Well, I was off work today and just had to ride my bike again for the second day in a row.  Tomorrow reality will set in and I will have to do the 30 minutes minimum thing.  Happy New Year everyone.

Actually Ernesto, my New Year's was pretty quiet.  Had dinner with my daughter who turned 27 on NYE.  Then I drove back to Austin so that I could ride Mt Bonnell on Jan 1.

Barry, I liked your new avatar with the medal, but it looks like you changed it.  I'm excited that there are so many people in the challenge.  Keep it up.  You will see that it is a great benefit.  When you don't feel like working out, stop at 30 min!

It's not the IPAD.  I had the same problem.  Instead of quoting, I just copied the data and then pasted it.  I also previewed it before I submitted, which is how I knew it looked like what you posted.

Oh My God, you crack me up Chris. I must admit that when Gabe took on the challenge I immediately knew we were competing for second place.

Hey gang, I just got back into Guatemala City and am now going through the thread.  Chris, this is way too funny!  I also cannot believe the extreme low temperatures at which you, Barry, Scott and Jen, Mitch and some others are training at (we might have to give you all some extra points for being such good hard core troopers!

Separately, like Ernesto mentioned about the challenge, the important thing is that everyone benefits and, in the past challenge we all came out winners!  Also, I agree with Ernesto's comment that I might have an advantage for this one since I'm training for my first Ironman in May and will have to log in significant amounts of hours!  However, I will be craving even more my rest days, so we will see if I can keep up with the frequency of the workouts!

I did an open water swim in Lake Atitlan today (a beautiful lake surrounded by 3 volcanoes at 5k mts above sea level) and it was a good workout due to choppy water conditions.

Today - swam 45:04, 1790 mts

Barely hanging in there with you guys.  Although there will be no prestigious award here, I'm thankful for the two days of meeting the minimum (so far).  Yesterday was suppose to be my "off day", I managed to squeeze in a 30m run between church and lunch.  Today, hoping to make up some ground, I started with a cold...ughh.  Both days it felt great to get it in, without the challenge I would not have pushed it.  Great idea!

I did my 30 on the treadmill tonight.  Wore the garmin for heart rate and lap data, but nothing is uploading.  When I search through the workouts the last one logged is yesterday.  I switched it to 'indoor' before starting the workout.  Did I mess up or am I missing something?

Joyce, this is an obvious question, but you did hit start to begin your workout?  If so, have you checked in your Garmin options under "History" > "Biking" to see that your workout is actually there.  If it is, then just try re-posting it again to the BT Site.

I did a Computrainer session (very short) and cannot export the file. I tried a spreadsheet that had to be converted to a .txt file and then a .erg extension file. My mind is in a blur, I spun that thing for 30'02" and I have no clue on how hard/fast I went.

Tomorrow I'm calling the CT people.

LOL! I did think of that and was 'pretty sure' I hit the start button.  I just went on the watch and checked the history.  It's on there and I can view it under running but it would not upload?  Hmmm, going to try again.  Thanks for the quick feedback!

I did a cross-fit session for 40 minutes and then 40 minutes swim and 40 minute ride - just counting swim and ride = 80 minutes.  according to BT plan, I should be doing another 30 minute on trainer tonight.  if i get it done, i will repost and increase time for 2 days.

The challenge could be that the workout was recorded under "run" instead of "bike" on your Garmin and you are trying to upload it in the BT site under "bike".  If it doesn't work, try uploading it under "run" on the BT site and then if it works, manually copy the data into the "bike" section of the page and erase it from the "run" section

That is one of my favorite places, you are making me miss Guatemala. Someplace on you tube is video of me jumping off a cliff near San Lucas Tolimon.

That did the trick!  My two day total is off a whisker because I had to guesstimate when it didn't upload.  Will fix it tomorrow.  Thanks again!

Bike trainer...arm and leg warmers...neoprene shoe covers...long running thighs...windbrakers...those are a a few of my favorite things, that I don't have!

So after raiding my winter clothing inventory, my outfit for tomorrow will consist of:

Top: long sleeve tech shirt - regular bike jersey - athletic fit fleece sweater

Bottom: reguar bike shorts, regular socks, regular bike shoes

Accesories: skiing head band (covering ears), whitewater rafting gloves (good grip, some padding).

Actually looking forward to the ride, in a masochistic kind of way. Sure my legs will get cold, but I am not a cold-prone person. Just need to make sure to get to 30 min. Now about the swim on wednesday at 30 degree weather...

I would take my hat off to the crew here that trains in freezing temperatures and snow, but if I take my hat off my ears will freeze, sorry! Tongue out

If you can get a pair of tights you will be all set. I don't know the answer, but my kidneys always get cold. That is why I put my bike on a trainer when the temps drop below 40 F.

Weight today was 164.6...big old brunch of high sodium Dim Sum with my in-laws yesterday didn't help.  Think I have about 3 pounds of water that I'm carrying.

Regarding cycling outdoors in winter...I don't do it often.  Never road biking as I worry about ice too much.  I will mountain bike which allows me to wear wool socks and bundle up more than on the road bike.  Also don't get going as fast so wind chill isn't that bad.  All-in-all, the trainer is where it's at for me.  Biggest worry is getting too hot and I fix that with a fan and can always cycle in just shorts.  Plus I get to watch sportscenter or football while I cycle.

So here are my final numbers for 2011!

It is exciting to look back at what each one of us has accomplished during the year.  In my case, 2011 was the year when I started training and got to do my first Sprint tri in March (and became hooked), my first HIM in August and my first Marathon in October.  I never would have guessed at the beginning of the year that I was going to log in all this hours and have so much fun while doing it (even less, that I would be shooting for an Ironman a year later!)

It is also nice to see the improvements we are making as a result of hard work along with the valuable advice from Ernesto and of all the group's members!  In my case I remember when Ernesto first saw my log and he pointed out that my HR was very high.  I basically was going anaerobic in most of my workouts thinking that pushing myself all the time was the way to go.  Also his comments about "going slower in order to be able to go faster later on" really did not made any sense to me back then, but now its a different story!

2011 totals
Bike:148h 47m 40s  - 2425.93 Mi
Run:188h 28m 51s  - 1218.44 Mi
Swim:66h 23m 48s  - 137800 M

 Total Hours: 403h 40m

Gabe, things will look even better than this at the end of this year. Ironman Texas will be your greatest race so far because you're putting all your hard work and intelligence into it. I'm very proud of you, not in a condescending way at all, I look up to you because you're driven beyond belief. Glad to have you in the team buddy! Now we have to do a race together after IMTX.
