Don't know if this has been posted already, but here is the bike course video from 06 for those of you that won't get a chance to ride or see it. Video does not really give the false flat/ hill by Mt. Horeb the credit it deserves |

I will start tapering bike and run 16 days out. last long workouts are in 3 weekends from now, but the week after that weekend will still be tough. 2 weeks before the race Saturday is a 100 km ride/10 km run and Sunday is a 20 km run.
I'm 546. Nice and low. I can volunteer to put together a spreadsheet for other BTers to track on race day if you want. I did it for florida in 2010. What does everyone think? When I did it before, we had name, bib number, # ironman and goal. Looks like my running mileage in July was lower than pretty much everyone elses. hopefully I will be able to get in my long runs in the next few weeks with no further mishaps and have solid august mileage on the run. Carr Valley cheese curds! If I am in town I would be happy (not really because that means I would have to clean my car) to drive a group of people around the course. It would be nice to see what it looks like at more than a snails pace. I should have a better idea of when I will be back in the next couple of weeks. |

Expert 1566 | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread This video has been my main source of getting a feel for the course for the past 9 months until last weekend when I actually got up there. You are right - it really doesn't give you an idea of the false flats or the big climbs but it did give me a good overall sense of what the course is like and I felt like I somewhat knew the course and turns. After watching it after I road the course it makes SO MUCH more sense now and will be great tool over the next few weeks. bigpaps - 2012-08-01 6:42 PM http://www.wisconsinbrickadventure.com/videos.html

CHEESE CURDS for the win. I picked some up at the Farmers Market the day before the race. They didn't last long and I had to buy more on the way out of town. Flavored kinds are amazing... dill... garlic... oh boy now I'm craving them |

Member 51 Oshkosh, WI | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread This is my first IM and it will also be my first Marathon. My longest run to date was this week at 15 miles. My question for you all, is how much water are you drinking while running? I seem to drink ALOT!! I wear a nutrition belt with 2 bottles and I was also carrying a hand held bottle and I stopped 3x to fill up at various places. Yes it was warm out but not crazy hot, and I always sweat like crazy. I haven't been in the mood for running latley, so these long runs are killing me. I seem to panic a little when I'm getting low on water, so maybe it's more of a mental thing I need to overcome.
So funny story of the week: On my long run this week, I ran out of water sooner than expected so I stopped at a small mechanic shop. I walked in and asked if I could fill up my water, and he says sure and leads me into the office. As I'm filling up the bottles and gulping and choking on water at the same time, he tries to make small talk. Auto guy- "So are you training for a Marathon?" Me-"Ironman actually" Auto guy-"Oh, is that a Triathlon? How far do you have to go for that?" Me- "2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and then a Marathon 26.2" Auto guy-"Wow, that's cool." Pause........."I can't believe you will be doing a Marathon!" I was thinking he didn't hear me when I told him the distances. I didn't even attempt to explain. Me- "Thanks for the water!!!"
How's everyones mood during these heavy weeks? Mines pretty crappy...and my pateince has gone out the window. Walinda

Walinda Eveyone is different for needs with water, for ex my coach doesn't drink water just sports drinks, whereas I am a heavy drinker. Maybe do a sweat test if you haven't already to find your body's needs. Secondly if you are running low on water maybe you can have someone sag your rides with you? What about running loops where you can get water regularly and not have to worry about running out.
My mood is borderline. Life has just not been that way it was planned to be this summer. I have had weddings the past 2 weekends, 2 today, and my sisters in 2 weeks so the distractions are definitely out there for me. Still loving the workouts despite now doing over distance work on the swim/bike legs. I have a 2.30 run to do Tuesday morning that should be a real indication if I can hold the IM pace that I am looking for. Closing in on the home stretch, good food/sleep are essential to get your body where you want it at the start line. |

New user 2 | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Hi Walinda, Are you having to make a lot of bathroom stops with all the water? If you aren't then maybe your body is sweating out that much and you need it. On my long runs my water intake is usually timed to when I take a Gu (so every 25-30 minutes). In my 2.5hr run yesterday I ate 4 Gu packs and 20 oz of water. On race day since it is sagged I'll take in more water at the rest stops I'm not eating Gu. On the motivation part-I took a class a while ago called Awesomeness of You, an ironman mental games class. A few cool takeaways were that your perception is your reality in your training and your races. When you find yourself having negative thoughts of being tired, unmotivated or panicked (as most people training for the ironman do!) redirect your thoughts to some positive thoughts. Things like what you are grateful for, notice nature around you, quieting your thoughts by listening to your breathing. Or just asking open ended questions like what if this is easier that I think, or what would it feel like to run smoothly and easily. You don't really answer the questions, you just relax your mind out of feeling negative and tense. For me, part of making the runs easier is just mentally breaking down the segments to when I can stop and have Gu/water. Good luck to you! Jenny |

Member 51 Oshkosh, WI | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Thanks for the responses Jenny and Ben. I know mentally I'm tired with Ironman training, on the other hand it's exciting that it's here. I have been training a year for this, and I was worried about this summer with the long, intense training and how it would affect me physically and emotionally as well as my personal life, work, kids ect. But it's here, I'm doing it right now! It's kind of crazy if I really think about it. I like the idea of self motivating. I forget to sometimes. I'm pretty good at talking myself out of things. I just have to do that final push to get me through the next 35 days!!! Does anyone know when you can start buying the banquet tickets for family members? Thanks Walinda
