Hey Hilary!  Better late than never.  Re: your ride, I love riding with people who are more experienced than I am, it's a great opportunity to learn and get stronger.  No surprise that last weekends race took a lot out of you--it's a big distance and you pushed it!

As for workout intensity, the low effort stuff is really important.  If every workout is all in you will always be worn out and won't know what you are really capable of.  A good mix is best!

MONDAY CHECK IN

Great weekend weather wise here in TX. Sunday I drove to Galveston Island (30 minutes from where I'm staying) to check out the lone star tri course - looks like it will be a good time. I found a nice park just west of downtown Houston, close to the Tri on the run triathlon shop. Hundreds of people out running and walking and riding bikes - unfortunately another 30 minutes away from where I'm staying. I'm gonna hit that park this weekend to get some riding time in on the road - too much traffic where I'm at (but I can see the NASA Space Center's launching platform from my balcony)! And how 'bout them Houston Rockets? 22 straight wins!!!!

And Pete will like this - I learned the Texan style donkey call

"EEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!"

First day at work today - I'm the new plant manager! Got lots of work ahead of us but we'll be able to do great things soon!

Eeeeyyyaaaawwwwwwlllll!!!  Nice.  So what type of production are you overseeing?  Hmmm, the Rocket's eh?  With the Bucks struggling I bet it will be easy to be a fan there!  (not that I'm into NBA.  My beloved Marquette Warriors play in the first round of the NCAA tourney tomorrow at 1:30 cst!

FentressJET - 2008-03-17 7:57 PM I'm baaaaack. I have not been feeling good, but I am tired of sitting around and feeling sorry for my self. So, I downloaded a modest sprint plan and I am going to tough it out - feeling bad or not. Sorry for disappearing for a bit, but I'll try to participate more. If you see me not working out, kick me around a bit. I think I might need it.

Eric!!!  Glad to hear from you.  Good for you getting back on track!

Hey gang, let's all give Eric an inspire!

Thanks for the inspires guys. I do have a question about biking. I was reading in Triathlete mag and was noticing that some of the pros race with 2 differnet wheel sizes. 19c in front and 23 in back. I wonder how much that helps. Tires are supposed to give you the most bank for the buck in terms of speed. What do you think?

Glad to hear you are back.  I've been struggling with some pretty heavy fatigue this week and hoping it will pass soon.  I'm thinking I overtrained - not necessarily time but intensity.

Thanks! I appreciate the thoughts....  I feel leike I 've been slacking - I know I was sick but I hate missing time....

ANyway everyone  - I'll be semi outta touch for a week - or not depends on internet connection in the DR - "see you" in a week..

Happy Saturday Group.

Was a nice day out today!  PeterAK is digging out of a foot of snow and I got a sunburn today biking and running.  Me being the pale white yankee from up north, it wasn't hard to do.  (Didn't mean to rub it in there Pete)

Anyway - 1 week until my first tri of the season.  First OWS tri also.  I don't own a wet suit but I'm not going to worry about it.  Water temp should be 72ish they say.

Felt good to get on the bike today and actually ride outside.  Averaged almost 18mph and that was through Houston city streets w/ lots of stop and go.  Hopefully I'll be able to go all out at the tri and get 19 - 20mph which I'll need to do to make up for my sink swim and crawl run!

So now that I'm bachloring it while my family is still back in Wisconsin, I'll sit and drink beer and watch basketball tonight.

Have a great Easter Holiday everyone!

"THANK YOU EASTER BUNNY - BAWK, BAWK!"

Yup, it's true, I dug out from under the foot of snow we have gotten in the last day. It was nice heavy stuff too. So...

Dear Snowblower,

I love you.

Love,
PeterAK

I'm frazzled. Work, wedding, general stuff. I forgot an appointment with a client this morning... NOT GOOD! I realized an hour after I was supposed to be at the office while I was shoveling the front step. Fock.

So we have been trying to register at Home Depot for a few days. Friday night's highlight was over three hours at HD, writing down SKU numbers to register as they don't have the nice laser gun that "fun" stores like crate and barrel have. After all that, we have gone to the customer service desk THREE, count 'em, THREE times, and we are still not registered. You would think they would make this easy, we are trying to spend a bunch o' cash there.  We're having a "home improvement shower" rather than a traditional shower.  Should be fun.  Bottom line though, I'm looking forward to June 1, when we are married and heading on a honeymoon type trip somewhere...

I didn't work out today, other than shoveling. My mom came to town for Easter and we went to taste our wedding food, which was good, and then watched basketball. My Marquette Warriors fought the good fight, but lost by one point in overtime to Stanford and the 7' tall Lopez twins. Great game, just wish it would have had a different outcome.

We're supposed to get a few more inches of snow on easter Sunday, if we go over 3" we will top 100" for the year, and at the moment we are already in the midsts of the SECOND SNOWIEST WINTER EVER!!! Makes me want to go on vacation with Davewithnumbers!

That's all I got. Going to church and Lori's fam for Easter tomorrow. Hoppy easter y'all!

Sorry about the snow Peter. But in July and August, I'll be wishing I was up North!

x2 - I'll be pining for the highs of 85 in the summer.  Maybe I'll visit and make a trek to the DTC?  what?  you never know!

No kidding we are quiet!  I did a minor brain dump on my blog yesterday.  Reprinted with permission from myself, here it is:

I haven't been all that talky on my blog lately. Been stressed with work and wedding planning. I think the work stuff is under control and the wedding stuff, well, control still eludes me a bit there with only 66 days to go. Meeting with the guy at Men's Warehouse this afternoon to figure out what my guys are going to wear. Lori has once again proven worthy of my love as she let me register for ANYTHING I want at Home Depot. Sawzall, check. Pneumatic tools, check. Gas weed wacker, check. Good stuff. BUT, Home Depot has the Worst. Registry. System. Ever. We had to write down all the SKU numbers and then have the folks at the service counter enter them into the system. It took FIVE trips to Home Depot to get the registry set up. Now we still have to go back and pretend to want to get out own registry to make sure it works. I can't believe they haven't gotten this system down to a science like Crate and Barrel, which, by the way, was sooooper easy to register at (and Lori let me register for some totally kick knives).

Also feeling like a totally different person than I did the day after Ironman. Need to remind myself that just because I did it once doesn't mean I could toe the line any day and succeed. Wildflower is a mere 39 days away and it is going to hurt. Last year I raced tired there and went slower than the year before. I'm terrified that I'll go slower yet this year... Progress=good, regression=bad. High Cliff is 88 days away and it is going to hurt as I need to go faster than Lori's brother. There is an unspoken rivalry there. Or at least I think there is as I have the faster HIM time for now.

I guess it all comes down to prioritization. Need to just knock out task by task related to the wedding planning and work responsibilities, and make sure to block out time for workouts.

Now you know where my head is at!

It's almost April.  Can we GET EXCITED???

I had a kick azz session on the CT last night.  234 watts average for 90 minutes.  That's my highest for the season, and I feel fresh as can be today.  That's rather exciting!

I've been pondering hiring a coach again for the year.  Not because there is a huge event on the calendar, but for the main benefits I got last year:

1. Accountability
2. Perspective

I love racing but sometimes getting off my booty to train is hard when there is so much else going on.  Having someone keep an eye on the big picture is helpful to me.  I have the habit (like most other ameteurs I presume) of going hard when I feel good and backing off when my body isn't putting out well.  Having a coach with a training plan I know is custom for me makes it easier mentally to just do the workout that is prescribed.

There's my take on coaching in a way too oversimplified nutshell.
