You have one of the coolest jobs on the planet, I do believe. And, I too, like snakes...haven't always, but have come around in the last few years. Lizards are extremely cool characters, too.

I'm one of the lonely folks not on FB by choice, but sometimes lurk on my DH's account to see what my son is up to. Which, by the way ----GOT HIS DRIVER'S License today!!  Not sure if we need another teenage boy on the roads, but he's a pretty cautious kid. THose DMV peeps are sooooo serious.

Congratulations! (I think ... )

Most lizards are super cool ... in fact, all lizards but one type (BLECH SHUDDER BARF) ... I should get help for that, but I'm too scared to.

Fun day at work today too! I got to help our education dept. "fly" their hawk! Due to his aptitude to flying away, we take a Harris' Hawk out on a creonce to fly him and train him to do specific behaviors--Its cool cause I get to have a hawk land on my hand! Its also cool to watch him fly up and do a flip in the air to catch food bits that we toss him...Sorry, I love to talk about my job--I'm like a goofy schoolgirl about it!Embarassed

Triathlon is but part of a life well lived--which enhances the former. Again, you have the coolest job in the whole universe. In fact ... hmmm ... I might just have to blend you into the protagonist of my novels ... she's busy killing people but needs a real "cover" job in the sequel, and since all the money from her hits goes to creating nature sanctuaries ...

I love snakes and it makes me happy to see them, too; I encounter them regularly both in the water and around my home/yards.

That would be cool! I totally would read that!  This concept totally appeals to me....wait....I guess that doesn't sound completely normal....I mean...I am an exceedingly avid reader, and I would pick up the book as the concept sounds very good--as in I would not lose interest!! Never mind, that still sounds a bit weird...I like the idea...'nuff said.Tongue out

I agree, super cool job...but snakes?!?!?! Eeeeeeeeeeeeks!

It's funny because as a kiddo I had no problem with snakes. My dad and I would go "hunt" them (which meant lift rocks to find them) all the time. Nowadays I am a huge baby and get to the highest point possible if I see one.

Haha, my mom was the same way, but then when I took in a wonderful snake who was about to be homeless, she slowly began coming around-she is still nervous, but a WHOLE LOT better than before...The snake in question was only a 6.5 foot long boa, but she had the BEST disposition--she actually just was taken in by our education dept. at the zoo and is the star of their stage shows! (though occasionally upstaged by the baby gator!)

I just can't imagine coming-around to a 6.5' snake! I think I would have to do a 12 step program and begin with a very small one and work my way up.

Wow, I got out of work early today and actually felt like I have a life.  I got in a tempo swim and noticed that swimming 500 yards is getting easier. Laughing  Then I went home and did my strength training.

Sorry about messing up the Manatee table!

---She's now about 7 feet....No I understand, I do believe that we have sort of evolved to be phobic of snakes--if you look at primates, who tend to be close to us genetically, they all have major issues with snake, so I think its kinda normal...besides, when you figure that the really scary venomous ones are THAT deadly, it does make anyone think twice about all snakes (though as a keeper and 'educator' of sorts, I must point out, most snakes are not only safe to be around/handle, but beneficial for keeping rodent populations in check).

The same goes for gecko keeping insects in check Yanti! (Sorry, I couldn't help myself!!!Laughing

Me personally, I have a thing about centipedes--THEY FREAK ME OUT!!!!! We talked about having some on exhibit at the zoo (like the scary foot long Vietnamese species!!!), and I told the curator (my boss), that if we did, they would definitely escape, and consequently come into contact with the bottom of my foot (or the fire extinguisher), so it would be better to not even try...so we wont get any.

Not at all--your bit would have kept working no matter what, just with the old username. But I'll never forget your dog's name or face

Great job on the swim progress!

Did my assigned workout today--15 miles on the bike in an hour--high rpms, without raising the heart rate TOO much! Great ride--lots of birds seen on the river, lots of sunlight and not a cloud to be seen--apparently Sacramento CA has not realized that it is still winter....not that I am complaining!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH you said the G word! (I actually had to move it off the reply) Does everybody know about this phobia of mine?

Insect control is the one reason I am able to tolerate their presence, though. Because if there's anything I hate and fear more than geckos, it would be repeated bouts of mosquito-borne viruses.

Its been kinda hard to miss, as it has been mentioned in a 'few' other postsUndecided....its okay, everybody has their one thing....Don't worry, I shall not mention their name again! Although, that has been the plan for a while, to get myself a tattoo of the Tokay ___ variety--very realistic looking too, snarling off of whatever body part I have it done on....I still haven't decided where, which is why I don't have it done yet... And I also am now considering getting tattoos of lizards (primarily basilisks) swimming, running, and biking---just cause it would be awesome (basilisks are the type of lizards known as 'Jesus Christ Lizards' because they will run across water on their hind legs--sort of fitting for triathlon lizards...

That's the thing. I love every other creature on earth--every other lizard, centipedes, roaches (I had a pet roach), snakes and yes, even typhoid bacteria (just not near me, but they fascinate me in labs).

I can't explain it. But they horrify and disgust me.

I cannot even discuss Kate's pending tattoo ... I had a gorgeous tri piglet in my room once, we're talking coach for two national tri teams ... and he had one of those tattoos up his side ... I made him put a shirt on.

... except for the basilisks, which I think is tremendously cool.

Holy S#@/, did you say foot long centipedes?  I'll thank you in advance for the nightmare I may have tonight.  I'm ok with snakes as long as they keep their distance, but spiders totally freak me out.  I got bit on my ankle by one a few years back that made a nasty hole in my leg.  I hate wood ticks, too.

See!? I am not the only one! Smile

The honey badger pic reminds me: During my second tri last season (and my second tri ever...) I was having issues keeping my energy going...the bike route was along a somewhat busy rural road, and as I rode along I kept seeing roadkill (ick), and for some reason, the majority of them were badgers; which made me think of this:

http://youtu.be/EIyixC9NsLI

So...that 'song' then became my race mantra, and every time I ride and my mind wanders, I immediately start thinking "badger badger badger...."--and then I start laughing and other riders think I'm a bit insane!Laughing even more so when I start singing it.

I just had to share that....

Made a trip to secret gym tonight and found that some jokester locked the guest door after staff hours!  THE NERVE!! Luckily Mr. Iowa State was cool to let me in on his pass.  With all of my free adventures i'm becoming quite a regular in the guest log.

Ran for probably a total of 26 out of 30 minutes but made sure that if my pace got below a jog I upped the incline to max.  On a scale of 1 to 3.14 on how I felt during my treadmill run tonight i'd have to say I registered at a 3 - which is AWESOME!

I took control of my eating today.  I allowed myself a .25 helping of skittles from the charity dispenser around lunch and because I had a covert operation (Read: phone interview with another company) during lunch, all I was able to squeeze in was a bag of Indian Magic Masala lay's chips.  Good luck finding them if you don't live in a highly populated indian community.

For dinner I kicked and had a handful of strawberrys, low sodium V8 can, a cup of V8 fusion strawberry banana, a big bowl of spinach + light strawberry vinegrette dressing, half a leftover enchilada.  What can I say - I love strawberrys.

Thanks jmkizer for the awesome playlist on spotify!  Hope I can rival the quality in what I share back.

Joel

Ha ha, I love this.  When I did Racine 70.3 last summer, my two favorite signs during my run (death march) was a sign that read, "Be the Honey Badger".  The other favorite sign was a life size cut out of the dos equis guy with him holding a sign that said, "stay hydrated my friends".
