Good morning, all.  Started Jorge's winter cycling program this morning.  Good times

Do you have any favorite calorie counting sites (not apps...no ipad or iphone here)?  Calorie couting is not my thing, but I must get it together before the new year.

Hope you all had a great weekend!!

I've been using the Livestrong Daily Plate/My Plate to track calories.  It's got a pretty large database of foods so it's pretty easy.  Days I don't log, I tend to snack/nibble more, so I'm back to logging today.

Kelly - I like both your shoes, especially the ones on your left foot.  I can't order very many cute girl shoes, stupid feet are too big!

I went trail running yesterday, on a trail I have not done in a while.  It kicked my a$$!  Today I'm very achy, almost like I have the flu.  I hope it's just the trail running, and I'm not getting sick.

I'm a size 8, which is about as generic as it gets size wise.  Nothing ever goes on sale because everyone is a size 8.

I wouldn't worry so much about calories as about tracking macro nutrients (carbs - protein - fat).  If you get your grams of macro nutrients right, your calories will fall into place and it will give you a much better picture of your diet than just calories alone.

So today is the first day it didn't hurt to breathe when I woke up.  Bonus.  Killed a trainer dreadmill brick.  It's drizzling and cold here.

Thinking about getting Cindy some real running shoes for Christmas.  Her current shoes are more cheap training shoes from the New Balance Outlet.  I can't tell if this is a cool idea overall or just a cool idea to me.

I plugged my food in for the day and it says I'm over % DV recommended for me in fat, protein, and fiber.  Hmm.  Fat probably from nuts and seeds.  Didn't really know I ate that much protein either.

Ok, the FDA daily recommended values suck.

Essentially the government wants you eating massive quantities of grains (which the government subsidizes production of), which is not a good way to go.  There are lots of theories out there about how much of what you should eat, but I've never seen anyone who knows what they're talking about go with the FDA recommendations.

x 100000

The FDA is a bunch of fing morons.  The same people who allow oral steroids to be legal, but want to ban salt.  I say start at a generic split.  Something like 40% protein/40% carbs/20% fats and tinker from there.  If I recall Jen, you want to put some muscle on which means you need to keep your protein intake a little high and then you can give/take from the carbs and fats.

Woke up to 5-6" of snow overnight with more coming today...no training on today's agenda (plus folks are coming to town tomorrow so I'm on house cleaning duty).

Scott, I've got a friend who went off of grains completely and says he feels wonderful. Not sure I could ever do something like that, I like my bread/bagels/pasta, etc too much.

The first thing you really need to do is figure out what your race weight should be.  The only way to do that is to have a body fat test done.  Unless you know your BF % you can't really determine if (and how much) you need to loose.

The other issue is you don't want to get to race weight this early in the season.  Your body is going to need some extra fat to burn through while you're in build phases.  If you eliminate that fat know, you're going to run into a potential issue with being underweight in the summer.

You also may find that you have a high BF % but a low BMI, which means that you need to build muscle and then cut fat.  All of this is hypothetical until you have a reasonably accurate BF measurement (and for someone as small as you a scale isn't going to cut it -- you're not looking for a trend you looking for the absolute number so you can determine race weight).
