Pro 4608 Brooklyn, NY | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread katherinel - 2009-08-18 1:52 PM Ok, First off I know absolutely nothing about gear sizes and how they work...I just pedal. I'm appropriately ashamed of my ignorance, but eager to learn. I went and got my bike and counted. Here's what I got. front 39/53 back 12/25. I am sufficiently worried about this particular hill (and well hey a couple of the others were hard work too) to spend some money. Tell me what to do. Would getting a slightly bigger number in the back make any difference? I used to be better than average on hills until I got a new tri bike. On my old road bike I used to pass people on up-hills, now I pass them on my tri bike on downhills. Please advise! Other factors to consider, I have an opportunity to get some used Zipps (404's) from a friend who has retired from triathlon. I think I'd need to buy some new gears anyway if I do. Currently I have Mavic Ksyrium wheels. Lastly, I apologise if this post would be better on the gear thread, but it seemed to fit in with where this conversation is going, and my concerns that make me consider these changes are Wisconsin inspired. I just switched to Zipps and they are great, but I recommend you try them out for a bit of training before racing on them. The 404s aren't that deep but they do catch wind so if you're on a carbon bike you'll get whipped around a little and it's worth getting used to the feeling. My rim tape was also faulty so I flatted 6 times on the first ride and ended the day in a sag wagon. Now that could have happened with ANY new wheels, but my point is save nothing new for race day. I've done two long rides and a medium ride on the Zipps, am planning two more rides then will hang them up until race day. Also, I'm no expert but I've heard the Mavics are decent as well. |

Elite 3687 | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread crea0029 - 2009-08-18 6:55 PM Thanks everyone, now I have to go home and count my teeth and find out what I am riding on.
Does anyone have any info on additional tickets for the pasta dinner on Friday and the brunch on Monday? I might be bringing another person who I don't have a ticket for and would really like to make sure that isn't going to be a problem. Last year they ran out of tickets by the time I went through registration. Wanted to buy an extra for my wife. Had to wait until about 7:00 when they started selling them again the night of. I would advise getting to registration as early as possible to get an extra ticket right away. |

If you don't purchase the ticket at time of request/registration, dinner/brunch ticket information won't be known until they open the doors for dinner night, as Bryan mentioned, above. Sorry. I was a volunteer last year and tried to help Firstnet911 with my connection at the time to see if I could snag one for him for AmyJo, but couldn't. |

New user 2 Salem, MA | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Hey everyone! This will be my first full IM distance and I will be heading out from MA. Quick question: Does anyone have any idea of the water temp? I would like to swim in a sleeveless, but it seems most peoples race reports from previous years report they used a full. Any thoughts on this? Thanks! |

Weather is always a crap shoot, and so is the tempature of the lake. However, I have both types of wetsuits, and wished I would have worn sleeveless last year..but that's me. The point is, the lake is only really cold in late fall and the winter (when the ice fisherman are on it |
