Normally I'm around the 10mm range for anything over 10 miles. I guess my legs felt really good because I didn't do anything on Saturday...it was a UHD for me...unexpected hangover day. I don't remember much of Friday night...just that I woke up on my friend's couch. Dude, we should be best friends. Haha. I dont remember most of my friday night... just that I woke up on my recliner in the basement. |

Extreme Veteran 386 Rio Rancho - where you can ride year round! | Subject: RE: Newbz'z summer mentor group is FULL!!!! I was looking at the AG race results and was shocked at two things: 1. just how darn fast my AG was in the run. Here I am busting out a 25:15 5k and I was 18/22! I couldn't believe most times were 22s, 23s and 24s. in the past, a few low times, most near 24 2. where I came in on the bike - 5/22 - I knew I could ride ok, but I've never ridden with a group to see where I stand (if that makes sense, just a comparison to other riders) - so it's a feel good thing I guess. And I know it's you against the clock and you don't control who comes out to compete or how they perform. it just made me laugh when I looked at this closer. but I'll stick with my plan - focus on the bike to cut a larger % of time and continue to improve my run/swim legs. I think it would be fair to say that you stuck to a good plan...and many others in your AG went out too fast on the run...and paid for it on the bike. I haven't done a reverse tri...but I imagine it's very different than a standard one. |

Expert 950 Ann Arbor | Subject: RE: Newbz'z summer mentor group is FULL!!!! I just got back from USAT Collegiate National Championship at 3AM this morning. I'm working on the official race report now, but here is the rundown. Record rainfall in Lubbock Texas this weekend, just beating out the rainfall of last year's championship. Insane race with insane conditions. Going to the emergency room in Illinois with another teammate because we were both severely dehydrated. I think this can stimulate a discussion about hydration theories and strategies. |

Or a link to a previous thread/website for some background? Thanks. |

Master 3486 Fort Wayne | Subject: RE: Newbz'z summer mentor group is FULL!!!! I found the official results for my 5k on Saturday. (They finally posted them.) Officially I got 6th place overall and 2nd AG. My official time was 21 flat, which is a 3 second improvement over my Garmin. I'll def take the additional 3 seconds off cause it makes so much difference. There were 160+ people competing overall so the field wasn't big but I'll enjoy my success because it's probably as close to the podium as I will get in my racing career. Here are the results if anyone cares to look. http://www.onturfsports.com/Runners/images/Discover_Roanoke_2010_5K_Overall_results.pdf Edited by DirkP 2010-04-19 6:58 PM |

Or a link to a previous thread/website for some background? Thanks. Simply put, the shorter cranks will decrease/open up the hip angle a bit, but at the cost of higher cadence/cardio strain and slightly less muscle fatigue. HR will be higher for the same speeds, cadence will go up (for me its up about 4-6 beats from the ones i had before for the same gearing). because of the shorter crank arms, your saddle goes up the amount from whatever length you came from before (as your pedals are now X closer to the bottom bracket). |

Alaska to Minnesota to D.C. to Atlanta to Houston to Florida. All in three days. Haha But on a more serious note for the rest of the group who would like to give me some advice on swimming. I am going to start swimming this week... physical therapist says it ok.. and I need a good volume training plan. I dont want to do any interval work or even worry about being fast. I just want to build the volume to swim in a HIM late this summer. I could care less about my swimming time I just want to swim it and not die. I am thinking I could just do slow technique swimming but I cant think of a good plan. I will probably only want to swim 3 days a week. Any ideas would be awesome. |

Weighed myself yesterday and today and though I only gained 1 pound, my body fat went up 10%!!!! I thought maybe it was due to dehydration causing my scale to act up but when I weighed myself today it was still 10%. OK - I confess I did consume enough crab cakes and beer for a small army - but 10%!!! Anybody else experience this before and how long did it take to get back to your pre-vacation body fat %? Oh, and if you could tell me that my scale is broken that would be great! Robin |

Normal/comfortable running times for me and my HR will jump into the high 160s. I too would like to know what is up. For some reason I think the answer will be - RUN MORE! I just started HR training this year. At first, I had trouble keeping my HR below 165 on easy runs (had to really slow down)...but as I began to run more (I took 3 weeks off after my december marathon) again, my HR started to drop. Also, I focused on breathing slowly. Nice slow inhales, and easy controled exhales...this brough my HR down too...I think. So part of it was improving my running fitness, and part of it was controlling my breathing. Since January, my avg HR for the same exact 5 mile treadmill run I do has dropped from about 155 to 139. So for now, I would focus more on RPE. If you aren't huring, or out of breath, don't worry too much about your HR. Just log it in your workouts and I'm sure you'll notice it will eventually drop even though your RPE remains the same. |

Oh, and if you could tell me that my scale is broken that would be great! Robin Body fat scales are totally inconsistant. Especially for people like me who are short and stocky. I normally weigh about 162 now. I think last week it gave me my body fat as 20.5% and a yesterday it was like 17.8% at the same weight. And my scale supposedly accounts for dehydration as it also gives you a hydration percentage. Either way...the scale is off. Last time I got caliper tested, I was closer to 14%. |
