I'm much more nervous about the 5k tomorrow!

Among really accomplished cyclists (which I am not), 55 miles isn't a huge effort.  It's a pretty long effort for me at this point in the season, but it'll be really fun and beautiful.  And  being out with my friends again will be really nice.

wisprunner - 2010-03-05 9:09 AM Patrick,

I gasped at the bike ride. You said it like you were riding to the corner store. 55 MILES! You go!

bassandbike - 2010-03-05 5:29 AM One more little outdoor run today.  Maybe 2 miles. Oh, and upper body strength.

The hay is in the barn, as they say in Kentucky.  Race tomorrow morning.  5k.

Wish me luck.

Many thanks to our group for the support, inspiration and encouragement!

I'm following the run with a 55 mile bike ride with friends on Sunday morning.  Good times!

Awesome, I know you will do great on your run, honestly you have already won, simply by entering!  Do your best and have fun!!

And enjoy your ride on Sunday, hope the weather is agreeable for it:-)

KenD - 2010-03-02 6:44 AM It's March!  The sun is starting to shine more often and the temperature is starting to rise.  There's been a 60* day or two here in Texas already.  I'm getting antsy for some outdoor riding.

I think it's time for another "3 Random Inspires" week.  You know the drill - inspire 3 people that you don't currently "know" by the end of day on Friday.  Report back when you've completed your "homework".

I have completed my random inspires and was inspired by the efforts of those I inspired!

Second Aquathon Results:

Swim- 1 minute 40 secs faster

transition and run- 8 minutes 16 secs faster

total: 9 minutes 56 sec faster

I was pleased. My goal was to speed it up a little. I am still slow but at least I am seeing improvements.

The race went great!!!  I ran 9:04 average miles and felt strong the whole time!  It was chilly...at the race start it was 30 degrees.  I overdressed a little, but no problem.   It felt great to be standing there at the starting line with 9800 other folks, each with their own story and reasons for running.  It was so fun.

The ride exceeded expectations!  I actually went over 60 miles and never suffered, never felt weak.  I've never felt stronger on a bike, and I had VERY few miles in the off season.  The running and weights handled it.

Overall an excellent weekend of activity!

Thanks to you all for your support!

Patrick,

That is awesome!I am so happy for you and proud of you! Did you ever think, before all this, that you would be saying a 60 mile bike was no big deal!?

So after a quiet weekend, what's on the plate this week?

I am officially on my structured tri training program.  I've never been on one before.  The schedule calls for a swim and bike today, but not sure I'll be able to get the swim in cuz my pool is outdoors and thunderstorms are predicted.  I will get in the trainer ride for sure and see if I can move the swim to tomorrow with a run.

Run, run, and more runs for me!!  I plan on running tonight, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights.  Thursday night is my weekly swim night.  I need to get in an 8 mile run over the weekend.  Not sure if it will be Saturday or Sunday, treadmill or outside.  I would rather get outside again but not sure what the weekend holds yet.

This week is my off-week from bootcamp, so that frees up a couple of nights for other stuff.  Tonight I'll probably fighting with the hubby over the trainer, but if that is the case, I'll probably let him win and ride the recumbant bike that we mostly use as a towel rack.

Tomorrow is run time, doing 7-8KM at tempo, I've not had a good last couple of weeks with my evening runs, mostly because I was under the weather, so hoping for better results tomorrow with fingers crossed.  Wednesday is Hill repeats, we're up to 6 now.  Thursday, I have the day off and will be getting in a long ride during the day and a swim at night.  Friday...hmmm...maybe a night off:-

Thoughts/discussion for the week - mottos, slogan, mantras, etc.

Do you have a favorite quote, saying or mantra that helps you in your training?

Mine used to be "just keep swimming".  I was very weak in the water and would take a stroke with each word.  I've gotten better in the water and it's now "keep moving forward".

Hmmm..it changes over time, but it is usually lyrics of some sort, right now it's the lyrics to an eminem song, because of this  video that I saw just recently. I suppose this video should in some way scare me away from my goal of doing an ironman one day, but watching it, only makes me want it more...

Rock Rock till you drop is another line I will repeat as well as nobody gonna breaka my stride, nobody's gonna tear me down...oh no, I got to keep on movin'

Nothing like that but I always remind myself that my sister really does not think I can do the runs and triathlons I plan to do.  She really is not very supportive.  She told me just this weekend that I am crazy to think I can run the Philly marathon later this year.  One of these days I am going to be nasty and remind her that at least I am trying.  Our relationship is already in the crapper so why not make it worse!!

It's the BT 3x balanced sprint training.  It has 3 workouts per week in each sport and one day off a week.  The only problem is it is starting off at really low training time on some of the sports (13min swim, 13min run, 26min bike) and won't build up for several weeks.  I am trying to work on speed during these shorter times but am afraid I am going to lose my distance base I had been building all winter.  I had been doing 20min swim, 25-60min runs, and 30-60min bikes.

Mine is actually on my signature...

No one could make a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could do only a little. -Edmund Burke

I actually found that quote while at the San Diego Zoo of all places.  They had a bunch of different quotes on little plaques all around the zoo and as soon as I saw that one, I memorized it and looked it up when I got home.  It helps keep me going and know that even if I only get out and do something, no matter how small it is, that it is better than nothing.

I used to be of the mentality that "oh, i don't have time for my long run today, so I just won't do anything".  Now I look at it as, "I don't have time for my long run, let me go out and do a few miles."

I just registered for the Broad Street run in Philly.  It is the first weekend of May and another 10 mile run.  Last year there was over 23,000 people run it.  It is supposedly one of the best 10 mile races in the world.  They say it is the fastest 10 mile course.  I was on the fence about doing it but I am 95% sure I am doing the Philly marathon in November.  I have yet to do a larger race like that so I thought I should do Broad Street this year.  At least I will have the nerves of the larger crowd out of the way before doing my first marathon.

I've got it all planned out today.  I came into work 30min early to get off early so I can get in both a swim and bike.  Plan calls for 35m bike and 18m swim, so I mapped out a bike route and am going to bike 5mi to the pool, swim, then bike 3mi home.  That gives me 8mi on the bike on a very hilly route so I am hoping that should put me around 35min.  My swim will be 200y WU, 500y TT, and 250y CD.

There, I've said it, and it WILL be done!

I can't wait to get in some longer workouts!

I am looking forward to doing it because it is 5 weeks after my 10 mile run the end of this month.  My miles are already up, I am in 10 mile shape, and I can focus on this run and then go right into that one!
