Happy thanksgiving. Just finished my local 3.5 race (advertised as 3.8). Very small event. 61 people. Ran a 6:58 pace. Good enough for 7th place overall. Then I ran back to my car instead of getting a ride. 30 year old friend won the race. But the other 5 that finished ahead of me were all under 18, including a 15 year old. Crazy. Had a little pain in that IT Band. Nothing serious but it's really starting to irritate me that I have rested it but it won't go away. Have a great day

Karen - I feel your pain with the carbs...What kind of dr are you going to for your spine? I am having issues with my neck/arm and I think it is stemming from a cervical disk.

He's a spine specialist/ortho.  I saw him almost a year ago when I was having pain down my arm and numbness in my fingers for several months.  MRI showed herniated disc in neck (C6 C7 I think).  I wasn't having any pain in my neck, just on my right shoulder blade, and several spots on my right arm.  The top of my wrist hurt so bad I wanted to curl up into a ball and cry.  It was one of the most painful things I've been through, and it took a long time before anyone thought to schedule the MRI.  I should have insisted on having one sooner.  I suggested it, but the x-rays didn't indicate the need for one.  Anyway, one cortisone injection near the disc and it finally went away.

I don't know if I'm now having a problem with my lower spine.  I don't have any back pain, but the back of my leg hurts so bad I'm wondering if there's a pinched nerve somewhere.  I just really liked this guy, and hope he can help me.

I would see an orthopedic if you have not already.  Hope it goes away soon, I know it's not fun.

Karen, that is exactly what is going on with me....It is so painful and I am SO cranky the longer it goes on (just ask my kids). I had an MRI for this problem late last year that showed herniated disks. The dr, I saw said surgery was my only option and I said no thanks and eventually it just went away after ignoring it ( and I think I did some internet recommended exercises). It has been 2 weeks since it acutely started again and I hate it. I won't go back to that dr. I have to find an orthopedic that I trust - if I knew how, I would just inject myself!!

I'm 2 years+ post herniated L5-S1 disc.  It still gives me some trouble but as long as i keep my core strong and weight down i am okay.  I treated with oral steroids and got lucky that the pain went away.  Have you considered seeing a neurosurgeon that specializes in spines and sports medicine?  Sometimes they are less interested in operating than orthos.  The ortho group i went to had a neurosurgeon who was very good and understanding, younger guy (our kids play sports together) athletic, etc.  I hate going to doctors who are not athletes as they dont get it.

So my friend that was running the Thanksgiving Half with me today decided late yesterday that she didn't really want to drive downtown for the race.  They changed the course last year from a really cool point to point, to a big loop starting and ending at Turner field.  I didn't mind the course, it goes through some cool parts of Atlanta, but the parking last year sucked!!  We sat in the parking lot for almost 2 hours trying to get out of one exit because they were too stupid to open up other exits.  Anyway, she didn't want to do that again, so we decided to just run near home.  I mapped out a brutal hilly 14 mile run, because if we were not going to do the race we paid for, I was going to make her suffer and run longer.  We ran the 14 miles, walked a mile to Starbuck's, grabbed coffee, and walked another 2.5 miles back to our cars.  She was cursing me, but I had fun.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Painfully slow 5k this morning.  They asked those of us schmucks with jogging strollers to start in the back with the walkers.  OMG.  Too many people, going too slow, in too small of a space.  I did manage to trip an older gentleman with the stroller.  I apologized and he proceeded  to cuss me out.  40:46 by my watch even having to weave, walk, and what felt like jog in place for good portions of the run.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Just back from my 5k Turkey Trek and got a PR!

Well, it's a PR because I haven't officially done a 5k stand alone in over 20 years anyway. I wanted to beat 10min/mile and I did it is 9:36/mile for a 30:25 total (course was long on my Garmin, as well as 3 friend's Garmins).

Had fun, now it's time to fire up the smoker and get the turkey going.

What styles are you looking at?  The Blades and Konas run true to size, I found the K-Ruuz to run a little bit small.  Shaun and I just ordered 4 pairs (2 each).  Way too good of a deal to pass up.

Glad everyone had a good Thanksgiving. Our little Turkey trot brough about 35 people. At the last minute our County Rec department advertised a 3rd annual Turkey trot that no one had heard of before. It started hour before ours. I also got a notice at the last minute it was canceled because they weren't supposed to run on the newly paved walking trail. But I guess they did nay way. But more people got out and did something anyway.

It was a tough 8 miles I laid out with rolling hills and a tough climb to the turn around point. We had some serious runners who had a great time and loved the course. All in all a success.

I waddled my way through the whole course and finished even though my calf was screaming. Tired of waiting for a resolution so I guess i will just try and train as hard as I can even if it is killing me.

Nice new avatar.

Up early for yoga, then a 3 hour ride.  Its supposed to hit 65 here today so I'm hoping to get most of the ride done outside.

Off to hit the trails on the mountain bike.  Then the annual Candy Yam Cup is today.  What? You never heard of this? Kidding.  12 frieds play one last round of golf the saturday after thanksgiving every year. Very informal.  We play battle golf.  Simply means, you beat your opponent on a hole, you get to take any club away from them in their bag (they still carry it, but can't use it until they earn it back) You can lose just about all your clubs.  Pretty fun actually.

And def getting a road ride in tomorrow as it is supposed to be 60 again today and tomorrow.

Have a great saturday.

That sounds like fun.  Do you at least get to keep your putter, so you have something to use?

Planning to run today, after coffee.  Maybe a ride or spin class...
