You know when you're really tired when at mile 11 of a 12 mile run when you start up a hill you reach out for your shifter.

Feel free to add your own.

Ranger1188 - 2012-04-05 9:03 AM 30 days left!!! Celebrated with a 3 hour pre-dawn run and 1 hour of ocean swimming- Can't Wait til the big day!! Last 100 mile bike on Saturday followed by a one hour run.  The Peak has been fun but after this 20 hour week I'm looking forward to a little rest- sleep pattern got messed up with the final ramp up in time spent training.  Anyone else have that happen?

Definitely. Consistent sleep has eluded me lately with whacky family schedules and work stuff. I have no problem sleeping when I get the chance though and I'm doing my best to get as much as I can. It's very important, especially during these heavy training times.

Sounds good - If I meet you downtown somewhere, is there enough room to get me and my bike out to SH? Otherwise if I meet you at SH then I'll have to go back to get my car.

Hey Cody, the plan is to have us all meet downtown near the finish area and then my son will drive the 4 of us, bikes, gear, wetsuits, etc out to the lake. He will wait for us to swim, collect our swim gear, and then drop that vehicle back at the finish line. Trying to make it as easy as possible.

Last really hard and long ride is done and dusted. Tomorrow is an hour ride followed by a 13 mile run sub 1:30 pace and my big stuff is done with a 22+ hour week of training.

March in the books.  Training going pretty much as planned through week 26 of 30.  Feel healthy (for a 41 year old) Another tough weekend.  I did a 20 miler in Friday, 110 on the bike today with a short transition run, and will do a bike/run brick tomorrow.

Oct - 50.75 hours (S-11.00, B-23.75, R-16.00)

Nov - 52.25 hours (S-12.00, B-25.25, R-15.00)

Dec - 52.50 hours (S-11.75, B-25.75, R-15.00)

Jan - 60.50 hours (S-13.25, B-26.75, R-20.50)

Feb - 67.00 hours (S-13.25, B-31.50, R-22.25)

Mar - 71.75 hours (S-12.75, B-37.00, R-22.00)

April MTD - 20.00 hours (S-3.50, B-10.00, R-6.50)

With the taper week I had two weeks ago leading up to Texas 70.3 I'm debating on a shorter taper for IMSG.  Maybe 2 weeks versus 3.  Not sure yet.

I figure just under an hour for the swim, 5:12 or so for the bike, and a 3:20 run. Should get it done somewhere in the 9:30's with transitions.

Great.  It's a dead flat course so not a real prep for IMSG, but it was a nice test for the wheels.

Whew. My peak week is now in the books. I've felt good all the way through this build the last four weeks, but the last few days I've definitely felt the cumulative effect of it all. My long run today was on very tired legs, but I'm healthy (knock on wood) and looking forward to dialing it back to let my body bounce back leading up to the race.

I hope it's going well for you all! Cheers,

Brad

This may have been discussed, but does anyone know the total elevation gain for the bike course? Thanks and good luck to everyone!

I have seen everything form high 4000's to mid 5000's. Most of those were done using Garmin 310XT's which rally aren't good at estimating elevation gain as they do it based on GPS coordinates. The new 901XT which I have been using this week actually has a built in altimeter and is very accurate. I did that big ride last Friday with the 310 and it showed 9200 feet of climbing. I did the same ride with the 910 and it gave 7800 feet of climbing. So I suppose what I am getting at is throw out the really high numbers and reduce by say 15%. I think is likely closer to 5000 feet. I'll let you know on May 6th.

Ok - that sounds great. I really appreciate you letting me tag along. If I get dropped on the bike, I'll just see you on the run somewhere. I'll email you mid-week to get exact meeting time/place.

The rumor raging around St. George is that this will be the last year. Info is from multiple people in high places. The city has the option to have it back next year but as a 70.3. It was fun while it lasted. Can't imagine the city turning down the 70.3. Lots of dollars at stake.

Last 120 mile bike today with an estimated 6100 feet of gain. Definitly ready to start slowly shutting it down. Was scheduled to do it last week but I had a mild cold(I am a life long severe asthmatic so pushing the envelope with even a mild cold can land me iin the ER really easily, so HTFU doesn't apply here)

This is my peak week and thankfully have an extra day off work to help it go down easier-just onee of the many benefits of having a former RAAM racer/former national champion as a boss

I think that is where it will go if they are planning on another IM. Vegas was in the running with St.G originally when we got the nod.

Interesting to hear the rumour mill, glad I'm getting a shot at the toughest IM in the US before it goes to a 70.3.

On an unrelated note, I'm out with a cold which I picked up Saturday. A few days of rest and then it will be back onto the trainer.
