Rudy, I am so sorry for your loss of Cammie. It is easy to see how much she was loved for her 11 years. I am sure you have many happy memories to help get you through this difficult time. From one dog person to another, you're right- the final moments are the worst.

RIP Cammie Bleakley  8/1/00-11/16/11

We had to put my beloved Labrador down yesterday, her kidneys had failed and she was getting worse every day.  For a non dog person, this would normally be no big deal, but i am a dog person.  This sucked....major.  I got her as a birthday gift when i was 30, she was my best friend, a loyal companion and a member of my family. She was my original daughter.  Words cannot describe the loyalty a dog shows it owner, their love is unwavering, their trust complete, they become a part of you, and when they go, they take a piece with them,  I was there till her very last breath, as i watched, with my wife, the Dr put a needle in her front leg, a simple sedative to keep her calm. Then he put the final needle in the rear leg, a strong anesthesia, it lasts only mere seconds, the Dr listening to a failing heartbeat, then it is over. I am not a crier, have not cried in some 20 years, yesterday i was blubbering little girl. My wife and i pet and comforted her as she passed, it was one of the most difficult things i have ever had to do, but i owed Cammie that last act, I wanted us to be the last thing she remembered before she went, to know i loved her unconditionally till her last moment, like she did for me for 11 and a half years, i owed her that, it was the least i could do.

My human daughter will not really remember her, she is too young, she had just started to call her by her name instead of Dodo, she looked for her briefly this morning, then moved on. While i ran this morning, every time i heard a leaf rustle it reminded me of her nails on the hard wood floor, i looked in the picture window when i was finished, the place she would normally be sitting, on the top of the couch, waiting patiently for my return, she was not there this morning, i cried.

I swore I felt her nose on my hand last night, letting me know she was next to me on the floor of the bed room, like she always did "dad i am here and watching out for you"   Non dog people will not understand, i was a dog person, you don't have to, i do.

3 words......This sucks balls

sorry man.  being the husband of a dog person i can certainly appreciate what you are going through.

Morning, peeps.  Up early for a run.  May try to squeeze in some core/yoga later.  I'm still fighting a sore throat and cough, so I'm really trying to take it easy.  Skipped my swim last night thinking that the extra rest might help.

Off to a preschool music performance....

???

So the plans for the long ride this weekend are out.  I may go for a decent run Sunday morning to try and flush all the toxins I'm bound to ingest while tailgating tomorrow.  Sunday afternoon I'm going to be getting CPR certified and then I should be able to take my NASM test next week and I'll be done with that.  Also need to do some research on where I should switch my gym membership to.  I love the YMCAs in my area, but at $89ish for a family membership we really don't utilize to it's fullest I should switch and put that money towards other things, like IM entry fees.

After hanging out at IMTX in 2012 you're going to have no choice but to sign up for 2013.

The more I look at this system the more I think it would be more beneficial than weight training for almost any athlete.  May pick one up.

We use something similar in that boot camp workout I'm going to. I don't think it's TRX branded, though, but it's a suspension strap. It's amazing what the few workouts I've done on it will do for you.

Absolutely true!  I volunteered at IMKY in 2009, and was in line early the next morning volunteering for 2010.  A week later I wondered what I had done.  You get so caught up in it, it's almost impossible not to.

OK so my paleo plan has turned into paleo-ish.  I went out to dinner with some friends for a belated birthday, and the waitress brought me a slice of carrot cake for dessert.  At least it had carrots in it.  Oh, and the beers were super cheap.  $3.50 for a large pint of Stella Artois & Sweetwater Blue.  I split the carrot cake with my 3 girlfriends, but the 2 beers were all mine.  Dinner was grilled salmon with spinach & mushrooms.  So that was ok.

I've cut back significantly on the starchy carbs, which is why I'm just now saying it's paleo-ish.

For a person who was strict vegan for about a year, and then vegetarian for several more years, it's odd to be focusing on animals.  Not really sure I like that.

My knee is still bothering me from my trail running fall.  It's much better, but stairs bother it.  The pain is right under the knee cap, I guess from the impact.  The other knee is much more black and blue (and the one that was bothering me a little before the fall) but seems ok.  Can it be just a bruise of some sort?  I've got the Thanksgiving half next week, that I have done every year I have lived in Georgia.  I'm not missing it this year, even if I have to crawl it!

Another fun boot camp day, lots of new exercises. And we finished off dragging a tire around the building (TOUGH!) and then Jay and I wanted to try the slosh pipe, a giant ~10 foot long PVC pipe capped off and filled about halfway with water so it sloshes around as you try to run with it.
