Expert 1163 | Subject: RE: July non TdF challenge D001 - 2010-07-21 9:47 PM SLACKER ESCAPE ROUTE! Yes, this month, you've got an escape route from being a slacker. There are no 'limits' for your goals. Thunderstorms impacting your swim schedule? Get on the treadmill instead. If you're at 0% on one goal, just make it to 200% on another - and you'll still hit 100% at the end of the month. Why am I doing this? Who knows. Probably because I only want to do activities that allow me to park myself in front of the TV set and watch Versus 24/7. I wish I could call in "sick" tomorrow so I can watch the live coverage, but I have to be at work! I am SO upset! Nice! I might just use that escape route to replace some of my lifting session with yoga classes. When I came up with my goals, I accounted for tapering, but forgot to account for recovery! Duuuuh! |

Elite 3460 Slackerville, USA | Subject: RE: July non TdF challenge Missed my run last night. We went to visit a neighbor and I'm a talker. Didn't get home until 9:45 and then it was dinner, family time, then spouse time. Went to bed at 1:30. A little to late for a run. Haven't decided what to do today. Swim/Run, bike/run, nap/run? I have my lunch break and a two hour block of time tonight for exercise. We'll see how it goes. |

Veteran 243 Denver | Subject: RE: July non TdF challenge billsorg - 2010-07-22 7:06 AM Taking a day off today. Our neighbors called us around 8pm last night to join them on their deck for "one" margarita. So we went over for that "one" margarita. Three hours later, my wife and I stumbled home. Good times, but not so fun today! I want neighbors like yours. |

I have to run and swim on Thu and then brick Fri... Also put in a 3hr trainer ride on Wed night, but that only counts for TdF... Wow! 3hrs on a trainer! I've only ever done that once, and it was during a Superbowl bike trainer party. So it involved drinking beer while watching the superbowl w/friends. And I took a snack break at halftime for some brats and nachos. beer. football. those are the only things that could make a 3 hour trainer ride bearable. |

Expert 1246 West Grove, PA | Subject: RE: July non TdF challenge Hour and 15 minute drainer ride this morning... watched the 2001 IM World Championships on DVR. Simply amazing... Tim DeBoom winning the championship for the USA only weeks after 9/11. Literally brought a tear to my eye. I updated the spreadsheet (I know... miracle!). I'm right on track for the month. We're supposed to have a heat index of 110 tomorrow, so I don't anticipate leaving the house much. Swim planned for lunchtime today. Anyone have any exciting plans and/or races this weekend? |

Elite 3460 Slackerville, USA | Subject: RE: July non TdF challenge I was really excited about our plans for the weekend but now part of it is in question. We're heading to a family campout and I was planning on an ows and biking around the lake (52 miles). Then I cut my head when I smacked it on a corner and can't get it wet. I've never used a swim cap. Will it keep my head dry? I'm hoping to salvage the swim. It's still a go for the ride though. Anyone else have anything fun planned for the weekend? |

Yikes, that HOT! Maybe you should have more margaritas instead? For me- Tomorrow is a 12 mile run with my marathon group. We're going to brunch after, but I'm hoping to get a swim in as well. Maybe after brunch Sunday, I'm debating whether to go on a group ride w/my tri club, or just going for another yoga/swim day. I'm not sure how long I should be "recovering" so maybe I should go for the easy day (because if I do the group ride, I will be working HARD to keep up!). Plus, I need some more swims for my non-TdF goals! |

I hope your head's ok! For me, my cap doesn't keep my head dry, but I have a lot of hair and wear it in a ponytail under my cap... so that might be causing gaps that allows water to seep in. I'm assuming you don't have that problem, so maybe the cap will be snugger to your head and won't let water in? Sorry, I don't really know! Sounds like a fun weekend though! Maybe you could go for a run instead? I bet there are some nice trails near the campground! |

I wouldn't guarantee that a cap will keep it dry. If you have one that fits pretty tightly, it might, but..... Why are you going around smacking your head into corners, anyway? |

I'm tall enough that I have to duck for things that a lot of people don't have to worry about. Some things are high enough that they don't catch my eye but not high enough for me to walk under. I have learned to wear a hat when I run because its not uncommon for tree branches to be about 6' high and that's a couple of inches too short for me. My hat has saved me several times. I should have been wearing a hat when I was working in the garage yesterday. In fact I was until about ten minutes before I banged my head. I took it off while working on the car because I kept bumping the visor part against something when I would bend over. That should have been a clue for me to keep it on but I thought it was annoying so I took it off. Then I turned and walked into the corner of the crown molding on the top of the armoire that is in the garage. |

Expert 1246 West Grove, PA | Subject: RE: July non TdF challenge Not a good way to start the weekend, Paul! Have you ever tried the liquid bandage? I forget who makes it, but if your cut isn't too low on your forehead, if you spray some of that on and then put a swim cap on, I think you might be OK. I'm not a doctor, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night! |

I would try the liquid bandage stuff or getting some Tegaderm to cover the wound in combination with a swim camp. I think that would be the best for your head. |

How about we wait until you're feeling better and then we give you your tasings? How does that sound? With Dee, you don't even have to be on the slacker list to get tased. All you have to do is not be on your toes when you're around her. |
