Here is a BT video on wetsuits that may be helpful.  I plan on calling Desoto and just saying, "help me, please."

sesh - 2009-02-10 11:49 AM I'm on the hunt for a wetsuit as well.  I decided to go with Desoto, and whenever people ask what I want for my birthday, I give them the link to the gift certificate page on the Desoto website.  My birthday probably won't be as nuts as the kiddo's, samantha.  I have a strict no running on birthdays policy.  Anyway, if all goes according to plan (in other words, if I get what I want), I'll be ordering a wetsuit next week!

That whole bit about your birthday just sunk in.  What day is it?

Anyone else have a birthday coming up?

The 17th.  So Tuesday?

I managed to stretch week 4 into two weeks.  Now it is time for another test, right?  I think I'll be doing week 4 again.

I was helping my son put together a lego helicopter last weekend.  My job was to dig around in the container and find all the tiny, odd-shaped pieces.  My hands are still healing from all the little cuts.  Those things are sharp!  And they do seem to multiply, except for the pieces you are looking for.  Those are always missing.

Somehow I haven't managed to reach week 4 yet.   The days keep getting away from me.

If I remember, I will do my pushups during break at school.  It has been a couple of weeks since I did many  so I think that I will need to retest myself.

Hmmmm....virtual birthday party next week?

I swam again this morning.  I must be getting better because I didn't have to rest for 5 minutes before I could lift myself out of the pool.  The pool was pretty empty this morning.  Monday I had to share a lane with this guy who looked like he was 7 feet tall and was lapping me on a kickboard.  I'm trying not to let the good swimmers intimidate me.  It's just motivation to swim faster, right?

My parents were in the area yesterday visiting friends, so they stayed at our house last night. One of my dogs decided to wake me up every five minutes to let me know that they were still there.  At 1:30 am my husband finally made her sleep in the basement.  At 4:30 she'd had enough basement and started crying.  I'm waiting for the lack of sleep to hit me....zzzzzzzzzzz......

Hmmmm....virtual birthday party next week?

I wonder if there is a way share baked treats over the internet...

I guess that USPS has fast shipping options, but that makes things kind of spendy.

Sure.  And I can have a productive day at work while spending hours on the BT forums.  Okay, maybe not.   Tongue out

Yesterday was a big deadline day, and now that it's passed and the pressure is off for awhile, I just don't feel like working.  The whole department is very quiet today.  I think everyone is goofing off.

I had a hard run this morning and my body is dragging.  I guess that is the purpose of the Prep and Build period but it's hard to keep pushing yourself when you muscles are screaming to slow down.

All I can think about these tough workouts is sitting on a beach, sipping something w/ an umbrella and soaking up the sun.

Plus all sorts of self doubt is creeping in.  I'm struggling through my swims and yesterday I struggled on a long bike ride with my husband.  It's great to hear him say afterwards - why are you going so slow?  You should really push yourself harder.  I guess I should just ignore the burning thighs, 170bpm HR and wind blowing so hard on the return that I thought my bike was going to tip over.

Oh well it's only been a month - I'll keep trying to plug away.

On a nutrition note I saw this article in the USA TODAY this morning:
http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2009-02-11-protein-recovery_N.htm?loc=interstitialskip

So I pose a question to the group - what is your favorite post workout recovery nutrition?  Mine tends to be liquid b/c I'm not usually interested in eating afterwards.  So either a protein/yogurt smoothie or my real favorite - a Starbucks Banana Chocolate Vivano (16oz.).
I don't think you can beat these numbers esp. if you are looking for a 2 to 1 ratio. And it tastes so good.

Note to the men in the group:  This is not motivating, and you will pay for comments like that.  Maybe not immediately, but you will pay.  My husband has learned this lesson the hard way.  Wink

Samantha, you are doing a great job with your workouts.  Sometimes you get tired and they feel harder.  Let's see....what else did you guys tell me a few weeks ago?  It will get better.  Just stick to the plan.

I like chocolate-banana protein smoothies.

You are not the only one, and I'm declaring an official whine day.

My cycling speeds have plummeted, my run paces are getting worse, the weekly volume is staying high, I don't remember the last time I woke up and the sun was already out, I only get about one normal lunch a week, and I would kill for a single day when something isn't sore.  I want to be on a balcony looking over the Gulf with a good book, a porterhouse topped with two fried soft shell crabs, a greek salad with lump crab meat, two dozen oysters, a dozen Abita Turbodogs, a few pounds of steamed shrimp, and a plate of onion rings that I can barely lift.

Ok, now that that is out, I had a pretty decent run this morning.  Fantastic weather, and my next two workouts are in the pool... so I like that.  As for the training, I've just got to keep reminding myself that I'm getting ready for April 5th, not February 13th.   And while it's no fresh seafood from the Gulf, I had a pretty good baked potato and bowl of soup last night.

See, those are the rules of Whine Day.  You gotta find a bright spot post venting.

When I'm really thinking about recovery, I'll mix up some Endurox and eat a banana and a turkey sandwich.  If I don't have Endurox, I'll go with Chocolate Milk.  However, as the sessions have begun to get really long, my typical recovery has been strictly for comfort.  It's beer and whatever I can get my hands on.

Yup!  As I just posted and have to tell myself everyday.  I'm not getting ready for tomorrow, I'm getting ready for (insert date of your race here).  It will come together if you stick with it.

There's also other things I tell myself, but that's pretty much between my bikes and me, and they aren't talking.  They're far to polite to say such things in public

Oops, were we supposed to wait until today to start whining?  I think I've already whined enough this week.

My workouts are okay, except this morning's short run which I skipped because I coughed all night and didn't feel like getting up this morning.  I'll either go out later or just do tomorrow's trainer ride tonight and run tomorrow.

Did I mention the annoying cough?  Wink

On the bright side, I'm leaving work at 3:15 so I can watch my daughter swim.  It's do or die.  If they don't win today, the season is over.  I'm a nervous mother!

What is it about beer?  Until I started training, I never drank beer.  Didn't like it.  Now it tastes really good to me.  I was thinking there must be something in beer that my body wants, otherwise I'd be happy with the usual Jack and Coke.

I just have my regular meal-always.

i plan and pack every night. put stuff like oatmeal in bags, whey protein, fruit, nuts, yogurt etc...
Now that im hitting weekly hours of 12+ i am purchasing some gu's and some heed for during my workout-but always whole foods after. usually whatever like chicken broccoli and rice, or pancakes and eggwhites with cheese. Im already super lean so im not worried about losing weight i actually dont want to lose anymore but i need another % or two of bodyfat off me to get down to where i want to be (7%)

Training has been going extremely well this week after i finally took 3 days off, ate my brains out, and let my sickness heal.
im absolutely pounding it this week sounfortunately i cannot join in on the whine-ALTHOUGH sesh-you described exactly what i want right now as well.

ETA: I just read the article that was posted and it seems like the olympic lady agrees with me

"Clark says experiment and find out what works for you. She is a big promoter of using natural foods for recovery because they have vitamins, minerals and other health-protective qualities.

"Commercial sports foods can offer convenience — but they are not better than chocolate milk, yogurt, fruit smoothie (made with fruit and yogurt) or any other carb-protein combination."

Mmmmmmmmmmm  Beer!

There are some days when it tastes so good.  However, I have yet to think one tastes good right after a race.  And so many races have free booze at the finish line.

I hope the cough goes away soon and your daughter has a great meet!  Even if you're not allowed to dye your hair.  ;-)

Hi!  Today I did push-ups in the parking lot at 6:30am.   70-some.   Laughing

Maybe I can get back on board for the push-up challenge.

I am hoping to get at least a swim in this evening-a masters workout.  Maybe a bit of spinning if I can fit it in.

I need to revise my whine.  Remember my good thing?  Thanks to crazy high winds here, the power is out in half the town including the school.  No pool heater or filter, so they've had to postpone the meet.  Which means I no longer have a reason to leave work early.

And do you think the part of the town where my office is could lose power?  No such luck.

Hopefully they will reschedule for tomorrow.

Nope. mid 30-s and rain, not a happy combo for riding in, time to choose another movie and hop on the drainer. At least i'm not sore today!

Recovery - FOOD! Milk w/ whey and an apple usually. Peanut butter!
