Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Again, in the "for what it's worth" department.... I've read a couple of training logs lately about losing count of laps in the pool. I had a really hard time keeping up until my wife suggested this: ![]() $9.99 at almost any sporting goods store. Ask for a pitch counter. I've had it completely under water a couple of times and it seems no worse for the experience. It does require me to stop and stand to hit the button every lap, but I can't do a flip turn anyway. Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I haven't been posting much lately as work has been a total bear. I have been making some upgrades to my bike, however. I got some new wheels, a new rear derailleur and a new crankset. Not sure how much faster they make me but they sure look good. Also, thanks Chip for the tip about removing the sprockets when changing the derailleur, it worked like a charm. I didn't know anything about bike repair but so far I have done all the work myself and nothing has fallen apart yet. Actually there are some really good videos online that show you how to do most things. (SDC104582.jpg) Attachments ---------------- SDC104582.jpg (94KB - 12 downloads) |

It gives me comfort to know that without much experience you were able to figure out how to make these upgrades on your own. Enjoy the ride! Ken, Thanks. The biggest thing I have learned is that there are some specialized tools you need and trying to do the job without the proper tool is next to impossible. For instance, a crank puller to remove the crankset. Seems like after you remove the bolts, it should come right off but not the case. I tried about everything I could think of to no avail and then I borrowed a neighbor's crank puller and they were off in about 1 minute. Now I am starting to feel like even if I break down on the road, I have some chance of fixing it and getting going again unless something is just plain totally broken. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I liked the bike "porn". =) I wish I was as comfy working on my bike as you! |
![]() ![]() |
Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I think you are right about the specialized tools. In a prior life I used to race cars and I think I can still rebuild an engine and take the car apart and put back together, although it wouldn't be nearly as fast as I used to. I still have most of the hand tools and the only thing I have that fits my bike is the metric allen wrench set! I have been close a couple of times to buying one of the Park Tool set, but never have! It might be time as I would like to make a couple of upgrades this year! |

This is my '01 996 TT with a Ruf 550 conversion. Puts out an amazing amount of horsepower and torque without changing the city driving character of the car. I like to have a car that's got way too much horsepower since all of my bicycles are so embarrissingly underpowered. ![]() |

I'm definitely not mechanically inclined enven though my father owned a gas station/garage back in the day and was always tinkering with his vehicles. Those genes must have skipped over me. After my triahlon last week, I am very hungry for a triathlon bike, now how to get the wife on board may be my biggest challenge this year. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This 95 yo youngster brings a lot of inspiration and good will during the annual 180 mile MS150 two day ride from Houston to Austin. He was the last one into LaGarange, our 1st day overnight arriving around 7pm. When they announced Bill was coming in, folks lined up to give him high 5's. We had brutal head winds last year both days so we're hoping for better conditions this weekend. This will be the 25th anniversary ride with 13,000 cyclists raising pledges to find a cure for Muscular Sclerosis. My link. http://main.nationalmssociety.org/site/TR/Bike/TXHBikeEvents?px=189...
