I have ITB issues in my knee.  I never tried a roller or heat/ice.  I did wear a band around the top of my knee last year.  This year I tried strecting my ITB and hamstrings just about every day.  In my race last weekd, I brought the band/strap in my pocket just in case and never had to use it.  Do you know how to stretch your ITB?  I have problems with my right one so I put my left foot to the right of my right front (left lrg over the right leg) then lean my hips to the right while leaning my head/shoulders to the left until I feel the ITB in my knee being stretched.

Yep, got that stretch, thanks  (learned the routine when the left side hurt, now the right's acting up). Also helps to lie on my back, extend the leg on the sore side straight across the other as far as I can & have my husband help it stretch. The roller was great, too, though it really hurts when it's particularly tight, so I've been taking it easy. Just wondered if heat or ice would help, too.

thanks tho!

Morning everyone.  Hopefully you are all out training.  Today is a rest day for me. Tomorrow is my first half mary in over a year, thanks to knee issues.  Must say, ART has been magical for me.

I haven't had much BT time.  My 14 yo niece has been with me the last few days.  She lives in the middle of nowhere, so this has been shopping mecca for her.  (I live close to NYC).  Today we are staying fairly close to home.  I am hoping that if she ever gets out of bed this morning I can convince her that a movie is in order this afternoon.

I ran my first 10K today!!!  It was awesome to be able to run a little farther and my knee was fine!  I ran with my husband for the first mile and a half, since he was running the 5K. He did a great job and said he will do more(I don't think he really thinks of himself as a runner, yet, but he's getting there!).

Next month, I am running my first 15K and in June I will be running my first 20K.  Running is pretty great!

I didn't go all out, cuz I didn't want to reinjure my knee, but I did speed up quite a bit from my normal training pace of 12-13 min/mile.  Nice thing about it being my first-I PR'd it, and since I didn't go all out, I can do that on the next one!!

Have a great weekend everyone!

It was especially nice to be able to run in a race this morning, since I had to scrap my 1/2 mary, I was going to be doing next weekend.  (The one in March was training run, and the April was to be the "real" race).

I still don't use "long" & "run" in the same sentence, but did do my 28-minute running group homework yesterday. Best part was my daughter kicking my butt & having to work hard to chase her for the final 3-min interval. Had another better-than-chocolate bike ride today, on the course for my 1st sprint, so that was a huge confidence boost. Wonderfully nice folks from mid-MD tri club led us, with mechanical support from Princeton Sports -- the people I'm meeting who're volunteering time & days off to help us newbies (present company included!) are just wonderful..... After a few hours of quality time with the ice packs, will head to the pool for a tri swim clinic. Fun day!!
