Hey everybody, need to get the tread going.

Had a great swim tonight.  Missed a bunch of practices in Feb due to work.  Walked in tonight, coach glanced at my sideways and let me know we were going to swim a bunch tonight (so be wary) ----- BRING IT ON ------ totally kicked at swim!!!!  I know it is a total NO, NO, but I love pull buoys.  It is like Christmas all over when the coach allows me to use it.

How is everyone else doing???

Also, did an indoor tri on Sunday.  It was so much fun!!! I recommend to anyone who is still starting out to try them - even if you are bored or need some competitive juices going.  There were hard core triathletes and people there doing them for fun.  I had so much fun I signed up for another this weekend.  Its only 1 hr total, so can't hurt my training, but did wonders helping me transitioning and running from one sport to the next.

Anyone in northern illinois want to the Lifetime Warrenville indoor tri this weekend with me???

Results weren't great but here they are:

10 min swim - 18 lengths
30 min bike - 13.5 miles
20 min run - 1.51 miles

Very cool.  I still haven't done an indoor tri yet.  I think we have a few in the area.  Or I could drive to Illinois

Well I finished up week 16 of my off season swim focus yesterday.  I did another 1000 yd time trial to see where I'm at.  My time was 15:37 which was :30 faster than 8 weeks ago and 1:44 faster than my initial test in November.  I'm pretty happy with the progress.

If you drive to Illinois for an indoor tri, I will committ to buying wings afterward!!!  Lifetime Fitness has a ton of them all through April.  They are fun and for those of you doing really long distances, thise would be great speed work for you.  The iron people killed the rest of us Laughing

Very nice job on the swim.  I always find it hard to resist wanting to do them all the time once you see improvements

nice job on the indoor tri!

It's still a month (almost exactly!) until my first "fun" event... so right now I'm trying to get all my bikes up and in perfect running order... also ordered some new stickers for my Zipps! so that they match and all

2 hour run looming on the horizon (sunday)

Not exactly looking forward to that one.
Swimming and biking going fairly well.

Is that bikes plural?  How many do you have?  You used different bikes for different events?

yeah...

09 PlanetX Stealth is going to be my distance machine
08 Scott CR1 is my Road bike / Sprint distance bike
06 Felt S32 is... sitting in pieces in my living room at the moment. It's future is still a bit fuzzy... Leaning towards making it an "aero or die" machine or a fixie... possibly even a hipster cruiser (aerospokes and all) for ridin' around town

Nice time management.  I still remember  old TV coverage of the IM when a lady would drag her trainer to her kids soccer games.

That may be true, and its fun to have more toys that you have, but now that I have a tri bike, I really have no interest in riding my road bike .  .  . I may rethink that after horribly hilly hundreds???? (or maybe I should before)

Blister question for the runners.  I have a blister (or very near) on my left foot at the very front of my arch.  I need to keep running, but it is painful.  I have used body glide . . . doesn't help. I have tried duck tape (story behind this), sweat rubs its stickiness off, can't change shoes at this point.  Are my shoes too loose or maybe too tight?  Change socks?

Duck tape story:  I used to play competitive ice hockey, but would always get blisters that would turn bloody on my arches in my hockey skates - VERY PAINFUL.  So I eventually discovered that  I could used duck tape on my arches and wrap it til ti overlayed itself on my top of my foot.  Worked perfectly (just had to remember to shave the top of my foot for fear of the duck tape tearing the hair off), but you foot does not move in your skate, very unlike running shoes.

For me, blisters went away permanently when I got some high-end running socks and rotated them out on a schedule.

Also, PrepH, actually works great on blisters (an old trick we used in cross country in high school).

I also had a blister in the same place you are describing.  It was my own stupid fault.  I was traveling on business and forget to bring socks.  I was determined to get my six miler in, so I ran on the hotel treadmill sockless--a big purply pink bubble of a blister formed on the inside of my right arch.  I attributed it to the arch support rubbing on my foot due to the looseness of the shoe.  Anyway, it took a very long time to resolve.  The first couple of runs after that fateful run, even with socks, it would blister up again and be painful, but within about a week or so, the pain subsided.  It did take a month or so for the blistering and peeling to subside though.  That was probably 9 months or so ago, and if I look at the bottom of my foot now, I can still see a pink discoloration on my right arch where the blister once was.

No real advice on how to 'fix' it.  Blisters are caused by friction, so it sounds like you have some slipping going on with your shoes.  Wrapping it with duct tape or bandages should help (and won't hurt).  You might consider trying thicker socks or perhaps lacing your shoes differently to prevent the slipping.  Good luck.

I hate to say it, but with my blisters (hot spots) it was just a matter of my feet toughening up.

I'll echo getting some nice socks. Hopefully it's not a shoe fit issue.

I'll say it's most like a sock or shoe issue.  I'm usually pretty good up until about 15 miles or so.  And then there was the one time I went sockless during the half marathon of an HIM.  That was fun.

Sorry I'm not more help.

Tough 5k very hilly and alot of switchbacks last .5 very steep climb. Finished 46 out of 97, 4 in age group out of 5. The trail running was different I have not done any trail running and that did hurt but it was pretty fun that last hill sucked and it sort of aggravated my shins but I think I will get out and run the trails some now.

First, how did you not get dizzy doing it??

Second, how did you not lose track of counting laps??

Does anyone else have trouble in the pool counting laps?  I am always off by +/-1-2 laps Sealed

Did a 4 mile run today - first in about 8-10 years!!!!

Went great cardio-wise. Kept HR below 172 the entire time and probably averaged about 167-168 most of the time, which is great for me.  Blister reared its ugly head about 30 min in, then just kept tying my shoe tighter.  It was so tight at the end of the run my feet actually hurt!!!  Oh, tried the wright socks that have the double layers, that didn't do it either. I am going to order some other socks today.

Hey, I wanted to mention to you since you were thinking of doing the knoxville race that they have added aquabike to the race.  So if you were worried about training, you could do and olympic or half aqaubike and it would be a nice brick workout.  They just added it in the last 2 or so months.

I am still monitoring my run state to determine if I need to switch from the olympic tri to the aquabike.  Need to switch by March 31st.
