And we finished off dragging a tire around the building (TOUGH!) and then Jay and I wanted to try the slosh pipe, a giant ~10 foot long PVC pipe capped off and filled about halfway with water so it sloshes around as you try to run with it.
You guys have a prowler?? That would be good stuff.

god yes, I hate the prowler! We used it Wed night (and ours is pink for added effect!). Also have a regular rectangular sled to push around. Both are done indoors though, but still tough as hell. |

Sounds like like how I spend summers during my teens. 20 yard dashes with 150 pounds of weight. Now that's anaerobic training. Seriously, if anyone wants an anaerobic workout do football training.abqtj - 2011-11-18 2:34 PM uhcoog - 2011-11-18 12:38 PM abqtj - 2011-11-18 1:23 PM Another fun boot camp day, lots of new exercises. Pro 4672 Nutmeg State | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED Michele is running the Philly Half today. I set it up so I get text message updates for here, I'll let you know how she does. Today is my last official day of rest (I actually took a power yoga class yesterday and I'll be going to yoga again today). Its going to be interesting getting up early tomorrow morning to lift and swim. Goals for today are to REALLY clean the house and to head over to Erica's and teach her how to use kettlebells. I may have to take pictures. |

Extreme Veteran 3020 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED Michele - Good luck! Kelly - Enjoy your last day of rest!! Karen - I've been eating paleo-ish, too, and I'm finding it hard to focus on the animal protein (no read meat for 10+ years and no white meat for 5 years). I've cut all grains out of my diet except those eaten during and after my workout window. I also freely eat sweet potatoes. It seems silly to cut those from our dinners. Anyway, I lost 2 lbs. this week doing this, so I'm hopeful I'll go into Thanksgiving - 3 lbs. I'm not going to restrict during Thansgiving, but I'm going to go for more of the turkey and veggies vs. the stuffing and potatoes. I HAVE to eat the sweet potatoes. They are one of my favorite foods. Long run this morning. Legs felt pretty sore around mile 10, but I fought through until I hit 12. My hip is feeling strange. It's not injured or anything. It feels like I have little spasms in it sometimes. Bizarre. Anyway, later I'm going to shop for clothes for me and the kids. My mother is having family pictures taken of Thanksgiving (totally not my thing), and we have to have stinkin brown shirts. LOL Enjoy the rest of your weekend, friends! |

Master 2538 Albuquerque | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED Morning all! Good luck in the half today, Michele. Is anyone doing a Turkey Trot or something along those lines for Thanksgiving? I've got a 5k that morning. I just realized I haven't run a 5k race in about 20 years, just the 5k within the sprints. Should be fun. So I guess no matter what, it'll be a PR since I don't know my old times |

Pro 4723 CyFair | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED So Friday I wasn't feeling like getting up to train, but did so because I hate rush hour traffic. Woke up yesterday sore as hell, and today just run down. This weekend is shaping up into a rest weekend. I may get on the trainer later, maybe not. Oh and the CPR class teacher emails me yesterday saying there isn't enough enrollees to warrant teaching the class today. WTF? Nice notice. I get it $$$ wise but some notice would have been nice. |

Master 2151 Johns Creek, Georgia | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED Kelly - I'm very interested in doing kettle bells. How does one get started? I'm thinking of signing up with a friend for a session at the gym with one of the fitness instructors to see if it's something I would like. Jen - I'm doing similar to what you're doing. I have dropped a few pounds too, but am still up from where I was back in September. I really like tofu, and depending on what you read, you're not supposed to have that. But today I'm going to a vegetarian restaurant for lunch and I'm getting tofu!!! I'm planning on loading up on turkey & green beans at Thanksgiving, but will also have some of the dressing my husband makes. It's a vegan recipe and I cannot pass it up. Just a small portion though I hope. A sweet potato vs. mashed potatoes (which are not my favorite anyway) sounds good. Do you have a recipe or do you just bake it and eat plain? Scott - sounds like you needed the rest. Steve - I'm running the Thanksgiving half marathon Thursday morning. I've run it every year that I've lived in Georgia (from when I started running). It's a tradition for me, and a lot of fun to go out with tons of people, run 13 miles, and then feel like you earned your turkey. I've decided I'm not tapering for this run, I'm just planning on running whatever pace is comfortable and having fun. I'm more interested in getting these extra pounds off by continuing to workout this week, than having a fast race. |

Extreme Veteran 863 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED Back from Philly...what a beautiful day to run! Perfect temps! I am pretty happy with the results. Officially ran a 2:05, but the course was long at 13.33. I got to 13.1 at 2:03 and the end was no where in sight! The first half I ran the first 10K in 56:53 - was really happy with that, but then the back half had a big hill that killed me for a bit and I lost time there. I ran a couple miles at an 8:45, but averaged 9:30 for the race overall.
So do I count this as 2:05 knowing the course was long or go by my watch and use the 13.1 time? |

Master 2151 Johns Creek, Georgia | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED Nice racing Michele. I had a similar experience with Savannah, my GPS showed it as 26.35 so when I hit 26.2 I was at my goal time. But, like you said the end was no where in sight. I'm going with my official time for the total race regardless of how long it was. I could have ran some of the turns on the outside vs. inside, and I think when they measure a course it's measured using the inside corners and what not. I'm not sure of that, but Kelly would know. Anyway, you should be very proud of your time, nice job! |

Expert 1121 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED Hope everyone had a great weekend. My last 5 weekends have been crazy trying to build a 16x18 outdoor shed. I am pretty handy for an insurance guy, and have built the entire thing myself, other than some help lifting the roof trusses. Finsihed 3/4 of the siding today. One more weekend and I'll be done. I hate this getting dark at 4:00 crap!! So after taking a couple weeks off from running, again, due to IT band issues, going to attempt it again this week. Let's hope the issue is gone. Trainer tmrw morning, and gym in the afternoon. Have a great night. |

So do I count this as 2:05 knowing the course was long or go by my watch and use the 13.1 time? Awesome job! Its a 2:05. Courses are measured at the tangents and in a big race like Philly, unless your way out front your going to add on additional mileage going around corners and running around people. Anywhere up to about an extra half mile in a half marathon is "normal." |
