If you are really bored and procrastinating on a workout you can go Like the post at SwimEx on facebook. I feel weird telling you guys about and there is no pressure to do so, just thought I would put it out there. I have a pic of me at the Sacramento River where the NorCal was held 2 weeks ago. (I won't bug you about it in the future). But it is kid of weird how you can get random manufacturers to chip in a few bucks or toss you some gear, even a local restaurant or something if you don't mind putting a logo on something or making a kid post on their webpage or whatever. Of course, you should like their product for reals and not just do it cuz you want their stuff, at least that is my thought on it. Oh well off to bed. Found it and liked. Ironically, Fall River Ma. is about 10 minutes from where I lived and the city I was born in....not to mention the city my dad was a police officer in for 27 years! |

Veteran 560 | Subject: RE: Baowolf's New Years Resolution Group-Closed (if are stuck with no group PM me) Mitzi - Fantastic job losing 9 pounds! So excited to hear you making progress Isabella - that amount of snow is wild. I've never lived anywhere that was dumped on, but it's something I've always thought would be cool. I can't blame you for not wanting to run. Steve - Cool opportunities seem to fall in your lap more often than not. Great job on that swim! There were a few days around my birthday where I indulged in chocolate and it was amazing. Then on March 5th I started a no sugary junk food challenge and it is going well. After basically eliminating chocolate for so long I find the general desire for sugar has significantly decrased. Feels good! I have applied for grad school. It looks like I may need an additional surgery. I've been running consistently - I'm up to 8 miles for a long this week. I have started running outside again and I forgot how nice it really is and the miles tick by so much faster. Biking has not been as consistent and swimming is still not allowed. Not exactly sure how the problems with my hand is going to impact the HIM I'm planning to do. Still too early to make any decisions. All-in-all things are going well. Great job everyone! |

Expert 1608 Grapevine, Texas | Subject: RE: Baowolf's New Years Resolution Group-Closed (if are stuck with no group PM me) Hey all! Mitzi - great to hear of your weight loss! 9 lbs is a LOT, especially on a small framed female, and definitely something to celebrate. Samantha - sorry to hear about the hand not healing up as well as hoped. Sounds like you are doing what you can and have a great attitude. Congrats on the grad school. It's been great seeing your work life catch fire over the last year or so. Linda - really nice race on tired legs! Your run fitness is awesome. You are a testament to consistent smart training. Steve - congrats on the sponsorships. Its nice to see good things come your way! Jay - hope the schedule is moderating some for you. So glad you are in a better work environment....a worth it change for sure! Isabella - wow!!!! Looks like a giant igloo out your window! Mike D - glad you are bouncing back! I'm always amazed at how well/quickly your swim comes back. Pam - I'm feeling sore just thinking about that obstacle race you did! Great job embracing the adventure. Had some weird lab results after being sick a week or so ago. Createnine (kidney function) and a couple of the electrolytes came back a bit off, which for a type 1 diabetic is scary since kidney disease is a common complication. But retest once I was feeling better came back in the normal range. Whew! Bike has been dusted off in preparation for a gran fondo ride through the bluebonnets at the end of the month. LOL, my "long" ride is now 22 miles, and I think we are signed up for 48. I could use some new bike shorts. I tend to mostly ride with minimal padding (tri shorts), but also have some Castelli tights with more padding that I really like. Any ideas on favorite cycling shorts ladies? |

Veteran 439 Dartmouth, Massachusetts | Subject: RE: Baowolf's New Years Resolution Group-Closed (if are stuck with no group PM me) Hey everyone! Today, I found out that I didn't win a Boston number so I'll be focusing my attention back to triathlon training for this year. It has been a struggle for me thus far....many reasons but I'm hoping to get things going in the right direction now that my hours have stabalized and the weather should be warming up soon. I have put on some weight but I haven't really been concerned about it; I like being heavier and lifting heavy weights; and that's what I've been doing with Kiley. However, now that I have a definitive plan, I'll be refocusing on dieting down again. I'm thinking of going back to low carb again because I had some success but cycle in carbs before/during workouts. I don't know how that'll go but that's the plan for now. No Boston also means that I'll be playing in the basketball tournament on the Saturday before the marathon.....and I haven't touched a ball since my AT. I'm excited but nervous. Carol: I'm glad your scare turned out to be only that! Mitzi: Congrats on the weight loss! Mike D: I'm thinking Pumpkinman is going to be my A race for this year. I'll let you know when I register....it may be as soon as tonight. Elena: Nice to see you pop up from that rock you've been hiding under |

Steve, cool blog; I 'liked' on FB as well. Jay, sorry about not getting a Boston entry. Isabella, awesome photo! I think I'm in the minority who actually loves snow and the winter. Linda your 1:52 is an awesome time. Haven't updated my training in a while, but my first half-marathon is tomorrow, so I've been tapering the past couple weeks. Based on my training, my under-2:00 goal might be tough because of some elevation gains that I wasn't previously considering. 2:06 is a second goal that i'd still be happy with. I was able to get some swim practice and bike commute miles in this week, but my focus has definitely been this race tomorrow. Exciting! I'll be sure to report my race afterwards. |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Baowolf's New Years Resolution Group-Closed (if are stuck with no group PM me) Nail that race Phil. Jay, high tops.... warm up good before you just hit the court. Boston is coming up quickly. I heard it is going to have 9000 more runners this year. Long workout weekend here and I am still spent from my half mile repeats. That is the downside of a recovery week, you then have energy that you can spend too quickly. I need to really tear my plan apart so I understand it better. I have just been following it. I need to compare it to my approach to my previous 4 IMs. I am still torn about next year. IMTX is sooo far away, driving 2500 miles after an IM in 2 days without cruise control could be hurtful. I took a peak at one of the IM Canada races but it falls right smack in the middle of summer, hard to hit another race on either side of it. Linda, you recovered from your race yet... don't see any of your runs in your log and Boston is coming up quickly. On a side note spring must be coming, ran into my first swarms of insects and the Sandhill Crains have come back to nest. They are none to happy with my running route through the bird refuge. Take care of yourself and listen closely to your body. I have autoimmune disease that can creep up in a second. Always have to be cautious. Phil, you have got your race! Have fun and kick some butt! Steve, I am slowly recovering from my half, and I will continue to go at easy and then ramp it back up. Just finished my long run, 21 miles in 3:01. 1st half easy, 2nd half marathon pace. Wow nice 21 miler on not 100% legs at 8:37. You are going to crush Boston. However the constant hills and very heavy traffic may detract a bit from your overall time, but you are soo going to rock it. You are doing everything possible to hit it with speed, strength and over the top endurance. |

Member 1293 Pearland,Tx | Subject: RE: Baowolf's New Years Resolution Group-Closed (if are stuck with no group PM me) Hello Eveyone , I went for my long ride yesterday and so far its my most brutal 70 miler at the start of the ride i slipped and crashed i sprained my wrist and had bruises on my left shoulder and left knee. I have 69 miles to go and had hard time maintaining aero. I just stuck it out and it rained the first hour. I was riding wet and wet roads after. I am glad i am wearing my trisuit. The roads did not gave me a break.I dont really mind the rolling hills thats what i am after, but i have to run into 7miles of Chipseal roads. 2 miles of gravel. I am suprised i did not get a flat.It rained again in the middle of the ride .After 55 miles I really jut want to go home and rest. I just went from cruise control then saw the finish line head for my car had my bruises check by EMS and drove home tired. Any help of recovering from a sprained wrist i appreciate? ill try to swim it tomorrow and see how it is. I have a hilly ride again next saturday 62 miler it has 20-60% chance of rain. I dont mind the rain but going downhill on wet roads worries me or just do a long Flat 79 miler next week? advice?? @Steve I just liked your Swim Ex article on FB. @Samantha/Steve I hear alot bonking in IM Bike usually is at 80mi + would it be a good idea to start getting use to 80 milers early on @Phil Congrats on the Half Marathon!!!! @Carol I did know you had Type 1 ,I am a recovering type 2. You will be one of those ill remember on Tour De Cure this year. @Isabelle So thats how a pile of snow looks like. Cheers Carl Edited by strykergt 2014-03-16 10:14 AM |

Veteran 560 | Subject: RE: Baowolf's New Years Resolution Group-Closed (if are stuck with no group PM me) Carl- I'm so impressed that you finished that ride after such a hard fall. Minus your fall I had similarly difficult rides last year and I know that you, like me, will be stronger for it. Riding courses that are like race day in all kinds of weather is important because on race day you don't get to choose. It would be a major bummer if you had never learned what it feels like to ride in the rain and then race day was wet. So good job on that. For your wrist, if it hurts don't do it. Sprain take a while to heal so try to baby it as much as you can. For next weekend I would see how you are feeling. I often alternated hilly course with flat course. My experience tells me bonking doesn't need to happen at any point of yor race. Unless you can't keep your calories in (vomiting/diahrea) or you are not taking in enough you should be fine. I think the calorie intake on the bike is 250-350/hour. On training rides you can wait until you've been ridig for approx. 1.5hrs to start taking in calories, but on race day you take calories in from the beginning, particularly on longer races. |

Expert 1608 Grapevine, Texas | Subject: RE: Baowolf's New Years Resolution Group-Closed (if are stuck with no group PM me) Jay, sorry about Boston. Good plan you have going on based on that knowledge. Whoa, Carl, that was a tough ride! Where did you go to find those hills? Samantha is right....priority #1 is to arrive at the starting line healthy, so take care of that wrist! Hey, I'm doing this event at the end of the month and I think it's closer to where you are. http://www.granfondotexastmco.com/ Any tips on terrain and such? Hoping for flat and smooth! Congrats on keeping the T2 at bay, and glad to hear you are doing the TDC. I'm sitting this year out, but they are wonderful events. I wore my red rider jersey yesterday and wound up talking to two other T1 random strangers out on the road! Linda, what are your plans after Boston? It's going to be fun to cheer you on....like Steve said, you are set to have a really good day out there! Got in 30 miles on the bike yesterday, and hopefully do 40 next weekend, which should set me up to have a decent (translated not too painful) day riding 48 by the end of the month. My saddle (Cobb vflow max) has developed a slit in it on the front of the nose. I don't think duct tape is going to do the trick on that, so time to do a little online shopping. Got new gloves yesterday at the Pearl Izumi outlet, and ordered some Castelli Perla bike shorts online. My old gloves have a hole in them, strings hanging out, and are filthy, but they were my first, so having a hard time parting with them. |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Baowolf's New Years Resolution Group-Closed (if are stuck with no group PM me) Carl, sorry about your ride, not sure I would have finished, done most of what you did after the fall. Time for some one arm drills in the pool 8). I hope your wrist is just banged and not sprained. Yes avoid painful activity. Ice etc. Muscle pulls take about 6 weeks to heal unless you stress them, bangs and bruises heal much faster 1-2 weeks. You will know when it stops hurting which you have. As it was I did 75 miles on the trainer and was still pretty tanked from my other workouts. I ended up taking a few minutes rest ever 5 miles after about mile 35. But I was on the trainer, so it didn't really matter. Todays 12 mile run went well. It is just that point in the training where fatigue can build up on you. Stay safe out there guys. |

Veteran 439 Dartmouth, Massachusetts | Subject: RE: Baowolf's New Years Resolution Group-Closed (if are stuck with no group PM me) So after volunteering last year at my favorite HM, today I ran it. It was ugly but that's not exactly a shock considering I haven't hit the pavement since fall. Despite the eye opening horrific time I put it, I love the race. I love running for my deceased friend and Team Owen.....and as usual, both were represented in my garb. Legs are very sore and probably will be for a day or two but my cardio was good.....I just don't have endurance on my legs. Now there is raw data to confirm where I am and I'm not pleased......sometimes thats what I need, a real eye opening to get my arse in gear. It was even more disturbing to see some of the runners around me who HAVE trained and struggle that much. Carl: Kudos for getting that bike in after the fall. Like Steve, I'm not sure I would've done that but that is certainly a mental toughness checkmark on your side! |

Expert 1608 Grapevine, Texas | Subject: RE: Baowolf's New Years Resolution Group-Closed (if are stuck with no group PM me) Jay, glad you got to run the race and remember your friend. It actually sounds like a good sign that your cardio fitness is there. The rest will take time/patience, but I have no doubt you will get there. Steve, sorry you're in a tough patch. Know you've been there before and will come out the other side stronger. So I found out today that my friend who I was supposed to do the Gran Fondo with fell while snow boarding. She likely re-tore her rotator cuff (had surgery on it a couple years ago). We were going to drive down together and stay at her parents place which is near the ride start. Ride is a no-go. Hopefully the shoulder will not require another surgery. Trying to chalk it up to "not meant to be", but yeah, disappointing. At least I'm only out the $45 entry fee. |

Jay- Glad you had a good run in the remembrance of your friend. Hey everyone I hope all is well. I need your opinion. I have still not got fitted on 2012 Cervelo P2 58 cm ultra. Member 183 Alexandria, Virginia | Subject: RE: Baowolf's New Years Resolution Group-Closed (if are stuck with no group PM me) Thanks for all the support with my first HM! Rock n Roll DC went very well. Official time was 2:01:25. A little slower than I'd liked, but still very proud of the time. I actually thought I was on pace to break 2:00 according to my watch, but as you know there can be discrepancies with the official course and a personal device. My Tomtom had me at 1.31 mi, with a 9:08 pace (a 9:09 pace should've put me under 2hr). As with many big races, maybe the zig-zagging to pass people added the extra 0.2 mi. My average heartwate was 170 BPM. I ran the whole thing with my coworker Alex. Everyone was clamoring about a big hill at mile 6, but I reached it and I was fresh and ready for it. Alex wasn't as prepared so I cheered/encouraged him through it. My legs were on fire by mile 10, and I would've definitely slowed my pace had it not been for Alex. He returned the favor and pulled me through to the finish line. We celebrated by attending an all-you-can-drink 'Shamrock Beer Bash' in Washington, DC, that featured 36 microbreweries and 10 food trucks. Exhausting weekend! I'll write out a more in-depth race report sometime this week. I'm hoping for another huge snow day in Virginia/DC tomorrow! Carl sorry to hear about the unfortunate spill there. Hope you heal up quickly. Jay, congrats on the HM! As far as soreness goes, I'm right with you there. My knees took a beating! Carol-sucks to hear about your friend's snowboarding accident. It's an awesome sport but it can definitely be dangerous at times. I sprained/strained a rotator cuff a few years back on the slopes too, and have had plenty of other friends suffer snowboarding injuries. I know it's always a 10x better time when riding with friends but would you consider doing the gran fondo solo? I'm sure it'll be an awesome ride, you'll meet some people, and get some training/fitness benefits along the way. Jhight, I'm 5'11 with a 31 (approx) inseam and a 58 would stretch me out, but everyone's body geometries are different. If you don't want to pay the $150 I suggest just test riding both sizes at a LBS. Most of the time the workers can eyeball you and could suggest one size or another pretty easily (though they won't tune your stack height or stem length etc.). And while testing the two sizes, keep the adjustable parts of the cockpit in mind: fore/aft adj and height of saddle, stem length, and height, those can all be changed and fine-tuned. |

Expert 1608 Grapevine, Texas | Subject: RE: Baowolf's New Years Resolution Group-Closed (if are stuck with no group PM me) Nice race Phil! I loved reading about the push/pull with your friend. Takes me back to my first half under 2:00....happened the exact same way. When you are evenly matched and each person is strong at a different point in the race, it is a beautiful thing. Thanks for the suggestion on doing the ride by myself. You are right that I actually do enjoy that because I tend to talk to strangers/learn more when I don't have a friend to chat with. But this one is a 4 hour drive each way, and the plan was to stay with her folks. Just not worth it to drive 8 hours and stay in a hotel for a road rally I'm not even particularly trained up for when there are plenty closer to home throughout the season. |
