Tonight we plan to go bike riding. I am very happy that he is walking & biking with me. Have a great weekend everyone! Dee, I have been triing to get mine to do anything with me! He used to be in crosscountry/track in HS...Now I know that was 20yrs ago but he was GOOD! And he loved it then....20 yrs of not taking care of ourselves it will be hard and he won't be fast but I keep telling him it will get better! No go.. I can relate. When we met, Larry walked 4-7 miles almost every day. But for years it's been nothing. One of the first things he said when I told him that I wanted to do a triathlon was, "Well, don't try to rope me into doing it!" So I never pushed him, just talked easy about my workouts. However, I've been working out for just over a month. He has decided he wants to lose some weight so he has started walking and biking again. Don't know if he will ever go for swimming, but I am happy for any of it! You just never know... |

Elite 3913 far northern CA | Subject: RE: Fighting Okra - September End of Summer Challenge Got my trainer ride done! Running is on the agenda for tomorrow. BTW.....I have a cheap fluid trainer from Performance Bike. It's not the best but it has lasted about 3 seasons. This maybe it's last season. It's starting to clunk. There are definitely better ones out there. |

Master 1841 Sendai, Japan | Subject: RE: Fighting Okra - September End of Summer Challenge I got out yesterday (Sunday) for a 12 km run which takes me up over 100% on the run. I should get out long enough today to get my bike over 100% and then need to crank out 3 long swims in the next three days - should be no problem. |

Champion 6225 | Subject: RE: Fighting Okra - September End of Summer Challenge HEY DEE! the ride was GREAT. such an exquisite route. each bend we went around, it just kept getting more and more picturesque. and i think, having done a longer cycling event prior, i was able to relax and really enjoy myself this time. and then w my husband and a good friend along for the ride made it all the nicer. as for the race the next day, this ones a sentimental favorite of mine. probably the largest race run in the city of Pittsburgh second to the Pittsburgh Marathon. it rained buckets the 2nd half of the race, which i LOVED. i didnt run for time, it was more for the SMILEY COOKIE at the end! but the fact that i put in a 60 mile day beforehand, i'd say i did well. 9:30/mile pace going into the final mile, got hung up in 'traffic' which slowed me down a bit. i finished at 1:00:28. [last year i ran it in 56:30] the cookie was YUMMY and worth it. stacieb Edited by skrtrnr 2009-09-28 3:55 PM |

I don't think that I ever ran/jogged a mile even as a kid without some walking. Tonight I went 1.4 miles without walking!! Slowing down has helped my breathing immensely. Speed will come later, right? Also wanted to say that this has been my first full month of training and my first challenge. You all have been so encouraging and helpful. I just can't thank you enough. GREAT TEAM !! |

Expert 1007 Hattiesburg, Mississippi | Subject: RE: Fighting Okra - September End of Summer Challenge Hey everyone! Coming up for air... Some of you know I am now up in NJ seeing to the arrangements of my grandmothers funeral. She passed on Sunday morning. She had a long wonderful life (92 yrs old!) had all her facilities to the end and died quietly in her sleep. There is no way I can finish this challenge, although it may not matter the team seems to be doing so well! I may get a run in tomorrow... but there have been many late nights and busy days attending to family matters and such and I can not see me getting in additional rides or swims. Sorry to let my team down! Please feel free to drop me... |
