Up early.  Heading out to run with Jeff-y.  Spent a lot of the weekend working on 1/4 Marathon stuff.  Registration opens December 1.  Its going to be interesting to see how fast it sells out this year.

Ran with Kelly this morning.... Nothing like holding a 160 HR at a 9:30ish pace. Meh. I think I either have tuberculois or a collapsed lung (god forbid for either). I have this theory running while congested makes you stronger. Of course all studies involving hypoxic breathing in swimming have just shown it is not helpful and may lead to stroke. So at least there's that

So we aborted the ride due to unusually high traffic on the route and a 30 mph wind that was blowing us all over the place.  Good thing too because I'm running a fever.  60 miles in 40 degree weather isn't really what I needed I guess.

So my runs this Thanksgiving went good and bad ... The 5k Thanksgiving day was a PR for me, 31:26 (last one in may was 31:43 and a little flatter). The half yesterday, didn't go so well. I was holding my 2:30 pace through 7-8 miles (even making up the previous potty stop), but porta visits started at mile 4.5 and continued the rest of the race unfortunately. Lost 7 minutes alone waiting at 8, then employed a run/walk method from that point on. I have done that race 2x now (last year was my first 1/2 ever) and that race continues to kick my ! Next year I am going to kick it back!Weather was 50, and we were drenched by the end of the race! Soaked to the bone!

Not if 2 weeks ago you were doing 8:55 at 145 for nearly 2x the distance.... but i hear you.  If 6 years ago you told me i would have done any of the stuff i view as routine now, I would have laughed at you.

Man, I have a lot of pages to get through.  LOL   Just a quick check in.  I spent most of the last 4 days drinking and filling my piehole with delish (evil) food.  I bet I gained 5   Anyway, got a couple runs in, but that's about it.  I really enjoyed my time with my parents and 3 sisters.  Don't get to see them often.

Hope you all had a wonderful holiday!  Will read and post more later.

How is it possible to gain 8 lbs. in 5 days? Holy &$@#!!!! I'm sure some of it is water, but my god. That's a lot of baked goods and alcohol right there. Now I'm actually going to have to diet. Blech.

I would guess that at least 7 of the 8 lbs is water.  When you eat a lot of carbs your body needs to retain a ton of water to process the carbs.  If eat clean this week, I think you'll "loose" the 8 lbs by next week.

I'm up a considerable amount of weight too, and not happy about it.  But I do think most is water, and getting back on track it should drop off (most of it anyway) pretty quickly.  I overdid the bad carbs pretty much all weekend.  Why is beer so tasty?  Oh, and my husband has started brewing beer.  His first batch will be ready in a week or two.  It's supposed to be similar to Stone Arrogant Ba$tard, which I love.  I must resist!

My doctor appt. with the spine guy tomorrow had to be moved to Thursday due to a conference call tomorrow afternoon.  ARRRR!!!!!  I really need to see him, it's getting harder and harder to put socks and shoes on.

I took the Ridgeback for a run this morning and she ran like a well trained dog!  Shocked the heck out of me, she usually pulls and gets in my way.  Not this morning, she was at my side trotting along like a good girl.  Maybe the darkness and lack of people/other dogs are the key.  She gets easily distracted and there really wasn't much going on in the dark.

Hope everyone has a great day!

You are very lucky, Briggs' running volume has declined because of pulling (too hard on long runs) ... unforunately there are an unusual amount of squirels around us and as a lab, he needs to try and chase everyone.  I just try and see ahead of him so I can brace myself.  If two squirels are chasing each other up a tree, I just stop ...

Good luck with the doctor.  Tried last week to find out what was wrong, but couldn't find the beginning of the thread.

I had back surgery on my L5 about 5 years ago.  I was nearly incapacitated from a herniated disc.  2 rounds of epidurals didn't work, surgery was my best option.  It worked for me.  My only issue now is I can't stand still for any more than a few minutes.  So you will see me dancing around usually, but that is my only side affect ... and I have to keep core work up

Hey Carrie - what happened with your shoes?  Did you figure out what ate them up?  Or get a free replacement pair?

I have not gotten to Road Runner Sports yet, but I think I know what did it ... while I have been trying to change my running gait, I was (and maybe still am when I get fatigued) a massive heel striker, so my guess is that as I landed each time, my heel would beat the crap out of the heel in the shoe.  My heel strike in a pic from months ago was so bad my foot landed at about a 40 degree angle to the ground, heel first.

I also wear a splint at night after longer runs because my plantar faciatis can be so bad the next morning.  With the splint, no pain whatsoever in the am because it keeps me stretched out all night.

My pics don't really show any ridiculous wear they are pretty even from side to side and frong to back ... now (white shoes have 100+ miles, pink about 40+)

Survey Says: Bronchitis!

When i told the doctor i ran 4 miles on saturday and 7+ miles sunday he laughed at me and said: "that was really dumb".  I explained my theory about hypoxic breathing and the "known" benefits to swimmers, blah, blah (hey i'm a lawyer) he said "not buying what your selling counselor" and then "it really isnt a good idea to run when you cant breathe".  I said we would agree to disagree and his response was "I am actually a doctor" and something about me just being wrong... pretty much zoned out at that point.  So, I got some drugs.

Tomorrows tempo run is going to hurt. (Dont tell my doctor).

So what is it group are you a Zombie or a Vampire?  Most triathletes are definitely vampires, but Rudy and I are zombies.
