Subject: RE: TAN #179-It's smart to use a protecTANt.My gym used to have curtains on the shower stalls. When you were done, you would leave the curtain open and anyone could see that the shower was clearly open. About a year ago they switched to solid door that swung shut no matter what; from the outside, you could not tell whether or not the stall was occupied. On the first day, during the few minutes that I was in the shower, there was a steady chorus of, "Whoops! Sorry 'bout that" as doors were opened to occupied showers. Within two days (literally, no more ), without a word needing to be spoken, everyone started throwing their towel over the door rather than using the hook inside the shower as a clear "Someone's in here!" signal. Sort of funny and somewhat interstesting that the locker room immediately and informally adopted an effective method of communication to avoid the awkwardness, but after that I didn't really think about it again. So today, I go to the gym and find a sliding latch on the inside of the shower door, which suggests that at least some members were really, really bent out of shape about the possiblity of someone accidentally opening their door for the split second before they realized the the shower was in use. I want privacy in the shower, but this struck me as somewhat insecure. |
