Weekly goals: Start OLY plan and do each workout s/b/r 2x Limit poor food and beverage choices after 6PM. Lose 3 pounds. Just got back from 3 mile run. everything's all healed up, and I'm ready to do this. I had to post this here, so that I would be held accountable, and do it. In the last 3 seasons, this has been an excellent motivator for me. BDAS is where it's at. When a goal is in sight - you are a force to be reckoned with. Good luck with your mission and let me know how I can support you. |

I called hospital to get put on cancellation list. she told me "hmm, your are scheduled for a double appt. so it is unlikely you will get called" hour and a half later I get called! going in tomorrow night for 9:30pm!! Expert 4269 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open I went to my doc today (he's a triathlete btw - which is awesome!), and he told me that I I have a sprained intercostal muscle in my back. So I didn't break anything, which is good. But it could take weeks to heal which is bad. He said that running wouldn't hurt it worse - but that it would exaccerbate it and take it longer to heal. With a 5K coming up - I'm not sure what I should do. If I run this weekend, it might take me longer to get back to exercising regularly and affect my race at the end of the month, which is an important race for me. On the other side of the coin is failing on my yearly goal to improve my time in all my events.... I guess it will be a game time decision but I think I will play it safe. I'm not at my best when I'm not working out - so I will probably play it safe. |

Extreme Veteran 968 Cape Coral, FL | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open Well on Sundays run I took the advise of my LRS and did the whole thing mainly mid/fore foot striking not heel. It felt so smooth just like running xc when I was young. It took 30-45 seconds off my moving pace. I'm changing all of this because I got some new kicks I haven't had a chance to go out on a run with them (used the old ones for Sundays run). All I have done is run at the stores treadmill for a few while getting my gait analysis done . Brooks PureCadence 2 are the bad boys and they are sweet. Running with a minimalist type shoe with a 3mm drop felt so good and natural. I tell ya it took me back to my youth and how I used to run. Run day is Wed so look for my note on how they are on the road. ETA: I can't spell so I had to fix it all. Edited by Burd 2013-06-10 3:35 PM |

I've hurt lower abdominal muscles twice. First one took 7 months to heal and the other about 4. Too stubborn for my own good. Take it easy and don't push it. Listen to your body and not your desires. You'll convince yourself you're really okay. Hope you heal quick! |

I do mix it up with my burlier Brooks shoes though- I think when you're transiting it's good to mix old and new for a while. Someone here gave me that great advice a few mentoring boards ago! |

I hope you heal up quick! Did he give you any muscle relaxants? There are some good ones that over the counter in Canada but require a prescription here- from what all my friends say- I got them for my horse... |

Extreme Veteran 968 Cape Coral, FL | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open I just received great news from my coach. I am back at full speed doing everything my plan calls for. That's 3 swims, 3 runs, and 3 or 4 bikes (depending on the week). Now I just need to check my ego at the door and do it smart this time and save the HTFU for the races. All in due time just take it slow and easy. That on top of the fact that I spent the last 3 hours with my son out back on our dock fishing. Life is good BDASers....life is good. David to answer your question about the time off...after tonight I would spend it all with my kid and spend the time appreciating life in everything I do. |

New user 180 Auburn, AL | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open So my taper week did not get off to the best start... I was out riding yesterday and at Mile 5 I was waiting to turn at an intersection and unclipped the wrong foot. Toppled over on my left. Got a nice bit of road rash on my left leg/knee and jammed my left elbow. I also lost the cadence magnet off my crank, hopefully the LBS has one of those. Not to worried about the leg as it is not too bad and should be well on its way to healed by my race on Sunday. My elbow on the other hand has me a little worried. Hopefully resting it for most of the week will help out. |

I was trying to bail on my lunch time bike but forced myself to do it. Had a great ride. I have been doing the same one at lunch...record time today. just over 10 miles in aroun 29 minutes! Also moved to the KOM on Strava for a section! (of course there are only 3 people who have done the segment but ya gotta take the victories where you can) Also I am not buying anymore beer in June with the exception of my birthday. Gotta lose a few pounds. Off to MRI tonite at 9:30pm-10:30pm assuming they are on time...not likely. Will probably get home at midnight so a valid no run excuse tomorrow morning!(5:30am run) |

I've often contemplated setting a segment around the grocery store parking lot in Boulder just to see how long it would take for someone else to do it and steal my KOM. Good Luck tonight! Yesterday I got an unplanned bike sprint in when my husband called me 15 minutes before daycare closed to tell me he was running late and wouldn't make it. I was about 3 miles from home on my bike and pushed hard. I think I was a minute late to pick up- but they let it slide. $5/ minute late fee is a good incentive to sprint! Veteran 706 Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open Hey guys. Life's finally getting settled. Went with some family to Wisconsin Dells this weekend, and rode the Rev3 Half Course. Here's the Garmin log: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/326573469. The high lights: 64 miles, 4,354 feet of climbing, 2,336 calories, top speed of 38.5mph. I have never been more tired or beat in my life. That ride was the single hardest thing I have ever done. A couple of the hills defeated me, and the echo of cleats on pavement as I walked up them. I was in tears at the end of it. In my defense, Strava ranks the ride as having three Category 4 climbs and one Category 3 climb. Also, one wrong turn added about 9 miles to the ride. The descents are borderline insane. When I hit 38.5mph, I was riding the brakes, into a blind turn. At that point, the only thought in my head was "Into your hands I commit my spirit," because if there was an on-coming car that drifted out of its lane, that would have been it for me. Another note: running 54/36 chainrings and an 11-28 cassette was probably not a good choice for that kind of climb. It may be time to swap to a 11-34 to crawl up those hills. Another lesson learned: in rural Wisconsin, there are no conveince stores, so 48oz of fluids was probably not enough either. Overall, I am satisfied with the ride; it banished the notion of doing a half distance this year, but I still finished it (even if was an 11 on the effort scale, and probably beyond my safe limits). Even Ironman Wisconsin is only 2,900 feet of climbing in 112 miles. Edit: set personal records for distance (previous best: 44 miles) and climbing (previous best: 1,400 feet) by huge numbers.
