Premier league clubs are foreign owned, managed by foreigners and full of foreigners.  The National side has no chance when young players don't the opportunities thanks to cheap imports with lower transfer fees.

The players that have made it think they're world beaters - probably because the media tell them they are every day of the domestic season after they beat a lower league side 4-0 because of their immense resources and massive squads.

Was really impressed with Germany (hurts to type that).  They passed it well, played on the break superbly and looked good.

BUT - we had them on the ropes at 2-1.  They're a young side and dragging them back to 2-2 would have been a massive test of character and a great game.  I'm not saying we would have won by a long shot and Argentina would have killed us in the next round but that level of incompetence is not acceptable.

Shame to see one of my favourite teams in the tournament Mexico get robbed by the officials as well.

A free spirited side with some awesome forward players.  The Mexico goalscorer was better than Messi tonight

England get the lesson they deserve...too slow, lack of technical skill....Germany were a different class today and very good to watch...

As I stated before...England lacks quality world class players...and the sad thing is that there are not many coming through the ranks to improve this predicament

We are the Aston Villa of World football

I somewhat disagree. We have a centre back crisis because of rio injury and its just caused a lack of cohesion at the back.
Going forward we have been strong, and if we were at 2-2 instead of 2-1, would have been different.

I agree to disagree....the skill level is different, speed is different..longer the game went even at 2-2...England would have been exposed....

I agree with you.  England as a TEAM looked slow.  England as a TEAM did not look creative.  England as a TEAM looked overmatched and outpaced.  One missing member on a TEAM does not cause the whole team to look as outplayed as England did today.  And I was pulling for them.

We've always had problems with england players ont being in a "Team" with england, only being in a team with their club game. It just is so disjointed nad a lack of passion except for maybe john terry.

And in clubs they get used to playing with foreigners who will become their opponents during international matches.

At clubs they play a lot of football with foreigners, and they get PAID A LOT TO DO SO!
Problem located. . .

Obviously they consist of good players, but terrible as a whole. Their defense was probably one of the worst among the 32 nations, not to mention under the bar and its substitute. I wonder why they went to the knock-out round the first time... '66 was looong time ago.

Now FIFA bans video replay on the the stadium television screens.

So did FIFA bring on Kim Jong-il as a consultant?

Wow.

Shouldn't it be completely obvious at this point that video replay is a must?  C'mon FIFA...  I don't think England would have won the game had the goal have counted, but it was clearly a goal.  I didn't think so at first, but after VIDEO REPLAY it was clearly a goal.  Sigh...

Not only they erfuse to use technology as the final "judge", they don't even let people see the replay even though it's not going to impact the results?
What is FIFA thinking?

FIFA is going to have a lot of pressure on it after this WC.  The calls by themselves over the weekend didn't decide the matches but they could have changed the momentum.

Oh well.

On a soccer note.  Netherlands is once again proving why they deserve to make a run towards the finals.  They kept the match under their control and it has paid off for them nicely.

ETA:  I spoke to soon.  They seem to have unraveled a bit in the 93 minute

FIFA is run by egotistic dinosaurs from a past age...they still believe in the "purity" of the game and dont see the forest for the trees...they mistake popularity of the sport for acceptance and agreement of the way FIFA are running the game....

Until they are challenged by a powerful league or a conglomerate of the powerful National associations that bully them into a change, they will sit in their VIP boxes and do nothing.

Given the use of technology in just about every other sports..its a mockery Football does not embrace it

I don't know what is going on with him... between the lazy defense and his temper tantrum in the box when he doesn't get the ball.

I think Brazil would make it through the stages but if they arrive the Finals facing Argentina, they are going to have a hard time.

If Argentina can beat Germany, I would say that they will advance to the final match.  If Brasil gets past Chile, they are still going to have a tough match ahead of them against the Netherlands.  After that, yes I could see Argentina and Brasil in the final match.

I very poor England put 2 goals up against Germany, with that kind of room they better score 4 again if they want to beat argentina, I know netherlands have been the silent destroyer but i dont think they've faced the same class of opponents as brazil has.

Well, it appears Dunga's defense was firing on all cylinders tonight and proved to be too much for Chile.

Chile were without their 2 central defenders....so a little flattering to Brazil....they look ok - should be interesting when someone challenges them...hopefully Holland

Usually there are some injuries..real or faked....that allow some respite for a quick drink..bottles are usually close to the touchline....you cannot leave the field so someone usually just chucks a bottle on and the players share etc....or grab one from the trainer if he is attending an injured player.
