I just did my first 3+ hour ride yesterday and have a bit of chaffing in the undercarriage. I used Chamois Butt'r (which I used with 2 hour rides with success) but it just didn't cut it for a 3 hour ride. Tonight I rode for an hour (with nothing like usual for less than 2 hours) and of course re-aggravated what I did yesterday. So my question is, what does everyone use to prevent saddle sores/chaffing on long rides? I see Assos Chamois cream has good reviews. FWIW I ride in Pearl Izumi tri shorts that have a very minimal pad. I'm thinking about some Desoto 400 mile shorts so chime in there as well. Diaper Rash Ointment and the only reason I used that was about 2 weeks before I was mountain biking and had some discomfort (serious amounts of it!) and went panick mode because I have never had a problem before nor ever used anything either. It worked great and helps give your bike seat a nice sheen when mixed with sweat. My saddle looks brand new!!! I rode 3+ last night in my cheap shorts with no protection and had no problem so I guess T.I.T.S. (Time in the saddle) will help strengthen contact points! Good grief. Just trying wearing bike shorts for heavens sake. |

I bet I sleep good tonight! I'm guessing re-entry will take a bit of time. Hope you sleep well tonight no matter what you wear or don't. |

Congratulations!!!! Now you just have to do the math. Thanks! It was definately a big day in the lab yesterday. I was so frustrated last week, but everyone has been supportive and I have realised I am not going to be in trouble if I don't finish my whole project because they hadn't really expected me to finish it all this summer because of how complex it truely is. So, so tedious. Math: I have been divorced from math for the past 5 yrs...we do not get along. Luckily there is some PhD somewhere in the states who's job it is to do the hard math and there is a biostatistician in NY who's job it is to interpret the hard math and determine significance...yay for not having to do hard math... There is a saying in physiology that physiology is to hard for the physiologists...I've never really understood it until this project. The level of physics, math and chemistry involved is just ridiculous. Hahaa. All the guys who have published in this field are biomechanical engineers, biophysicists, etc. I basically read the introductions and then skip to discussion because the discussion of the methods and results is mind boggling! Maybe I should go get a degree in math and physics...or maybe I should just stick to medicine...haha... |

I need to rent/purchase a wetsuit before my 5k OWS on the 17th. WetsuitRental.com is just a 20 minute drive from my place and I am going to go in and try on suits from all the different tri brands. In my experience they all fit a bit differently and I am not sure which I prefer at this point. Rentals there are only 40 bucks and you get the suit for a week and a half. Up to 60 bucks in rental fees can be applied to a purchase. They sell the suits after 8 rentals or you can just buy the one you've rented then and there. Typically the cost is less than half price retail. anyway...I think that I will finally be getting a tri-wetsuit in the next month or two and I will be confident that it is the right one for me...and that I didn't overspend. Very cool. I can't imagine there are many races out your way that you wouldn't want to wear one. If this heat keeps up here, there won't be a wetsuit legal race anywhere on the east coast this summer. BTW, glad you are hanging out with us. Wetsuits in the PNW...they're very good to have for everything but the occasional small lake. Even some of those stay cold from underground streams and such. |

Woohoo...I guess I could have done more, but I decided to cap it at that and do some more kick and pull. I'd really like to get back to doing 20x50m @ 40...but I feel that might be wishful thinking! Haha. Testing out some Aleeve for pain...my drug experiment of the day. I guess it is working? Haha |

We don't have aquaphor in Canada (well at least the last time I checked we didn't have it). My Aunt stocks up when she goes down to Montana. She used to have to stock up on Aleeve, but we finally got that up here. It amazes me the things that you guys have that we don't... |
