mkarr0110 - 2010-06-26 1:54 PM i know its part of the game but the amount of time ghana is killing is very unsportsmanlike

Totally agree.  And the ref only added 3 minutes of extra time?  Hooey.

But I'm very proud of the USA team.  They showed we're no weaklings anymore when it comes to soccer.  If the USA played the whole game like they did the 2nd half, it could well have been USA 2, Ghana 1.

Wow!  Is it really that negative?  I don't think USA played badly.   What does she mean by "against a Ghana team they should have handled easily"?  Ghana is a strong African team and no one underestimated them.

To be honest, even though my heart wished for the USA to win in this match, in my company poll, I bet for Ghana to advance.  We had the strength, but the Ghanaians are a tad bit more skillful than our boys.

Wow, that's disappointing. I thought the US showed that they are no longer patsies, and a world class team. Only one team can win - and I thought they looked like the better team for the vast majority of the Ghana game - after Feilhaber came in, they were dominant. I also think they had 2 goals taken from them by the officials in the round-robin and there were several times during the Ghana game that Ghana got favorable calls.

All in all, the US was no push over and they played with class (no whinging, no fake injuries) and they never gave up. I don't think there are any teams in the world that want to play the US anymore.

I never expected them to win the whole shebang.  I know they aren't there yet.  I was hoping that they were at least going to make it past round 2.  I was disappointed.  But I saw a LOT of good things in this WC that I haven't seen in the past and bcozian pointed them out.

1.  For the first time we actually have a plethora of offensive threats.  Findley.  Buddle.  Altidore.  Davies.  Gomez.  They are all fast and young.  If they can start to really get their nose towards the back of the net and continue to develop over the next 4 years it will be VERY interesting to see them in 2014.

2.  Interestingly enough, a team that had traditionally been built on defense and hoping to have some kind of counter attack is not weak in the back.  I don't know if the injury to Gooch was a big part of it or not (impossible to know if it would have been different if he were not injured).  But there were other weaknesses.  Clark should not have started.  He gave up the goal against England and he was directly responsible for the first goal yesterday.  I have a feeling that unless something changes, his international career might be over.

3.  Landycakes finally showed up to the WC.  He is what kept us in this tournament and it was nice to see him actively take on that roll.  He took this team on his shoulders and finally lived up to it.  I'm proud of him.  Finally.  Still won't stop me from taking the Mickey out of him when the Galaxy comes to town.

4.  Dempsey has taken on the McBride mantle.  Sacrificing his body and taking on the hits that McBride used to take.  He definitely sacrificed blood, sweat and tears on that field.  He is my wife's favorite and this tournament just solidified her love for him.

And now I get to suffer through another 4 years of the haters saying "see, I told you so, we suck at soccer". *sigh*

Can't wait to watch the rest of the WC though.

Absolutely!  USA being out is not going to stop me from watching.
Germany-England now on.  They are the 2 teams I like.  If both teams perform at their expected levels it will be an exciting game.

It's an exciting game as I expected.

FIFA needs to implement some standards on referees.

agreed. How about only major league referees allowed. English / spanish/italian/german/french refs only. They've dealt with the matches fine, and most countries in the world speak one of those languages anyway?

FIFA allows some inexperience referees this year for "everyone has the opportunity".

England get the lesson they deserve...too slow, lack of technical skill....Germany were a different class today and very good to watch...

As I stated before...England lacks quality world class players...and the sad thing is that there are not many coming through the ranks to improve this predicament

We are the Aston Villa of World football

I somewhat disagree. We have a centre back crisis because of rio injury and its just caused a lack of cohesion at the back.
Going forward we have been strong, and if we were at 2-2 instead of 2-1, would have been different.

I agree with you.  England as a TEAM looked slow.  England as a TEAM did not look creative.  England as a TEAM looked overmatched and outpaced.  One missing member on a TEAM does not cause the whole team to look as outplayed as England did today.  And I was pulling for them.

We've always had problems with england players ont being in a "Team" with england, only being in a team with their club game. It just is so disjointed nad a lack of passion except for maybe john terry.
