Hey you have a triathlon to get ready for, stop the party talk. ;-)

I don't see anything obvious on the calendar.  There are a lot of NJ races in Aug-Oct though.  The Black Bear Triathlon is only 80 mins from Randolph.  I would be up for that race but I can't make it to packet pickup in time, unless I got someone to get it for me (if taht's allowed).  I have a friend heading to that race so I have extra incentive there.

Are you OUT OF YOUR MIND!!! I am freakin about a race in July and u want me to do one next week!

Hope everyones races went well this weekend...I have been struggling with some sleep issues for about 2 weeks now and it is really catching up with me. I can't seem to sleep more then 4 hours a night and i usually need a solid 7....I  gave up most of my caffeine (including my REDBULL) a week before this started...so i am not sure what the problem is...I thought someone else in the group had some issues with this at one point also but i looked back and i couldnt find it...

Hey I'm just thinking about your well being!  ;-)  If you did Black bear this weekend, it would soothe your nerves about the Randolph tri incredibly! ;-)

I think Chicago Dave might have had sleep issues at some point.  Glad you gave up caffiene. :-)  So you just wake up in the middle of the night?

Glad your ride went well Becky!  Wow you are going to do really well in this race.

Sure wish I could figure out a way to post to this forum from my cell phone.  I can update other things, just not forums.

Ok I am thinking I really need a big bike ride this weekend.  There are several rides available, but Saturday looks bad for me.  And all of these require a drive.

The Shorebird Metric Century on Saturday in Salisbury.

Sunday:

Shenandoah Valley Heritage Ride (70 miles), Winchester, VA

Chester County Metric Century (West Chester, PA)

I would really like to do more than 63-70 miles.  Maybe one of these is easily rideable after the "ride" is over?

Steve, want to run the BWI Trail Tuesday night?

They posted video from the Dreaded Druid Hills 10k course if any of you are interested in seeing what the course looks like. This video is right before mile 3, we haven't really gotten into the bad hills yet but this one was a nice heavy breathing one. :-)  This video captures what the hills mostly look like in the middle of the course, and also how pretty it can be.  I am at 1:17 in this video.

Dreaded Druid Hills

Yes I am smiling and laughing in yet another pic.  But it was funny, hearing him saying "3 mile mark" when we are suffering so much and yet haven't gotten halfway through the race.

I've been having some sleep issues but mine are from allergies. A little Benedryl at night helps temendously.

I dont have any issues with allergies right now...i think it may be a nutrition issue...anyone know if not taking in enough calories during the day could effect ur sleep routine?

Dave - I enjoyed the video! Nice to see u have such a good time when u run!!! LOL

Thanks. :-)  We'll see when I have to lead the 4:15 at Baltimore! :-)  I'm trying to come up with things I might want to say to people.  I love Chuck Norris jokes, I may try to memorize a bunch of those.  And they are exercise-related!

I thought you were doing the 5:00 group??  4:45 I might be able to do, but 4:15?  Not a chance.

Now I'm going to have to consider the Baltimore marathon. I have some friends who want to do the relay but that just seems like a waste to me. I could just go run a 10K if I wanted that distance.

I think the Cape Henlopen Tri is the same weekend and that's one of my favorite races. Decsions decisions.

Dave, I'm racing this weekend so I would not be available to ride. Keep trying, we'll get together soon. I would be up for a long ride next weekend.

Hey, did you tell us you were doing the Cascade Lake Triathlon?

I was a 5:00 pacer for Baltimore 2008, this year is 4:15.  Becky, you are improving every week, we'll just have to see where you are when October gets nearby. :-)

The Baltimore Relay can be kind of fun with friends but if you get the wrong leg you can end up waiting around a lot.  But, if you want to run long, you can just run your leg, then run the next leg with your teammate.  I did that one year.  Then you get a supported training run.

Friends and I are beginning to think about JFK 50 this year.

I'm getting anxious waiting for Abbie to do her first triathlon. :-)

When the Boogeyman goes to sleep every night, he checks his closet for Chuck Norris.

Have a good race Steve!  Hmm.  I wonder if Tour De Carroll crosses that course.  We were talking about doing that ride.

Hey Everyone...Becky and Josh, congrats on the race. You mention sighting, Tempe was open water and I had similar issues.  The June issue of Triathlete magazine has a great section on swim workouts and techniques to use during workouts which can help simulate pool workouts for open water practice.  I think I got yelled at too during my race.  I really need to work on my transitions, but I am really going to work on jumping on the bike and having shoes already clipped on.

I am sorry I have been MIA, sister got married last weekend and I sent the whole week helping her out.  Made every attempt to hit the gym, but just could not make it, so I took the week off.  I needed to do it anyway to heal some minor things that were not going to heal on their own or during preparation for the week.  Oddly enough, I discovered that I felt just as strong if not maybe a bit stronger coming back this week to the gym.  Obviously my threshold has been shoved down a bit, but I feel great.  I know most athletes underestimate rest, but man, more rest is needed.  I am addicted, I do not have a race scheduled until Chicago in late August and all this buzz form everyone about their races just has me aching to get another one on.

Abbisue I hope that your race goes awesome.  I think the most important thing that I learned between my first one and my second race is this...if you ever saw the movie Matrix and how Keanu learns to slow things down as he learns to adapt...keeping calm and almost focusing to take it real slow, helped me out tremendously the second time around...I just kept imagining myself in slow motion (obviously going at full race throttle) but it helped out so much to stay calm.  You know everything that you have to do and going through the motions in your head slowly although your body is going fast I think is key.  There is also a nice little "How to think about transitions" article in the June Triathlete as well.  I also kept it REAL simple.  I had my bike shoes, running shoes, glasses, helmet and a spare towel at my transition for the first race.  Granted it was a sprint, but I saw some people bringing luggage full of all kinds of stuff that I could not understand, to each his own, but keeping it simple is going to be my best ally in transition. Giving up caffeine is great, I never gave it up and I just limit myself to two caffeinated drinks during the morning.  That whole "listen to your body" can't be more true.  I think the sleep issues were just nerves leading up to my first race.  I was so much calmer the second time around, more in control of self for sure.

I am excited about gearing up for the Olympic size triathlon in Chicago August 28.  I hope you are all doing well and training safe.

Dave, I almost forgot, even though I only had four training sessions on my new bike, which were spent tweaking my shoes and aerobars, etc. I did manage real well on the aerobars and stayed aero probably about 95% of the time. My whole bike set-up just made such a difference, I can't wait to spend more time on it in the weeks to come. Thanks again for all the insight and support out here.

I just decided last week to do it and signed up. I didn't really do a lot of research and have since found out that the bike is pretty hilly. Uh oh!! Good thing it's a sprint. Also, my legs are still toasted from my trail race. Should be a fun day.

ok i think i may be the only person who gives up caffeine and winds up twice as hyper as before! Perhaps it is anxiety...I don't know. I signed up to do a local 5K Monday and maybe it will help me to chill out. I am going into it thinking its just for the practice...i don't have to win. (yea right)

Has anyone ever used Endurox recovery drink? I started using it about 2 weeks ago...i was just curious how long it takes ur body to get use to the whey protein? I only use about 3/4 of a scoop in 12 oz of water...but if i take it anymore the 2 days in a row i wind up with a belly ache.

I used that and Accelerade for my 50K training. It didn't give me a belly ache but definitely got "things" moving. Let's just say that I was thankful for the privacy running in the woods provide.

Way to keep racing Abbie! I've never head of a non-holiday Monday 5k before, interesting.  Remember, don't start out too fast!  I don't want to see a 6:45 as your first mile split. :-)

I haven't tried Endurox mainly because I ignore recovery drinks.  I figure I earned being able to eat my recovery, not drink it. :-)  It could be something useful, but I haven't tried it yet.  I'm not familiar with how often they recommend you drinking it, do they say every day?

I did use their racing product, Accelerade, and it seemed to bloat my stomach, it was hard to clean out of bottles, and it smelled really, really, really bad if it sat around for a while, even if I drank all I could and didn't rinse it out.  And once you smell it bad, even when it is ok, you still smell a hint of what you remember.

I changed to Hammer products and I do a lot better with them.  In general every person is going to be different, and you should experiment with different products to see what you like best.

Haha, well maybe he will follow through this time.  In any case, even if he drops out, if Roger and I are in, you will have training buddies and such.

I haven't seen a Ragnar Relay thread, where is it?  I probably wouldn't do it unless it fell into the schedule well, depending on the mileage.  I wouldn't want to trash my legs for a race that was just for fun.  Being in a van with 10 stinky people all sharing a 200 mile run sounds wonderful otherwise though. :-)  I've never done one of those before.

I just looked it up.. oh yeah give me one of the legs that goes through the streets of Washington DC at 2-4am! :-)

Chicago Dave's post on transitions was a good one.  One of the things I do is within the last 10 minutes of the previous leg, I start focusing on what I am going to do in transition.  I walk through each step in my head, so when the real transition comes, I've already done it 4-5 times.  Now, what I learned at Columbia is that I need to include which way I am entering/exiting the transition when rehearsing in my head.

So Dave, obviously you are begging to sign up for another race.. so which one?  What's the next goal?  Try to crush the sprint distance, or move up to olympic?

Good to hear that your use of aerobars went well.  I was happy to read about Becky's high % usage last weekend as well.

2 weeks to Eagleman!

Looks like I may be heading to Shenandoah on Sunday for a big charity bike ride.  Becky, that is only and hour from you..
