toocold - 2010-04-05 6:29 AM Good morning Team.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes and positive thoughts for my Mom!  She had a great weekend home and I think it was really good for her.  Being in her own space, doing some stairs, puttering around.  She also had some friends from when we lived in the North visit on Fri/Sat which was great because I didn't want to spend too much time around her until I had a handle on my cold.

I threw everything I could think of at that cold over the weekend, including a mustard pack that I apparently left on too long because I seem to have a slightly burnt chest.  I am happy to say I am feeling a lot better and I was able to enjoy a nice Easter Sunday with my family.

My plan today is to ease into training.  I am going to head out for a run right away and then I will jump on the indoor trainer tonight when I get home.

Ok, you lost me at "mustard pack." What the heck is that?

With that said, I'm glad that you and your Mom had a good weekend and you're feeling better!!

From what I understand, you take equal parts water, mustard powder and flour to make a paste.  Take a tea towel and put the paste on one side and then fold it over and put it on your chest.  It heats up nicely but I guess I left it on too long.  Or I did it too many times.  Not sure...  Embarassed

Then you can spread it on a hot dog for a tasty treat! Wink

kimk - 2010-04-06 7:40 AM Again I am up early when I don't have to be! What is this? No next week when the kids are back at school I won't be able to drag my arse out of bed! It is storming pretty good here...lots of lightning,  rain, rain go away because Kim has a run to do today! I was not able to ride to work yesterday like I wanted to but I did get a swim in. I'll get a trainer ride in today and hoping for a run! Then speaking of baseball...I am going to the game tonight with some friends!
Have a good day A TEAM!

Funny how that works - our kids do the same thing all the time  - why are you up when you don't have to be??? I couldn't sleep!

That is my life though.  Weekends I am up at 6 regularly

My husband and I usually try to alternate weekend days to get up with the kids and let the other sleep in a bit.  I'm ALWAYS dragging my butt out of bed when it's my day to wake up.  But can't sleep in on the days I get the chance!

I got my 20 mile trainer ride in last night.  It was S-L-O-W and painful...  but done!

Today I brought my running stuff to go outside but now it is raining.  Cry  Trying to decide if I want to suck it up and just get on the treadmill here at work or wait until I go to the pool tonight and run around the track.

Maybe I'll get lucky and the rain will stop?

What I really think I am going to do today is come up with a plan for my swim session tonight.  I could swim the same pace forever and ever...  And I am never going to speed it up without some sets of sprints, etc.

Plus, I'm getting bored in the pool.  So, in order to keep me from getting bored at work, my goal today is to come up with a fun plan for the pool tonight!

We have the same arrangement at our house.  I get up on Saturday mornings and my wife gets up on Sunday.  The person sleeping in gets to stay in bed until 8.  Remember in HS and college when you would sleep until Noon???

Morning Kim - and not to rain "pun intended" on your baseball game but the Rockies are going to win (that is if you are going to the brewers game )

We had rain this morning as well - fun times

Come on they have to make up for yesterday!

Did it work this time?  I think my computer at work might block uploads?????

Anyways, these stairs are down at the beach.  They connect the beach parking lot to the homes on the bluff above the Capitola village.  My firehouse is located a few minutes from here.  So, every once and a while, we'll take the engine over and run these in the morning.  The stairs are roughly 5 to 6 building floors.  We did this 10x with pushups then ran half mile for warm down.  Great workout, but I always get really bad DOMS afterwards, especially in the calfs!

Alright that puts a whole lot together - you are a firefighter not military like I suspected

And that sounds brutal.  The whole detachment or just you and a couple of buddies?

Do you have fitness tests to pass every year??

Sorry - LOL

We have a mandatory fitness program.  Shift starts at 0700 and we are expected to be working out from 0730-0830.  I have a really great crew that takes the physical training to heart.  Doesn't get much better than getting paid to workout!

And this is why I love my job!

And that is why you are going to fill me in so I can go to my Y with all your information about the endurance class and I can have that type of job as well.  I might as well get paid to do something I love right????

HAHAHA! Actually I am a group fitness instructor. I also run the tri-club here. The training I went to was with Tri-faster and Lauren Jensen. It was awesome! I could give you some details though! I do love my job but If I had to be the one paying the bills it wouldn't happen with what I make!

40 minute ho-hum drainer ride this morning and planning a run with the boss (actually my boss, not my wife) at lunch time.  The weather people are telling us it could get into the 90's today.  I haven't run in hot weather since Aug/Sept.  Brought my fuel belt just in case.  Have a great day, A-team!

Rhoda I am not a swimmer but here is what my plan throws at me (and makes me throw up at the same time!

8 or more x 25 all out with 30 second rest.

One time I took it up a notch with fins and did 2 - 4x25 all out (30 second total) inbetween I took 1 minute rest - but that was so brutal - I wanted to heave in the pool and that has never happened before.

Descends also are fun - yeah right!!!!

Thanks, Bill!

One of my swim coaches told me once (when I said that I thought I was going to puke)... "GOOD!  You're not swimming hard enough if you don't feel like puking!"

mchally - 2010-04-05 3:50 PM Just finished a 22 minute run (a bit over 2 miles) at school.  Running on Asphalt sucks.  I felt ok while I was doing it, but I am feeling slight twinges in my shins now.  I probably should have mixed in a little more walking.

Howdy Mel - sorry about the Asphalt but it is better than concrete

Concrete is definately the worst, especially concrete with slight grade for drainage!  HORRIBLE.  For my street runs, I try to stay off the sidewalks and run on the asphalt or dirt next to concrete if possible.
There was definitely plenty of concrete as well.

It was kind of neat...there had been a very brief downpour and then the sun came back out. There was steam wafting off all the asphalt surfaces.

brick94513 - 2010-04-05 9:23 AM Well I was planning on a road ride this morning, but my wife left my tights in the washer!  Errrrrr....  So, changed the plan and went for a little run.  Pace was pretty pedestrian.  My legs are still sore from running stairs three days ago.

Planning on taking the boys to the movies later, baseball practice, then hopefully to the pool for my first swim of the month.

Your theatre doesn't have a bar in it, does it?

Unfortunately, no it doesn't.  The movie was really good.  My boys loved it.  I enjoyed it as much as them.

I plan on taking my sister to see it in the next week or two  Actually...today is my mom's birthday, maybe I can take her too.  It has been years and years since she saw a movie in the theatres.

Rhoda, have you checked out swimplan.com?  You enter in your time for a certain distance (I forget, it's either 100 or 500) then it spits out a workout for you to do.  You could do a different workout every day if you want!
