Expert 687 Cambridge, MA | Subject: RE: lkagop's Training Group Looking forward to a Peach Dec, but had to get in my last workouts toward this month's Ironman Challenge. I finished up the marathon-distance run and 2.4mi swim this afternoon, but didn't come REMOTELY close to finishing the cycling! Hoping to get more biking with trainer work this season. How did everyone else do in the Nov challenge? |

Extreme Veteran 329 | Subject: RE: lkagop's Training Group Same as you no probs on the running and swimming but failed miserably on the bike!! It is already December here and I'm pumped and ready to go. Talk about a test. My youngest is home today and I thought I would get up early and drive to my gym and get my run and weights done early but hubby then informs me he is leaving now I need to be here to get my son off to school. Thought "that's ok, I'll get him to school" and my step-daughter (and back up babysitter) can watch Chloe while I go to the gym but NO she is heading out now too. So much for Plan B & C so now it looks like this.....I'll take Chloe (my youngest - for the newbies I have a daughter Chloe and a step-daughter Chloe who both live with me) to the pool for my workout and she can ride her bike while I run in the afternoon and I'll just have to do a modified version of my weights program at home - if I do all of that I can tick all the boxes today. James: hope you get better soon. |

Supersonicus Idioticus 2439 Thunder Bay, ON | Subject: RE: lkagop's Training Group Whoa Michelle - Reading that sounds tiring! Congratz to all PBs since I've been gone. And about the 13lb in one month... you can do it if you do the peach december challenge where every day is >1hr and you have the weight to lose. Keep in mind though, you have to be physically able to do such a thing. I remember I did 6lb in ten days because I swam 10 hours in that time. |

New user 4 Henderson, NV | Subject: RE: lkagop's Training Group Hey everyone! I was reading through all the posts yesterday and excited to find out about this peach thing....when the power supply for my laptop fried. I will try to get another one today but I'm not sure how much I will be around this next week. Just wanted to say that I'm not gone! I gather that the peach challenge is to work out 30 minutes a day for the entire month? I'm new to the triathlon - I had been following a plan for a half marathon. Any advice on transitioning my training plan? Also, does anybody know of any good swimming videos or other resources? I haven't done any kind of competitive swimming. I'm trying to get the freestyle form down but I'm not having much success. I'd love any advice! Corrina |

Extreme Veteran 329 | Subject: RE: lkagop's Training Group Corinna, A good swimming resource is www.swimplan.com it is a free site. You sign up then punch in where you are at now and swimplan will set a plan for you and as you improve you ask for the next level and then you get a new one. Very easy. Lora has spoken about Total Immersion Swimming (book) I haven't checked it out yet but it seems everyone who has read it swears by it. Regarding your program I suggest you search through the tri programs available here and look at the training program that best suit you.

Extreme Veteran 329 | Subject: RE: lkagop's Training Group Scott: You are off to a rip roaring start. Well done on the run challenge. Yesterday (Dec 1) I logged a 6.66km run - 30 min weights and 2,100m swim and so far today 2,600, swim with a 45min bike ride coming up this afternoon. |

Expert 687 Cambridge, MA | Subject: RE: lkagop's Training Group Peach #1=a 3.64mi run, which is a more than respectable start for me as I don't seem quite as advanced and/or in a good routine as some of the group. I was particularly proud of the fact that I got my peach in despite being derailed at the last minute by bike trouble. I can't figure out why my rear brake is sticking! It's unclear whether the Kurt skewer I had to sub out for my own because I received my trainer delivered put together wrong is what is the prob (is my rear wheel now uneven?) or if it's cable friction causing the brake to stick or what?? Need to look at it tomorrow. Anyway, nearly an hour of fiddling got me nowhere and I wasn't in the mood to run at 9pm, but I'm trying to get past my excuses and bouts of low motivation. One down, 30 to go! Edited by running4beer 2008-12-01 9:50 PM |

Pro 5761 Bartlett, TN | Subject: RE: lkagop's Training Group I was peachy yesterday, getting in a 24 minute swim and a 48 minute bike. I am using a BT training plan this time around, so it will be interesting. Peachy #2 will be push-em-ups tongiht. Finally over my sickness and ready to hit it. Although I screwed up and did not get signed up for my 5k like I wanted before they sold out all the spots, so I think I will take the advice given to me and run my own jford2309 annual 5k race this weekend (guaranteed to place int his race!) |

Member 48 | Subject: RE: lkagop's Training Group good luck on your 5k run jford, as for me i actually had to substitute my swim today into a run. Since i'm in a military installation and there's only one pool, soldiers are our first priority so we were left without getting our swim class in today, but we have to understand that we have to make sure our soldiers get in their training because time has come again for their deployment so our time in the pool will be limited that means that if i want to get my swim in which i do my butt will be in front of the door step at 5 am to make sure i can get or able to share a lane. So with that said i went home and replaced my swimming gear into my running gear and ran 6 miles at a pace slightly over 10 mins per. Got myself in at 1 hr 5 min 38s so it was not that bad even though it was cold but i was well prepared for the weather. As for my strength training i'll be working on bi's and tri's during my lunch break. Yesterday had my spinning class heavy work on hill climbing at a restistance between 4 to 7 seated mostly and worked out on my legs and back during the evening hour at my job. I don't know if this is peachy enough. |

Sounds pretty freakin peachy to me! Congratz! I see you are trying to increase your sentence length to match the number of laps you do in the pool. And everyone here has totally upped their training session length! I'm impressed. I'll just humbly record my 27min run. |

Member 22 Hudson Valley, NY | Subject: RE: lkagop's Training Group 2 peaches and 29 to go. 1 peach for cycling in the basement and 1 peach for swimming. I've just been slow to log my workouts. Question: At what point do you skip workouts when your sick? I've read that as long as it stays above the neck your fine to workout, but once it moves south into the lungs or stomach its time to take a break. What do you do? |

Extreme Veteran 329 | Subject: RE: lkagop's Training Group I listen to that one. A sports doctor I saw reckons that if it is in your respiratory system it can lead to a viral infection (and swelling) of the heart. He said it is rare but happens enough to warrant caution. |

Expert 687 Cambridge, MA | Subject: RE: lkagop's Training Group Impressive workouts, everybody! I'm wondering the same about the illness thing-- I'm on day 13 or so (!) of the tail end (been mild for the last week) of a bad upper respiratory thing. Oddly, though - I actually feel pretty good running or swimming at a decent intensity for 30-45min... the coughing fits don't come until I stop moving. Still may aim for more strength peaches rather than aerobic stuff till my lungs are 100%. |

I'm dying - dying - to go work out but my body is beaten up by whatever I've got. I think my stuff's above the neck, but I feel like such crap I don't care about that rule. As we're taught here on BT, listen to the body. Sorry you're feeling badly, though. Thanks for all the Inspires the last couple days, everyone. I betcha I haven't spent 10 minutes on my computer the last couple days. Will be in touch soon. |
