to wear 2 pairs of socks with them now to keep them from falling off my feet

Rebecca, hooray on the weight loss!  (A little unsolicited advice, though:  If you ever decide you want to have kids, it is very likley your feet will grow during pregnancy, and may well stay grown.  I thought I was golden through my first pregnancy, but by the end of the second I was permantly in a size larger shoe.  Feh.).  So, is Brian being supportive?  I recall that was a concern of yours in the beginning....

Art, hope you had a lovely reunion.  Where in FLorida was she?

Mia, sounds like you have a fun but busy race schedule ahead!

Lynne, feel better soon!

I was doing so great this month -- really on my way to meeting the 24 hours of cardio in Feb. challenge at the Y -- but then got sick on Sat night -- icky barf bug.  When I was still having heaviness in my chest yesterday, I broke down and went to the doctor.  Have the all clear now -- just strained my esophagus when I was getting sick on Sat -- but I was starting to freak out about my 5K this Sat.  I didn't get the last long run in before the race that I had planned for last Sun, but I just hope I can finish and beat my last 5K time.  We'll see.

Oh, and registration opened yesterday for the race I plan to do for my first.  Yippee!  I am all signed up now, as are my two race buddies.  Really thrilled about that.

Sorry!  Wasn't trying to impugne his honor.  I know what you mean, though, my husband has more faith in me than I do, too (though I don't know about you, but my confidence is at least growing!).   I think I must have read more onto that statement on the heels of your post in the demotivational thread.  I think of your friend's husband and just want to throttle him.  Grrrr.....

Hi everybody!

Thanks for the homecoming tips.  Dineen - She was about an hour from Orlando.  She has 3 sisters that live down there.  I left her a note but it ended up that her flight was delayed and I was home when she got here.  It's nice to have her back.  I'd make a horrible bachelor.

I had my last swim lesson tonight.  I'm not sure if it is because of the lessons or because I've been swimming more but I can see improvement.  It was nice to have some positive feedback from the swimming coach following a lousy run yesterday.

Rebecca - If you're like my wife (who shares your name), you'd be happy for a good reason to buy new shoes.

More snow on the way.....will it ever end?

Biked for 35 min today, almost 12 miles, 11.93. Then after that I did my second session of push-ups, today I got up to 53 in total. I'll see what Friday will give.

Involuntary rest day today. Annoying, since I just made some real progress swimming. And because swimming makes me happy.

Dineen -- It's OK! And believe me, I wanna throttle my friend's husband too. Been wanting to for several years now. Sadly, she'd probably just dump me as a friend and then go hold his hand in the hospital for days. (For people wondering wth we're talking about, here's the post -- but I'm warning you, it IS depressing.)

Art -- I approve of your wife's name. Good choice.
I'm actually kind of annoyed at having to buy new shoes... I like the shoes I have now just fine! Also a little worried that my go-to brands won't fit anymore :/

Hope everyone has a good day today! We in the northeastern U.S. are battening down the hatches for another possible Snowpocalypse...

I'm proud of myself for finishing week 2 of 13 (almost finished anyway, tomorrows bike ride will be last thing this week).
I'm back in the routine of going to the gym even when I don't feel like it. Because once you get there it's not to bad, it can actually feel really good.

I swam 1100 m today in 30 min.

Art - i'm going to go out on a limb (not really )

your improvement in the swim is due to lessons and time in the pool - and last, but certainly not least - your hard work and focus!  now just take what you've learned and keep applying it

great job!

i bet your wife is glad to be home, and i know you are glad to  have her back

and last but not least

will the snow ever end?  we got dumped on as well :/
