Well, I'm out of training for awhile. Went to the doctor yesterday. She didn't like the 'all that wheezing,' so I had to have a bunch of x-rays and stuff. I got a bunch of new prescriptions, and I'm going to be out of commission for awhile.

I'm signed up for 5K races in March, April and May. I'm pretty sure that March one isn't going to happen, but I'm still hopeful on the other two.

Oh well. Life happens. On the plus side, I guess that I can rechannel my 'workout time' into 'computer time.' Oh wait -- I always make sure I have plenty of computer time. LOL

D - sorry to hear that your training has been derailed. Disappointing, I'm sure.

So I'd like to put a little plug out there - if anyone is having breathing issues with swimming, I HIGHLY recommend the breathing in a bowl. Got to the pool today, did a few breaths holding onto the gutter, and then did some 25s with and without pull buoy/paddles. After practicing a bunch yesterday and finally being able to sustain exhaling through my nose, I was able to transfer it to the pool. It still feels awkward (and loud! does the bubbling sound irritate anyone else?) but I definitely felt more relaxed. My plan is to do the pool again tomorrow, focusing on the breathing again, and then to start back with my regular workouts next week, incorporating the new breathing pattern into them. I definitely felt the difference when I was doing the pull buoy/paddles with a count of breathing every 4. Prior to this, I had felt fairly out of breath with the change from breathing every 2 to breathing every 4. Today, felt quite comfortable. So yay!

Oh, man, that stinks. Sorry to hear it. I hope the new meds work wonders for you. Maybe you could do a walk/tiny run on the March 5K as a complete and no compete? Hope you get to feeling better soon!!

Well, another week has flown by and I haven't made it here to the boards. :( I have made it to workouts though. Monday I did a brick of sorts with 20 minute (treadmill) run and then 250 yd. water navigation (not gonna call it swimming ;) ). Was supposed to work out Wednesday, but just didn't have the energy. Was so wiped, so took the day off. Today did a trial run of sorts for the Y tri I'm doing next weekend; 20 minutes riding, 20 minutes running, and 10 minutes swimming. At least now I know I'll be able to get through it. Pretty it's not, but it is....

Thanks for the suggestions on attire and the transitions. I think I'm getting the clothing thing figured out--will know more after I see how the Y tri goes. I found a new swimsuit today at Costco, of all places, Speedo for $20 and it actually fits. I'm jazzed about that. Also just got a pair of shorts, top, and hat in a mail order...gonna try all that out tomorrow.

I still really need to work on the swimming. Thinking I'm gonna sign up for a 6-wk class at the Y and get some of the basics down. I can not drown, but I'm not sure I should say I'm swimming. Ha!

I see we still have folks plagued by injury and illness. Ugh. I'm sorry to see that and hope that everyone is on the road to recovery!

I had one of those less than rewarding swim sessions others have referred to but I survived.  I'm looking forward to my lighter training next week.

Happy Monday everyone! What did you do this weekend?

I went to the Outdoor Adventure Show on Saturday, followed by indoor rock climbing. On Sunday I did an 8km run.

The Y is a great place to take swimming lessons because they're so cost effective! It's a great place to meet other beginner swimmers too.

Maybe it's in the air?? I had one today, too. Not really my fault though. Too many people in the pool today (at 2pm, no less) to get the workout I wanted.   Oh well....at least I did get my run in.

Great perspective! Let us know how your goals come along.

That reminds me, I wrote my goals on the weekend and didn't share.

1. Focus on stress prevention and management.

-apply information from recent readings into real life (The Happiness Project, The Book of Awakening)
-spend a little time each day doing yoga
-spend more quality time with my husband and cat

2. Commit to half marathon training preparation.

-complete at least 3 training runs per week
    -eat real food often
-visualize race day during training (positive visualizations)

3. Build a strong nutritional foundation.

-continue to eat grocery store food more often (healthier and cheaper than take out)
-continue to meal plan a week in advance
    -try several new recipes

See how nicely the challenge this month and our goal setting work together?

I love the challenge forum. It's the main area I spend time on BT.

Well I hit the pool for the first time since my shoulder seperation, it is going to take some getting use to. Was able to put in 35 minutes without stopping so I can't complain to much...actually my first swim since October 2010..Probably will look into learning the breaststroke.. After work was able to get a hour run in....Laughing

My march goal is simple don't get stressed and not to get angry at myself if I can't get a workout in. March is an extremely busy month for me I move house on 23rd, don't leave work until 23rd, have at least to 2 job interviews lined up, 24 hours of driving lessons, a driving test, getting the house spotless for march out (it's a military house) then moving onto the new house on 24th, as well as having tests with the docs!Wow even I didn't realise how much stuff lol scary
