You're so lucky to be able to practice on and/or check out the course ahead of time.

your right LORA, it is fortunate that i dont live far away and i could scope things out beforehand.

did 550+ yds in the pool.  the water is warmer than im used to, but no biggie.

after i swam i 'serendipitiously' bumped into someone who was doing the race too.  we chatted for a long time and she was VERY helpful in helping me figure out where everything was going to be come race day (she did it last year and is a Masters student so very familiar w the campus)

then i walked the run/bike course.  not sure that alleviated my 'fears' any.  holy heckarama.  1/4 mile hill at the very beginning of the course.

not so bad if you only did the hill ONCE, but its a 1.25ish mile loop so you do it 7xs for the bike and 2xs for the run.  and its the first thing you hit after T1 and T2.

scares the begeezes out of me.

my body is TOTALLY READY to climb.  that's not what concerns me.

but i have a PERFORMANCE HYBRID not a road bike, so im not sure how well it will do...the climbs not all that steep its just LOOOOOOOONG.

nothing to be done about it now.

the thought of my equipment being my LIMITER is a bit bothersome to me.

i KNOW i can climb the hill - i spent 1/2 of my 2hr endurance spin class every week climbing.

and i switched out the hybrid tires and put on road bike tires so that will help.

dagnabit.

well at least ill be sure to pass the people on the mt bikes.

maybe time to look in to getting a road bike......hmmmmmmm.

can you spell J-O-B?

mav - 2009-04-23 11:07 AM Yeah Katie...way to use your super powers!!!!!

Erica..suckage at the begining of a day is not so good

WINDY today...no biking for me

Stacie relax and enjoy the day...the countdown has begun. Cant wait to hear all about it!!!!

Yeah, fortunately the day did improve.  Bryan came home at lunch and unlocked the car for me.  I got Liam to school and then rode in that crazy wind for 1h 15m.  Then took Cole to his eval appointment.  Not a total loss!

The wind was insane today!  I am soooo glad I got out and rode though.  Even with the wild wind, I am seeing improvements!

ERICA  SO GOOD TO HEAR you turned that frown day UPSIDE DOWN

glad it wasnt a total loss.

and OMG, i hear you on the wind, it was windy here too.

after i lft the Univ i decided to do my FINAL BRICK.  and it was windy as all get out.

certainly makes your legs stronger as you fight to stay moving straight, foward and upright.  HOLY HECKARAMA.

glad you got out there inspiteof your unexpected hectic morning.  and glad you were able to keep Cole's eval appt.  (those can be a BUGGER to reschedule)

hope all went well.

OOOOOH.  speaking of attempts in the pool...

yesturday after i was done w my 550 in the Univ pool, i decided to do a WHAT THE HELL, BUTTERFLY STROKE 25 YARD SWIM.

guess what???

i swam butterfly the entire 25 yards....a big deal since ive been trying to reach a full 25 yards for a few weeks now, and only managed 3-4 strokes/10ish yards.

i was so stinkin' honkin' proud of myself.

its just 25 yds, but still.   a BIG DEAL

as for the hill, YEP 9XS.

its the first thing you hit after T1 and T2.  some sadomasochistic cyclist dude made up the race course.

but CONQUER that hill, DAGNABIT, i WILL.

like that???

thanks MAV.

i just read a great article on Active.com on hill climbing....and theres one line that really stood out to me....

'Never attack a mountain, instead, let a climb come to you'

and i thought this was good too....

'regardless of the facade, everyone suffers on a climb - so find that place within yourself where you can block out everything and everyone around you, keep your effort steady and balance your power output on the edge of your pain threshold.'  i guess youd need to read the entire article to really absorb that last bit perhaps, but you get the gist im sure.

HELLO X-MEN (sorry for the copied msg)

just flyin' by real quick to let you know...

I HAD THE BEST TIME EVER AT MY RACE.

still waiting on the 'official times' and such, but i do know that i placed 5TH IN MY AGE GROUP.

not too shabby considering it was my first.

and to think that i almost talked myself out of doing it.

as for THE HILL.

WHAT HILL????  holy heck.  what did i have myself SO worked up for??  i was whizzing past people.  even past some on road bikes.

silly me, all in a wad over nothing

thats what i do though, i get all wiggy, and then for the race im 'calm, cool and collected'

theres very little ill do differently come my full Sprint in May.

i had the best time, and the best part, i THROUGHLY ENJOYED MYSELF, START TO FINISH.

DID IT FOR YOU DAN!!!!!!  (ALL 9 LAPS UP THAT HILL)

be back later.
