Ooof.  I went out drinking on a school night last night and my stomach hates me for it today.  So much for getting up this morning and cycling.  *barfs*

Work is going to be rough today.

I was reading an article in Triathlete Magazine about the Ultraman World Championships... I see the allure of Ironman - hell, I have totally bought into it.  I can kinda (in the so far off distance) see the allure of the 100 mile runs (although to me that is the ultimate extreme sport).  BUT, when is enough - enough... The Ultraman - 6.2 mile swim & 90 mile bike on day 1, 171.4 mile bike on day 2, and finish up with two marathons - 52.4 miles of running on day 3... the men's winner completed this gauntlet in 21:49:38 and the women's winner 26:25:0.

Seriously... how do you even begin to prepare for something like this?  An IM is just another training day.  Crazy - Ijust thought I'd share the lunacy...  ANY Takers? Come On - Ultraman Challenge - in lieu of the PU Challenge! Ha!!!

I'm already feeling nauseous, and that just made my poor tummy churn.  Haha.  Wow, that's a whole new level of insanity.

I read that article as well.  This makes the PU challenge look like a cake walk!  Cannot even begin to imagine the training for this!

Not for myself, by any means ever, but I do see the allure in this as another way to take it to the next level.  I feel like, to an extent, we're all guilty of trying to see how far/hard we can push ourselves and test our limits.  And it gets addicting.

Anyone watch the Biggest Loser last night?  The guy that got sent home (Blaine) has been training and plans to do an Ironman before this season's final show.  Go Blaine!!  The distances of the race he described seemed a slightly odd though.  I believe he said it was a 1.5 mile swim, 80 mile bike and half-mary.

I watched it as well... Inspiring - I think he would be a good Clydesdale candidate.  I do recall him listing of the distances, and thinking he is either coming up short or going a little long... The half pretty much sealed the deal... 70.3 it ain't for sissies, so good for him!  Maybe the Tri Lifestyle will keep him focused and able to keep the extra pounds off.  So many of the contestants leave the show and put the weight + some back on... there was a story on one of the news shows about that.  Triathlon is just exploding in the last year!  The Tri Club I joined has seen numbers at meetings that they have NEVER seen.  Just incredible growth!

Wetsuits.....any idea approx. how much time is saved by wearing one during a HIM swim?  Planning to get one, but just curious.

Also, what do you think is a better investment....a wetsuit or aerobars?

I saw a difference in swim speed between a sleeveless vs full sleeve... I swam with a buddy in training... w/o wetsuits we were dead even... he wore a full I wore a sleeveless...he gained several seconds per 100 on me in calm open water... The suit definitely makes a difference.

Clip on Aerobars are cheap enough, you should pick those up anyway.  Now, the higher end intergrated or carbon jobs...a bit more pricey.  If it were me, I would go with the good WS and cheaper (aluminum clip-ons)...  There are some great deals on WS's... all3sports.com and triathletesports.com had the '08 Zoot Zenith (Zoot's top-o-line WetZoot - retail 599.99 for 300-315)...Of course there are quality suits for less than that too... what ever fits best and fits your budget.

With the water temps up north, you willprobably get much more use from a Ws then we do down here.

How much time you save with a wetsuit really depends on how low your body is in the water when swimming without one.  For me, my hips/legs are normally high without a suit so my savings is relatively small and I'd estimate it to be ~3-5s/100m.  The biggest thing I noticed is not really the time savings but the effort level is much lower with a wetsuit.

Both are great investments and as Justin said you don't need the top of the line aerobars which is generally due to weight savings.  Make sure to get a bike fit when you buy the aerobars! You should be able to talk your way to a free/discounted fit if you buy the bars from your LBS

Unlike Eric, my legs sink in the water, I am 10 - 15 seconds/100m faster in a wetsuit. My wetsuit times blow away my non wetsuit swims.

I should have mentioned earlier, but I do plan on getting both.  Just trying to figure out what to get first.....I have a feeling it will end up being a wetsuit.

Not just rainy, cold too! Good/bad news is I'll probably have to work one of the days this weekend so the bad weather wont make me feel as bad being at work.  At least we can enjoy the outdoors with a nice ride today!

Just planned my season and registered for all the races (they fill up fast). 1 sprint, 2 olympic and my first HIM at the end of the season. It is surprisingly motiviating just sign-up for the races and committing to do them.

Yes Ladies and Gentleman it is Friday the 13th, get your scary on. I have a date with the Mrs. tonight and will be heading to the theater to see the latest installment of the all time greatest slasher series of Friday the 13th. The wife loves it more than I do so what every makes momma happy.

On a sour note I noticed a small puddle of fluid under my fluid trianer last night. So I cut my session short. Will be giving cyclops a call today. It isnt a new one but I have heard they will replace so we will see. Maybe an issue will come up today around 3 that I will have to leave work and be forced to have a nice outdoor rider, hhmmmmm. Whats the best short term excuss to skip out?

Sorry about the trainer problem...keep us posted, as I too own a cyclops - which was bought used - and would like to know if they carry some type of warranty.

The new 13th flick looks better than the original... We're not much into the scary movies - but I am curious if they did it justice from the original.

Best skip out excuse... Appointments are always good... Dentist, Dr., even Vet... Good luck and I hope you have a good ride...  I may be feeling a little in need of an appt this afternoon myself!

Your training consistency is great and this season should be very good to you!  I smell some new PR's getting smoked!  Keep it up - that in it self is motivating to me!
