Uxbridge | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! Hey Sticka forgot to offer my congrats on your fist tri. Have a BLAST I love PEI. Went there many years ago on a camping trip when our kids were young. It rained all week but we still had fun. My kids still remember it fondly. My idea of camping now is the Sheraton with the windows wide open . |

Extreme Veteran 1338 | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! Flipper - I have only one thing to say on your back to back... GO FOR IT!!! You are ready....you will be fully recovered by then....no issues. You will also be more relaxed in your second one. Plus it will also have that advantage of you sleeping in your own bed. I would re-do the taper week workouts and knock it out too....take Monday the 26th off, swim on Tues, Bike Wed, short run on Thurs, then short spin on Fri or Sat depending on whether race is Sat or Sun. This is a great idea - "Leston so glad you got new running shoes. I write the date on the instep of mine with perm marker to remember when I bought them. I retire them every 4-5 months, some places I have read that you should replace every 250 miles. I think it really depends on how much you run and what distances you are training for." -- I like others try to remember what date I put them in service. I think you can pretty comfortably get 350-400 miles out of a good shoe. I always have at least two pair that I rotate...this let's the cushion recover more fully and the shoe totally dry prior to being re-run. Also, NEVER put those running shoes in the washer or dryer....that was for PF Flyers when we were kids. I am so excited you are all seeing this success....you are awesome. I have one more long brick this weekend and then it is into full on taper mode....and I am a taper PROFESSIONAL. By the way, Mav you jinxed me, it looks like the forecast for the 24th is in the 90s for the high....ouch! Have a spectacular Friday....I am swimming, Turtles Rule!!! |

Veteran 123 Mobile, Alabama | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! That sounds like a great trip, Peter! I meant to mention it in my last post. I hope the girls in the family get a get-away trip as well. Bryan! OUCH! Hope those early morning temperatures hang around for a bit. 90s are WAY to hot to compete in. Ouch again. But YOU CAN DO IT! Go Bryan, go! So................ I bricked the Grandman Tri distance at the gym today!! I'm so pumped! I did 20 laps in the pool (26 minutes - slow, I know, but steady, LOL), T1 doesn't count because a friend caught me in the locker room again (about 5 minutes),16 miles on the stationary bike in 56.12, T2 2 minutes, and 3.1 miles on the track in 34.25, a PR! Wahoo! I walked another 2 miles after the run, just to calm down, hehe. So, I registered for the Grandman!! *giggly giddy* A friend at the gym told me that the first mile of the run is all up hill, ouch, but I don't care. Another friend tried to talk me out of it, because he said the bay water is full of bacteria and I'll get sick. If that's the case, there will be over 400 of us sick I guess. I say, BRING IT ON! sTRIve!! Have a great evening all! Edited by juanita_etheridge 2008-05-19 9:22 AM |

Extreme Veteran 1338 | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! Flipper....don't listen to the nay sayers....just do it....wow that would be a good slogan for a company...oh, it's already being used...my bad. Grandman is the day my daughter turns 21....and she does her first triathlon on June 1...the next day....she won't be doing much partying the night of the 31st....hehe....but watch out the night of the 1st... Hey thanks for all of you worrying about the weather...I am more interested in whether the swim will be wetsuit legal...it is going to be in the 90s all week so the water may warm up too much. I really would like to use the old wetsuit for flotation.... FBP - I really am going to need some help from you in the next few months...it looks like I am going to run the Houston Marathon in January....that scares me just thinking about it...much less typing it. see you at the finish line |

Veteran 281 | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! Here is a quick update: Ran the "Save the Manatee" 5K this morning - my 1st organized 5K! I finished in 26.51 minutes (my goal was 28 min). I was happy with my time! Some observations: 1. I run much faster outside than on a treadmill - I never realized that! 2. My first mile was 7.32; my split on the second mile was 17.00 so my last mile was almost 10 minutes! 3. I have a real tough time setting a pace, I didn't realize I was running a 7.30 in the first mile (I can barely run that fast on a treadmill for 1 minute!). 4. The wind is a killer! The entire second mile was directly into the wind. 5. It was a GREAT feeling crossing the finish line - and I was thinking of you guys when I did it! Footnote: My 12 year old daughter won the 14 and under age group, finishing in 23.23. She "died" on the 3rd mile - she doesn't train for distance running (remember she is a basketball player). Her splits were 6.34; 12.45; then 23.23 (she has "sports asthma" and dad forgot to remind her to bring her inhaler!). She finished as the 4 girl in any any group! (OK, I'm being a proud dad!). I bought my bike last night!!!!! I am sooo excited to start riding. It is a full carbon GT with Ultegra componets. I don't know if Mav will approve with the colors, but I love it! We are going to a wedding right now, I write more tomorrow. sTRIve ON Turtles! Dan Edited by MSUDan 2008-05-18 5:20 PM |

Veteran 281 | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! OK, I have to admit that I am still technically challenged and don't know how to post my own pictures, but I did find it online: http://www.gtbicycles.com/usa/eng/Products/Road/Race/?s_archived=t#... It is mostly back and red with silver accents (black and red has always been one of my favorite color combinations since I was a kid!). I love the looks, but Mav might think it is too plain. I did my first ever ride this afternoon (Sunday). It was very, very windy and my legs are screaming at me as I type! I rode for about 12 - 13 miles as I didn't want to do to much the first time. I rode by myself and LOVED IT!!!! I wish I would have started this stuff 15 years ago - I hope I stilll have this feeling a year or two from now! :^) I am swimming tomorrow morning as my wife and I are traveling to Atlanta on Tuesday to go to the Eagles concert Tuesday night (we were successful bidders in a charity auction for these tickets. They are 2nd row and include back-stage passes and a private party!!! I am truly excitied about this, but want to make sure I get in my 2 swims next week). FBP - I am excited for your July 6th Tri and can't wait to hear about the results. You are the MAN and I know you will "knock their sox off!" OK, I am going to need a name for my bike as well. My first thought is "Leonidas" - the GREAT Spartan General who was imortalized in the movie 300, but because of the success of the movie, that name may be too mainstream. Brasidas - another famous Spartan General was another thought, but my son't solar car team named their car "Brasidas" and I don't want to copy that one! Any thoughts????? I'll be intouch soon. Thanks for being here! sTRIve On Turtles. Dan |

Veteran 113 Salt Lake City area | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! Dan, I don't know about Spartan generals, but I know those are fast colors (that's because my Scarlett is also black and red). Speedy stuff. My bro and I got together Saturday for a mini-tri/double brick/whatever you call it. All I know is that it was the hottest day of the year so far in Salt Lake - 85F. But it was great Swam some drills, then did 500 yards to finish off the swim. Went and hopped on the bike and rode for 20 miles, then ran 4 miles at the park. I was pretty hammered at the end of all that, but it was a great feeling to really do it all back to back (to back). Exceeds the distances for my sprint race on the 31st (400 yd swim, 11 mi bike, 5k run) so at least I know I can do the distance. Yeah! I will have to say that I am really encouraged about the swimming. I know I still need to work on distance, but I'm not worried about that so much. What has helped me is (1) stretches to help increase the flexibility in my shoulders, (2) the TI drills that focus on balance, switch timing, and streamlining. So, hope everyone is doing great! Keep on keeping on, and have a nice taper week Flipper! You are going to do fantastic this weekend. You too BR! sTRIve rules! --Leston |

Veteran 123 Mobile, Alabama | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! Bryan, what a great experience to help your daughter remember her 21st - officially an ADULT - birthday. Too cool. I know she's gonna do great. Look at her dad. Yep, that needs to big a BIG party afterwards. BIG. Congrats on your 5K, Dan. What an awesome time, too. And for your daughter's run, just WOW. You have good reason to be proud. Your bike is beautiful. I don't think "Leonidas" is too mainstream at all. That's a great name. (Leo for short... awesome.) That made me think of Maximus (from "Gladiator". While Marcus Aurelius and his son Commodus really existed, Maximus is fictitious I think, but what a great character. I love the movie. A derivative of the name would be "maximum", right? Like maximum speed, maximum effort. And the name shortens nicely - "Max". My 2 cents, lol. Edited by juanita_etheridge 2008-05-19 10:18 AM |

Veteran 281 | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! Leston: AWESOME training in 85 degree weather! Your progress has been outstanding since the start of our group. You will have no problem do the Tri distance for your first one. As I read about your swimming getting stronger and stronger I feel so much better about my own abilities as well. Keep up the GREAT work. Thanks for good words on the bike as well. Juanita: Thanks for the advice and kind words - I really do love the bike already :^) Can't wait to ride soon!!!!!!! Bryan thinks Leonidas is too intellectual!!!!!! Must be that Texas heat that burns out the brain at an early age :^) ... Mav & Stickers, I need your input before I can put a name to my bike! Help me please. One side note: my daughter is now on crutches with a bad High Ankle Sprain! She did it Saturday night jumping off the last step in our house. She is in a soft cast for at least one week. After all her running and then golfing on Saturday - then she hurts herself jumping off a step! Go figure. I am off the Eagles concert tomorrow morning. I plan on training at least one of the two days I am gone. I will report back Wed or Thurs. Thanks for being here! Dan |

Extreme Veteran 553 New Brunswick, Canada | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! OMG. naming a bike after a Spartan General is very cool as far as I'm concerned. Suppose you can't judge mainstream by me but I didn't see the movie 300 so if I heard (or saw) the name I would ask about it and then you'd get to tell me an amazing story of a Spartan general and you would omit that you stole it from a movie BTW, the bike looks very nice in the pic you linked us to. Mav - trip to PEI was great. My brothers arrived a day and a half earlier than my son and I and they were BUSY 'cause by the time we got there a ton of the work had been done. The cottage had a new kitchen installed over he fall/winter and it is beautiful. We painted it, did some repairs and painting in the bathroom, wired and did the interior finish on a bunkhouse that we started last year plus general spring cleanup. Even found time to get out for a community lobster dinner in a small country town ($16 for 2x1 lb lobster, potato salad, homemade rolls and dessert !!). Didn't find time to run, swim or bike though PM

Leston - awesome on the swim, bike, run self supported multi sport adventure. You are definitely ready. One thought for you...go out easy on this first one. Halfway through the bike if you feel great you can kick it up a bit, then halfway through the run....let it rip. Go for it....sprint if you feel like it. You will be fine. Your second one will feel much much different but just enjoy this one and take in the sights and sounds and smells....enjoy! You have earned it. Dan - enjoy the Eagles...I would also be there if possible....great group...lots of memories. Mav oh Mav - maven of the colorwheel....what would we do without you. Enjoy my chocolate this weekend. Flipper - You are ready girl....keep up the taper...don't get tempted to do too much this week. You really want to be rested. Leston - that goes for you next week....don't overdo it....see the instructions for Flipper's workouts this week on an earlier post. You really want to be rested. Rock on Turtles, |

Veteran 123 Mobile, Alabama | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! I took a couple of days off, more then I intended to actually. I had a scare. I sat next to a friend in church 2 weeks ago, She found out she had the flu the next day. So last Sunday, when I started feeling a little ill in church, I freaked. I came home, took a triple dose of vitamin C and went to bed. I took it easy until today. I think I'm ok, though. Just an allergy flare up, apparently. Whew. So, I swam 30 laps today, used the stationary bike at the gym for 15.5 miles, and worked out in the yard and cut grass here at home. (I may have over done it a bit, LOL.) Did I mention the butterflies in my tummy that won't go away? Thinking of you guys! You'll will be with me in spirit... I'm certain of it! Go Bryan! I'm cheering for you! And Peter? I sent you email, but thank you again! You are SO thoughtful! Edited by juanita_etheridge 2008-05-21 10:18 PM |

Remember Flipper that your butterflies are nervous energy and that nervous energy is really just power to be harnessed and then used as needed during the event. This Sunday is the annual 5k Juvenile Diabetes Run/Walk For The Cure so B-man there should be two more finish lines (me and Mrs FBP) to add to the total. It's a fun run but still counts right? Veteran 281 | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! Flipper: I am soooooo excited for you! I am glad your scare was only a scare and not the real flu thing!!!!!! I will be praying for your successful finish, but I am confident in your ability to get through this just fine. You are a training machine and your training and determination will work just fine for you. Sticka: We look forward to several more finishes - yes the 5K's count!!!!! Daughter Update: She did break her leg just above the ankle (slight fracture according to the dr.). She is now in a cast for 3 weeks! She is disappointed, but I know she will get through it. Atlanta Update: THE CONCERT WAS AMAZING! I have been to about 70 concerts in my life and this was in the top 2! They played for 3 hours and 15 minutes (about a 20 minute intermission) of non-stop hits. Joe Walsh is one of the most talented guitarist in rock! We were 2nd row in the center - best seats I have ever had! They played Don Henley's solo hits (All She Wants to Do is Dance; Dirty Laundry; Sunset Grill; Boys of Summer); Joe Walsh solo (and James Gang) hits ( Rocky Mount Way; Life's Been Good; Ordinary Average Guy) and many of their clasics (Hotel California, Life in the Fast Lane, Desperado; Heartache Tonight; One of These Nights; Witchey Woman; Lyin Eyes; Take it Easy;Peaceful Easy Feeling; ect) along with 5 or 6 from the new album which is very, very good (love the new song: Long Road out of Eden!). OK now back to reality! I am a bit behind in my training because of the travel (although I did get a massage while in Atlanta!). I will be swimming tomorrow and biking and running this weekend. sTRIve on Turtles! Dan |

Dan - I am going to pass along your concert report to one of the ladies who works in my office because she is already counting the days until the Eagles play near here - the first weekend in August. She is a huge fan and will be thrilled to know that they don't disappoint! They are headliners for a day-long outdoor music festival - can't remember the other acts off hand. Two years ago the headliners were the Stones and I took my 2 kids. What a time we had. They wormed their way through the crowd to be right beside the stage when Mick and the boys came out. It was the largest crowd on the whole Stones tour - more than 90,000 people. To put it in context, the city (Moncton - about 100 miles from Fredericton) where the concert took place is only 75,000 residents! Flipper - I suspect I won't be online tomorrow until after you leave so all the best for a safe journey and enjoy enjoy enjoy your first Tri.
