Jen, I'm sure you could do the half mary. If you are unsure of running fast enough, just sneak up near the front of the pack when you all leave. They will be going by the time of the last person to cross the starting line anyway. Depending on the size of the race that could buy you a few extra minutes.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. I personally would not want to do a race that large in August. Don't like the heat (says the girl in Hotlanta )

Hi Kendra,

I tjhought of you last night when I took the girls to the library.  R lost her card and we had to get a new one. C had an overdue book.  They're making their way through the summer reading lists from school.  R has found several books she is bored to tears with  but oh well...part of the process

Okay, now for my rant.

Baseball game last night was good. One problem. The couple that we had invited to go with us did not show. There we are sitting at home wondering when they would get there. Supposed to be at our house at 6pm. At 6:15 pm Frank calls the guy. "Hey where are you?" "On my way to the Y." "Um, we're supposed to go to the Braves game tonight." "Yeah, that's on Monday, right?" "Yeah, Today is Monday." "It is? Well, I'm going to the Y."

So, needless to say we went to the game without them (Those tickets that weren't used were $52 each and we could have invited other people to join us if they weren't going to really go with us). Thing that really bugs me is this guy has now done this to us several times in the past 18 months. First time was Franks birthday. Wife shows up without hubby. Frank calls him and he is at the Y. I feel like this has happened for everything we have tried to do as couples for the last 18 months. These are people who have gone to Mexico with us 3 times for vacation so it's not like we are just trying to get to know each other as couples.

I told Frank that I am done. I don't want to even try to do anything with this guy any longer. Told him he can still be friends and do lunch, etc. But the couple thing is over. Am I just being a beeatch?

How many books does thier school require them to read? The schools here just want them to read one off the list and then they can choose their own after that.

R is in honors classes, she has a lot of reading to do for English., plus one book for science (Journey to the Center of the Earth) and a biography for history (she's got a book on Machiavelli ordered cause I think he's an interesting character with a good comparison to Saddam Hussein in modern era)

OI wanted to get some new Maeve Binchy novels but I have a couple running books I'm reading right now and know Maeve is better suited for beach reads.

Yeah, Binchy is really good vacation reading. I'm reading a Fern Michaels right now which is also good light reading.

My first thought was maybe he's not just avoiding doing stuff with y'all (see also:  you guys), but maybe his wife as well.  He went to the Y while his wife showed up and Frank's birthday party.  Then, at the Y when he and his wife were going to meet you for a game.  Granted, this only two examples, but in both he's off by himself.  A huge leap into assuming things I know, but it is an odd situation.

Oh, and to answer your question, no you're not being a beyotch.  You're justifiably frustrated.  What kind of person turns down free baseball tickets anyway?  It's un-American.

I agree. If you aren't going to show, then just say no. If you are avoiding your own wife (or the other guys wife ) then just say no. Don't leave the people hanging.

Yeah, the Braves lost, but since I'm not a big fan of baseball (or football, or basketball, you get the drift) I didn't really care who won or lost. The Cardinals really played well, and the Braves just didn't. It has also been so long since I've been to a game (4 or 5 years) that I only knew one name of the Braves players. All the others I did not know. But it sure is fun to go and enjoy the whole atmosphere. We even snuck into the club deck because that was the only deck that had calzones. Being a veggie, the hotdogs and hamburgers weren't going to cut it for me and I didn't want to just eat popcorn, peanuts and stadium nachos. the club deck has a whole bunch of TV's all over so you can't miss any part of the game even if you were trying to. Even the elevators have a tv showing the game. hysterical.

First thought that came to my mind is "watch the movie".... however, I hope she reads the book before the movie... Movies leave out SO much...

But the BIG question is.... did you check out the playground???

We've noticed that the MLB stadiums are all putting in playgrounds for the kids... Arizona's is WAY cool!!!!

Yep, I think our family vacations will now revolve around going to an MLB game

Yep.  It's definitely all about the the product off the field now.  They've even got big arcades and stuff where kids can go play XBox and stuff during the games.  Kind of defeats the purpose, but I guess whatever sells tickets.

There is a whole play area on the 4th level. Might not have what you normally see on a playground, but lots of fun stuff for the kids to do. Also on the first level are carnival type baseball stuff for parents to spend more money on. Several areas where you can throw the baseball to see how fast you can throw the ball. So, it is a really good place to take the kids.
