I may have missed something, but I don't see any races on your calendar?  Why push it by continuing to run when you are sick?  It will only take longer to heal and you will only run yourself down further ... I am not a doctor or a lawyer though

Taken 11 of the last 14 days off. 5k on 12/11. Was to be a PR try, now it's a fun run. Maybe I'll try cross fit LOL

When i told the doctor i ran 4 miles on saturday and 7+ miles sunday he laughed at me and said: "that was really dumb".  I explained my theory about hypoxic breathing and the "known" benefits to swimmers, blah, blah (hey i'm a lawyer) he said "not buying what your selling counselor" and then "it really isnt a good idea to run when you cant breathe".  I said we would agree to disagree and his response was "I am actually a doctor" and something about me just being wrong... pretty much zoned out at that point.  So, I got some drugs.  

Tomorrows tempo run is going to hurt. (Dont tell my doctor).

That sucks, dude.  At least you got the meds.  You ought to feel good to go within 48 hours. 

That article on zombie v. vampires is pretty funny.  I'm definitely a vampire

Up for an easy 8 early this a.m.  Hitting the gym for weights and short swim tonight.  I lost 5 of the 8 lbs. I gained over Thanksgiving, so I guess some of it was water.  I'm hopeful that Kelly was right and another 1-2 lbs. will drop off quickly. 

3 of my 4 kids are literally coughing their brains out (like you, Jeff).  They've vomited a few times, they've coughed that hard.  I think everyone is going to the doc after school.  I'm worried we have something major on our hands here.  My cough is still going strong, but it's nowhere near what my children are dealing with.  You should have heard our house last night!!  The poor things!

For those combining swimming and lifting....do you swim and then lift?  Or lift and then swim?  I'm going to try the combo on Tuesday and Thursday nights.

I do the opposite, but that's because I like an empty pool.  If I go to the pool at 7 a.m. its packed.  If I lift first and head down at 8 a.m. I get an open lane.

Nope, just have never felt refreshed.  I always feel like crap when i work out.  Just depends on the degree.

Similarly I've never (a) had more or less energy due to exercise, (b) been sicker/healthier due to exercise, (c) have a better self image due to exercise, (d) felt less hungry due to exercise, (e) been more productive at work due to exercise..... The only difference: my waistline and overall health, which, i suppose, is important.... But, hy, I'm a Zombie so i just plod along.

well, i just finished up my second largest run mileage total month ever, and probably had the most days running ever.

And still only ran half of what Kell-y would run, HAHAHA

30 more miles in December and I double last years total.  Good start for what will be 2012.

goal for december is around 70-75 miles

 

Jeff-y, glad you are feeling better, just make sure you are in beer drinking hot dog eating shape for next weekend.

and for those that ride the trainer, here is a pretty accurate power chart from Kurt kinetic

for my findings the chart is pretty accurate, my intervals run around 24-25mph for 2-5 mins when at FTP, it equals around 375-415 watts or so.

I ran my 1000th mile this morning   I went from the couch to running after I had Frederick in Feb. 2010.  It's beginning to feel natural.  I'm pretty proud of this accomplishment. 

I took my kids to the doctor after school yesterday.  I have 3 with sinus infections, and my youngest Frederick has double ear infections.  The doctor suspects he has asthma, too, as his wheezing is indicative of it.  I am to give him 3 breathing treatments a day with the nebulizer for the next week and then take him back to the doc.  The others were put on antibiotics, too.  They were completely wild in the doctor's office, and I was spent by the time I got home.

Really solid run month.  I put in some decent time on the bike, too.  Start Jorge's plan next week, so mileage ought to bump up in December, though I am taking some days off for the holidays.

I didn't end up lifting last night (only swimming), because my husband didn't get home from work until 7, and I refuse to be at the gym until 10.  I decided I'm going to swim and then lift, even though I hate going upstairs smelling like a chlorine ball.  My swim would totally suck if I did it after the lifting.  I'm only swimming twice a week (around 3000 meters), so I have to make it count.

Do you have a Kurt Kinetic?  The chart only works for that trainer; correct? 

 

yes that is what i have, and i would say that any decent fluid trainer would be i the realm of accuracy acceptance.

it is only a guideline regardless, putting in an honest effort while on the trainer/road is more important than any little electric device giving you a number on the screen.

as i always say, race times do not lie, you either put in the work or you didn't

Hi guys.  No fever, no swollen glads, so workout time.  Felt like a fat slob lately.  Not going to step on a scale until mid week next week because of it too.

 

As far as the lifting/swimming thing I'm with Jeff.  Swim then lift.  Swimming being such a form driven sport I don't like feeling fatigued or having a pump in a muscle that is restricting movement, etc. 

This month was so, so for me.
