Here is our intro for 2012 new mentees....we will see who we get...should be fun as always...remember you were all new here once...even Billy -- play well with the new folks....we probably won't see any here for a couple of weeks....

Name:  Left.right.repeat aka Bryan

Story:  This is my fifth year as a mentor.  My group will be a little different from many of them on here and I want to explain how.  I have a couple of folks from my first group, a couple from my second group, several from my third year and some from the 4th year.  Then we will be adding those of you who might be interested.  The group is male and female, evenly divided, from Canada and Boston to Louisiana and Texas.  All middle aged (don't tell them I said that)....my 50 year mid life crisis in 2009 was my first Ironman (chronicled in the book - You Are An Ironman) - I finished IM Arizona in November 2009 and 2011.  Two of our 2010 members did IM Louisville and one of our other members completed IM Arizona in 2010 but don't let that intimidate you...several just did their first sprint in 2008, 2009 or 2010.  We are a welcoming group that is looking to add some new blood and excitement.  Join this group and benefit from several wicked smart mentors.  If you are looking for experienced Ironman finishers in your group, we may be for you - OR - If you are just starting in the sport, we are a fun welcoming group evenly divided between men and women and we are ALL a lot of fun.  FYI, there are female IM finishers and male IM finishers - we don't discriminate.

Family: Married with an adult daughter

Current Training/2012 Races:  Half Marathon, Olympic triathlon, Half Ironman, Ironman and other epic endurance events.

2010 Races:  Disney half marathon, America's Run half, Texas Independence Relay (203 miles), CapTexTri, Austin Triathlon, LiveStrong Challenge, Tour de Cure, Ironman Florida and a few others.

2011 Races - Austin Half Marathon, Tour de Cure, CapTexTri, Make a Wish Ride, Toyota US Open Triathlon, Ironman Arizona.

Weightloss: 40 pounds in less than 36 months - keeping it off

What makes me a good mentor:  The other people in the group....LOL....we have fun.  Seriously, we have history.  Once you are in the group and we close it, we will move you all to our base group where there are over 260 pages of posts equalling over 4000 messages which you will want to read....there's history in there and a TON of answers to your questions.

So, fire away, all questions are appropriate and will be answered....come join us....tell me who you are and why you want to join our team.

Bryan

Hi everyone - had a lovely Christmas and New Years holiday but back to the salt mine today. Managed to get in 2 short runs last week plus I (finally) got my bike - Sebastian - onto my trainer and I did a very short ride to make sure that everything was operational. Today I renewed my membership for the campus pool so no more excuses - I am ready to get serious about preparing for at least one race in 2012. Thinking seriously about returning to the Lobsterman Oly (Freeport, ME) in September. It is a great event and within a days drive from Fredericton.

Received You Are An Ironman for Christmas and finished reading it over the holidays. Great book - except the only LRR mentee mentioned was Mav. FBP was hoping to see his name in print!! Enjoyed the youtube interview of the author on the Late Late Show. Host Craig Ferguson is a fave of mine but I rarely get to watch it.

Cheers all,

Peter

Mark I just used old running shoes.  A shoe with more traction would have helped in the mud...maybe??  A trail run is so much fun!

My last workout of 2011 was a 2 hour bike on the trainer New Year's Eve.  I used the spinerval Have Mercy II.  I begged for mercy. LOL

New Year's Day I did the Hard Core 100 spinerval.  A 5:30 trainer ride!!  So today was a rest day!!  Ahhhh!!!  Happy New Year Everyone!!

FBP - I put everyone I have ever known in the book. Editors suck. Not really I just couldn't get everyone in. Glad you liked the book. I will ensure you are in the next one.

happy new year everyone!

I got exactly 1 (one) finish line in 2011 and that is one more than i have gotten ever!

I recieved some new running shoes and a Garmin forerunner 610 with a hr monitor.

edit: btw my hr for my first 2 runs is in the 160 range.....anyone have a good link for figuring out where I should be?

My main goal for 2012 is to run at least a mile everyday (2 days in, so far so good). we have a family challenge coming up on Feb 5th in which some are doing a 5k and some the half marathon. I was dumb and signed my name to the half marathon..... we'll see how that goes!

I just turned 45 so that puts me in a new age group.

onward and upward!

What are your plans for 2012????

I am going to use what I have learned this year to help train all year for all types of racing.

I am going to do HIM Oceanside, some club duals and tri's, some other shorter Tri's.

I am hoping to do the Best in the Desert series. (ATV Racing) Its long distance and I am going to do it solo.  The first race is this sat. and I am so out of shape. Its a 160+ mile race in Parker, AZ.

I want to run under 5min. for 1600m. is one of my goals for this year.

Looks like fit crossed 11 finishlines in 2011.  That includes his first HIM. Whoo hooooooo.

2012 is a really crowded scheduled.  Everything is supposed to support my big day in November.
So I'm starting the winter out with a local Time Trial series of 6 races.  Not sure if I should count these in the list.  Then I'm going to run 3 HM's.  No full marathons this year unless you count that 26.2 mile cool down around Tempe.

I need to learn a bit about drafting, bumping and cornering.  Hey Billy - Open water swimming is just like NASCAR.  Where did that come from?  Fit's 2012 schedule has dates for three OWS swim races.  But I'm not counting OWS swim finishlines.

In ANTICIPATION of 140+ miles of fun, my tri schedule includes, in order, a sprint, 3 Oly's, a HIM and IMAZ.  Thats the plan for success in my first Ironman.  Only the last finish line counts this year.

BTW, up that race count for me as I forgot factor in the "Imagine No Malaria 5k" I am helping with.  Not sure I am running it but I am helping out the RD.  Its a whole bunch of races (on the same day) being put on by the United Methodist Church.  For Baton Rouge the RD has put on a ton of races and I am just acting as a grunt and trying to learn.
