Hey fellow NUGs!!  I'm sure everyone is thrilled that the weekend is here...I'm thinking we are going to take Sam to the zoo tomorrow ~ they have a few baby tigers that I've been wanting to see.

Sunday officially begins my 12 week triathlon training...no excuses to slack on the swim now so feel free to harass....errrr, I mean inspire me to get it done!   I'm still debating on the biathlon but I'm "training" as if I'm going to do it....so why am I so dang afraid to just go and register???

We need some kind of system whereby Writebrained rewards us for sticking to our schedules...maybe gold stars or something?

Chocolate would work for me.  But a little hard to do online.  And I already treat myself to it anyway.

***

I was in a class all day today.  It's a good thing I did today's workout yesterday.  Tomorrow should be a fun race simulation.

After hem-hawing for a month I finally went to the bike shop and ordered a trainer.  I know Spring's almost here but it's a good deal.

Have a good weekend.  We don't have much planned.  Maybe a movie.

Oooooooooh, gold stars...prettttty!

Lara ~ Spring may almost be here but there will always be crappy days and another winter so I'm sure your trainer will get plenty of use!

I'm happy to say that I did what I said I was going to do today...a short run and a swim!  Aaaaand, I've almost talked a friend into doing the biathlon with me!

Hi everyone...after a very late night (driving from Chicago to Springfield MO...by the way I am sure central Illinois is beautiful I just didn't get to see it because it was dark) I got up and did 2 miles on the treadmill at the hotel.

I am all for gold stars!

Michelle...are a duathalon and a biathalon the same thing?

I always thought biathlon was cross country skiing and shooting.  But maybe the two-athlons are interchangeable.

I had a race day simulation scheduled for today but it didn't go well. There are many reasons but here are a couple that I think had the biggest part.

1. I didn't have enough food intake yesterday. I didn't take enough to eat with me into the class. By the time I was on my way home at 4 pm I was getting that cold, eye rolling feeling from low blood sugar. Although I took care of that when I got home, I think today I was low on energy overall.

2. My son was a nightmare this morning. I was so frustrated with him and that made me cranky.

3. Finally, since I was cranky I didn't want to a hassle with getting the bike down off the hooks, checking tires, looking for gloves, bundling up, etc. All the things involved with a cold outdoor bike & run. So I went to the gym instead. Made it boring. And I didn't like having the instant feedback of how slow I was going.

I sure am glad this wasn't a real race day. Something to learn from and change for next time.

Like Lara said, I think they are interchangable.  Since so many people think of a biathlon as one that involves shooting, they've gone to calling them duathlons.  However, the one I'm doing must be run by some rebels 'cuz they are still calling it a biathlon!

That's what these are for right...live and learn...or train and learn! OK...I know that was really cheezy but hey, you get my point!!

Good morning everyone.  Hope you had a good weekend.

I'm not sure what I'm doing today.  There's talk of going skiing this morning but we'll see.  If we don't do that then I'll go down to the Y for my 40' run.

We had a dusting of snow overnight and now it's raining.  Going outside isn't much of an option.  For an area that boasts of 300 days of sun a year, this winter's weather is highly unusual.  This weekend I finally decided I was done with Winter and I'm ready for Spring.

Here's a question.  How would you define race pace?

Race pace would be HR Zone 5c!  Take a look at my blog for HR Zones.  I have them pasted into the top of my log.   Gordo Byrn suggests the following - swim, bike, run  ----- 150/160/170 HR.

If you don't have a HR monitor, there is also RPE:

http://sportsmedicine.about.com/cs/strengthening/a/030904.htm

Maximum intensity
- Exercising in this zone is "hardest" and causes heavy breathing, tired muscles, and fatigue
- anaerobic

Hey everybody,

Thanks for being patient with me while I got a few things attended to and sorted out. I think the black clouds may finally be  gone for a bit.  Now if I can just get my focus back I'll be all set for the race season to get started.  Well wishes and inspires kept me moving forward over the last couple of weeks but my head sure wasn't in it. Just working on getting that back now.  I'll be checking in much more regularly now. First race of the season is two weeks from yesterday!Surprised

Good morning NUGS! It has been a little quiet in here lately, I know I haven't been posting as much. Something about this cold nasty weather that dampens the spirit for training. February always seems like the longest month, even though it's only 28 days.

We've got robins in the yard now and they are starting to sing in the morning. That can only mean that spring is just around the corner.  Outdoor biking weather!!!!

I am tapering for my Tampa race this week. I feel very strong and ready for this race and hope to attain a PR.  A limiting factor there would be if we have a warm muggy day, since I'm not acclimated to that, so we shall see. If my friend and nemesis Karen wants to pace me, I am sure I can PR.

Hope everyone's training is going well.

ABAKE - wishing you all the best on your trip.  You planned and timed it perfectly.  What a trill to head into some temperate weather and experience a race this time of year.  BUT Happychick has no idea (atleast recently) what we are celebrating....

I'm so jealous.  Of the warm weather that is, not the race.  We're having another gray rainy day.

Does it make you feel better that I've been walking around in pants and sweatshirts the last few days cuz of the "cold?"

Not even a little.  It was 2 when I got up this morning.  Did finally warm up to about 30 though this afternoon.   Going to have to get a lot colder there to make us sympathize. Time to get on my trainer once again.  Yay for Spinnervals.  Undecided

I got my bike down and got on it for a bit today.  I wouldn't actually call it riding.  I was just doing circles around my son while was on his bike.  He goes slow and likes to slam on the brakes.  If he'd go faster he'd make some great skid marks.  Anyway we just went around the neighborhood.

My husband just got back from his ride so now I can go do my little 30' run.

It's in the 40's now, may even get to 50 today with a little bit of sun.  That'll be nice.

Hey, anything to help especially since someone (we won't mention any names, JOHN) seems to find it funny to make smart allec remarks about me not dealing too well with my "harsh" weather!

I'm hoping to do a swim and run tonight but hubby came home last night really sick so I may have to take today as a rest day, depending on how he feels later!

I hope he feels better soon.  Not only so you can get your workout done.  But also because sick husbands are sometimes more difficult than sick kids, IMO.
