Does anyone use compression garments for training?

I just bought some 2XU full length compression tights for running. I'm hoping they will help to keep my calves and hammies from tightening up. Looking forward to trying them out in a week or two.

Good Morning Team.

Came into work this morning to plan some lessons and I had to get out of the house - real estate agent is doing a viewing today - I hope this place sells soon.

Going to try to get a swim in this afternoon.

Simone - I use compression sleeves for my calfs sometimes and what else is there to do this weekend besides the SUPER BOWL! I don't have a favorite in this one but I am going to route for San Fran - I don't like Ray Lewis.

Enjoy the weekend everyone - IM plan starts on Monday Smile and I have to say, I am looking foward to the structure again even though the time management skills are going to be tested.

I have a pair of ZOOT compression calf sleeves that I sometimes put on after a long run to help with recovery.  They work great!

As for this weekend, I just got home from a 2 hour cycling class that I'm doing with my tri team.  My quads are screaming at me right now!  And a 6 mile run is on tap for tomorrow before the big game!!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Happy weekend everyone!

I do a yoga routine 2-3 times/week along with some hip opener exercises and IT band rolling.  I started doing a Runners World 20 minute core routine again this week.  Works really well and doesn't take much time.  Stretching is always done after activity for me.  Walk before running to warm up and do a good five minutes high cadence spinning in the SCR before bike workouts.

I also do unilateral breathing.  Bilateral is very difficult for me but I am going to give it another shot starting next week.  We have a lot of wind chop on the lakes at times and I think it would be beneficial to at least be able to breathe unilaterally on my off side (left).  Much more relaxed breathing 2/4/6 on the right side.  I think it must be a timing issue on my left side?

KC-the start of another journey!  I don't start until the week of 2/25.

Nice work Troy!  What are you using to log your workouts?  I would be curious to see what you got going on and maybe give me a little motivation to get my butt in gear.  Keep it up.

Hi Everyone,

I attended a triathlon clinic Friday night and Saturday.  I was looking for some help on my swimming and for the price for help on the swim I could attend the entire clinic.  Friday night was nothing but swim focus.  Oh boy.....you think and it feels like you are doing everything correct but once you see yourself on video it says something entirely different.  I have lots to work on in the pool and that is where I hope to improve upon.  Really didn't learn much more on Saturday but it was fun meeting new people in the sport.

My coach and I had a mis-communication as she thought I was planning on doing HM in March and I thought she told me to skip it.  Now I know what she is pushing me so much on my run.  Now I have to fun a HM that I want to do.

I am rooting for the Ravens ONLY because my oldest dog is named Raven.  (We adopted her so we didn't name her.)  I can't stand Ray Lewis either.

I use compression's for recovery.  I have the socks and the tights and they really do help with the recovery.

Have a great week!

Kathy (KTC)

Good luck in your IM training KC.

Happy Monday everyone! Started the morning with a short interval run. 1 mile warm up the .5 mile speed with .25 mile recovery. Only had time for 3 intervals before my cross-fit prayer group. Hitting the pool at lunch today. Let's hope my arms hold up!

As I was brushing my teeth this morning I was reminded of an article I recently read that brought up a great point that went something like this:

Pushing yourself harder and farther is kind of like trying to get that last bit of toothpaste out of the toothpaste tube. The first step is believing that there is more toothpaste left.  The second step is squeezing it out.  Somehow you can always get a little more to keep going - you just have to have faith that it is deep within you.

Hopefully that will get your week going!

Yesterday was the last hard work out for a week.  3 out did 8 flat, 3 hard did 625s which was kind of slow but the wind and cold and not being able to get loose were factors.  Overall nothing really felt fluid.  Then somehow magically my way back was a .4 miles shorter than my way out but split 755s

This will be a nice easy recovery week before starting to build again.  May be able to make it out to Joe's on Saturday.  930 is all kinds of an early start though.

I love how you think 6:25 is slowSurprised.

Yes I agree 9:30pm is way early and I was kind of pissed they did that but they always push the start time back depending on how the room is.  They are expecting a good crowd with this Dee Jay Silver.  He is on tour with Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan and a big deal in the country world.  I would never go out to a bar just to see a DJ haha so I am curious to see how the night goes.  That would be great if you can make it out. Let me know.

**Just found out - Free Coors Light from 8pm-9pm so I guess that gives a reason to come out early haha.**

Hi all,

I'm finally back from Guatemala to the great white north after a week of dental work. From 90's, back to single digits fahrenheit!!! I did get some running in, but have to get going again today as its T-minus 7 months until IM- WI. Could have worked out yesterday, but had to recover after a long day of travel on Saturday. Have to get out of this funk. Ate healthy. Will try to run a 9 miler on Saturday in Green Bay for Valentine's Day (depending on the weather). Anyone else doing Seroogy's 15K???

Kathy - As far as swimming bilaterally, I would think it would help a person stay "on-line" better during a long course. Good job on the swim!

KC - IM - MT sounds like a beautiful course. Would like to do that one day.

Tim - As a dentist, I can really relate to your toothpaste tube analogy. : )

Simone - I was actually thinking of buying a compression tri suit myself (after losing the "muffin-top" belly). I wonder if it really helps, also.

BTW: Glad the Ravens won. Can't stand Jim Harbaugh's over-intensity, and complaining.....

Probably a lot of fratty bozos and college girls especially with the free coors.  It is usually bad news if I try and start that early at this stage in my career, good thing it is an easy week.  That place is pretty close to where I stay now though and Saturday my roommates girlfriend is usually around meaning any excuse to get out for most of the night is a plus.

Haha, running the 3 at about the same split and HR that I was running 2 so it wasn't bad when put in perspective.  It was just one of those runs where it felt like I was carrying 10 lb weights on my ankles.  And it was miserable out.

Hi Team,

hope everyone is having a great week.

KTC - nice swim!!

KC - love the countdown, hope work is kind to you so you can fit all your workouts in!

Timmer - welcome back!

I've been crook and a bit slack for a few days, but put in a good day today, did hill repeats on the gym trainer to avoid the heat, then put in a solid strength session. I think the rest did me good. It is interesting that the slimmer I get the stronger I get and hopefully that will mean the faster I get also! I've lost 10kgs (22lbs) now, but would like to lose at least another 10kgs.

I'm heading out for a run on Friday with the new compression tights, the achilles is feeling good, so this will be a good test. Got my first race on a week from Sunday, just a local tri club sprint, but long enough for me at this stage, really looking forward to it too. I want to PR my time from last year which was pretty sad, haha.

I found another running buddy too. The gym manager where I go, who is also a good friend is keen to take me out to do some fartlek sessions, she is a good runner and an ex army PT instructor, so I know she'll flog my butt and get me moving, haha. I just need to find someone to ride with now and I'll have all my bases covered for Shep 70.3.

Anyway folks, hope you are all pumping out killer sessions, stay warm and safe. Smile

Simone - Way to go losing 22 lbs!!! I've only lost 3 in the last month, and was feeling good about that, but now I'm very envious. ; )

kcgolf - thanks for the workout updates. Its very motivating.

I ran 5 miles before work this morning, but have to get on the bike tonight. KC, I like the clock countdown, and wish I could have mine for IM - Wisconsin on my screensaver. Funny thing is, the clock is always running, even when we don't have an upcoming race. I know, that's an obvious observation. Sorry....

Lets go Team RFP!!!

Timmer

PS: Will be running in the Seroogy's 15K Valentine's Run in Green Bay this Saturday. Just ordered some Sugoi Subzero running tights, and will see how they work this Saturday in the cold outdoors!

Good Morning again Team.

I forgot to mention this in my previous post. I had the whackiest dream last night - I am thinking some may call it a nightmare. I was dreaming that I was doing an open water swim - it might have been a race, I am not sure because there were several others around me. The swim was at the mouth of the Detroit River and Lake St.Clair which is a small lake between Lake Erie and Lake Huron and this is my normal open water swim area. Anyway, we were out there swimming and I bump into a dead body - some guy just floating there - I poke my head up, give him a shake - no response, some other swimmers come up we decide he was dead and we also decide we would come back and look for him when we finished our swim - LOL. It was weird, I was not scared or anything.

Does anyone else dream of triathlon races and weird stuff like that or am I the only weird one Undecided?

I thought about it for a while and I started thinking this was a dream I should have had last year before I swam in the Hudson, although I know there are a few dead bodies and other objects floating around in the Detroit River Surprised.

Have a great day team.
